Wilhelm Screamer, did you catch the Wilhelm Scream in Indy 4, in the library scene?

Today's comic is something a little different. As I was wrapping up yesterday's photo shoot, an idea for a whole long storyline and new character hit me within seconds. Bam! There it was. It's not something I want to really explore until I wrap up other plot threads, but I was compelled to at least create a "Preview," which is the name of today's comic. There's more Gemini twins and comedy-based stuff coming up this week and next as promised, but today's comic is more like a Twilight Zone than Monty Python. :-) Preview: http://www.drunkduck.com/Lego_Space/index.php?p=411888

Zero, I think you'll be amused by the next couple weeks of comics. I just got done with a really long writing and photo session and I was laughing as I took the pictures. Granted, who knows how others will see it?

That is nifty, although I would like to see you do the fridge scene from Indy !V. Lego prairie dog?

I wasn't sure how to handle this arc. The story about the search for the 918 is something I have planned out pretty well, and I almost decided to just tell it on one unbroken narrative over the next couple of months, because I wasn't sure how to break it up. But I didn't want to ignore all the other storylines and characters during that time, do I decided to tell the 918 story in chunks. I'm planning to do two more comics after today about the beginning of the twins' mission, though. I think they'll get a little more back to the humor. I know the idea about twins who have a mental connection has been done before. I thought I was being somewhat original in that one twin is more like Freud's Ego and Id (Vance), and the other more like the Superego (Lance)- all parts of the same mind that diverge briefly and then compromise into one. Maybe it has been done before and I just haven't seen it, or maybe I just need to explore that more. The twin in the second-to-last panel (Vance) was positioned that way on purpose, like he's jumping up in excitement.

Great, it's cryptic. It seems to be working now, though. I'm thinking the site might be having temporary difficulties around this time of night because that's when a lot of comics automatically update. I might get my own site one of these days, but that day is not today.

New comic! New Assignment (Part 3): http://drunkduck.com/Lego_Space/index.php?p=411321

No, I have different plans. Maybe I'll clear up the confusion in dialog in the next comic. Wouldn't be the first time I did that, lol. I'm not saying Earth won't be attacked, just not yet. ;) I thought it would be cool if Schwartz had the fastest ship, even if it was akin to an old hot rod. I noticed that Lego made only like three vehicles that had the solar panel design, so I thought it would be neat to interpret that as it being a design scheme and technology that never fully got off the ground, yet Schwartz prefers the older ship that happens to have a speed advantage. Of course, how does he use it? To get to the store as fast as possible to buy ice cream!

That is so awesome. I totally want this set and hate that Lego pooh-poohed Temple of Doom sets.
-
I think the comic's host was down earlier. It seems to be working fine now.
-
I apologized if I caused any confusion. I wasn't intending to show Earth actually being invaded in the last panel; rather, that was an illustration of what President Weiss imagined might happen if Schwartz was part of Majestic Blue, starting a panic.

Okay, finally, here's the new comic! New Assignment (Part 2): http://www.drunkduck.com/Lego_Space/?p=410698

Thanks, and sorry for the delay. I sat down last night with my girlfriend to watch this show called Monster Quest about mutant dogs on the History Channel (which is for some reason hung up on monsters and UFOs at the moment) and was gonna do a comic afterwards. Next thing I knew, it was this morning, and I was in bed without any memory of getting there. And I hadn't even been drinking! And darn it, I missed the end of the mutant dogs show!

I'm just coming off an extremely busy half of my work week, but I think I'll have some time tonight to finish and post this week's second comic.

I sometimes do a comic that's not as much about humor as it is plot. I was mildly amused by the twins' bickering and intended their comment at the end to be sarcastic, but yeah, it wasn't hilarious by any stretch.

Yes! The Peacemaker can finally be viewed on Lego.com. I was getting worried, there. The image on the site looks pixelated, though. But you can d/l the instructions: http://shop.lego.com/Product/Factory/Produ...2d-5fc02b1c2abf

Scouse, UFO and the 918 will all be seen again in upcoming weeks, although not all of them necessarily in the current story. Batbrick, thanks for commenting on the lighting. It was a combination of intent and discovery. I wanted to give the comic an X-Files-ish feel with the lighting, and even was gonna convert it to black and white because it was a flashback and would have elements of 1950s government UFO cover-up. But I ended up liking how it looked in color and decided to leave it. I was shooting at night and things were way too dark, so I used an unshaded lamp to light the scene. The shadows it cast were perfect for the mood I wanted. It was hot, though, and I'm not sure I want it to do it too often since I don't want the bright light to yellow my Legos. I have to try and shoot during the day.

Okay, new story starts today! New Assignment (Part 1): http://drunkduck.com/Lego_Space/index.php?p=407328

That gave me a huge laugh. :-D I guess Lego just figured, "What the hell, we've got these extra bananas and chicken legs..."

I'm planning to bring back the other Blacktron guys pretty soon. The next few comics revisit another storyline I've needed to get back to.
-
Thanks Clonecommando. I get a lot of joy out of making these comics and discussing them with all of you, so I'll keep going as long as I can. Batbrick, we should be careful about spoilers, so I'll drop you a PM. :)

Sorry you didn't like the fourth film, Batbrick. I had mixed feelings about it. It was a little sloppy and seemed to be lacking some of the fun of the other films; it just wasn't as cohesive. The ending was somewhat confusing and was somehow a bit anti-climatic. The biggest problem I saw, though, was that Indy wasn't as take-charge as he should have been. It felt too much like he was just along for the ride at times. He got lost sometimes in what was an ensemble piece. All that said, I still found a lot to like in this film and want to see it again. I thought it was decent enough, but was surely the weakest of the four films. I know that Lucas, Ford and Spielberg have said Indy 5 is a possibility, and I hope it happens so that they have one more chance to make a great film. But I'm worried by how Lucas said his idea was to star Mutt and have Indy come along for the ride like Indy Sr. in Last Crusade. I think that happened too much in Indy 4 as it was. Indiana Jones should be the star of the Indiana Jones movies.

Crap! I realized after I posted the comic that I left out two panels! I've fixed it and reposted it here: http://www.drunkduck.com/Lego_Space/?p=407553

That's nifty, but I think you missed an opportunity to make it Blacktron, like they stole the ship and repainted it. EDIT: After looking at your page, I see that you're using the design in different themes, as well as coloring it to match the suit of the astronaut piloting it. Awesome! You must really like the 918. :) I think my favorite is the red and white one. Found your Bricklink page, too: http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=hewman
