  1. Thanks a lot! Here's a new one... DACTA (Part 4): http://www.drunkduck.com/Lego_Space/index.php?p=386263
  2. Oh man, some guy selling Star Justice sets on eBay just got hosed. I imagine he bought the three sets at a Lego store and paid the full $99 price, but the sets he was selling on eBay went for $56, $60 and $86. I would have thought, probably like he did, that he would have made more than $99 because the set aren't widely available yet and people are anxious to get them. Maybe this just shows that those of us who want new Lego Space that badly are a small bunch and willing to wait. Even so, I regret not bidding, since I could have gotten a good deal, even with the $13 shipping. Of course, maybe this is a sign that the sets are over-priced at $99...
  3. Cool, thanks Whitefang! New readers are good. :)
  4. Whew, three comics in three days! It'll probably be a few days until the next comic is up. Gotta work, sleep and eat sometime. ;-) If you're a UFO buff (and I mean the phenomenon, not the Lego theme), this too might all seem familiar... Look up Kenneth Arnold. And yay for cheesy Photoshop effects! http://drunkduck.com/Lego_Space/index.php?p=386262 Y'know, sometimes I wonder if any actual people from The Lego Group are reading the comic, and what they think, and (hopefully) if they enjoy it (and don't wanna send the sharks after me). I've seen at least one of the Ambassadors says that TLG does read these sites. That's why I added the disclaimer saying this is all in good fun.
  5. Thanks again, CP. Glad you're keeping up. :) I hope I'm not leading you astray at all, Batbrick. Lego, I'm sure purposely, left things mostly open to interpretation. I use my view of the story behind the Lego Space factions in the comic, as well as ideas I've read elsewhere. I'll admit that I have an obscene Lego collection, which is abut 95% Space and takes up a whole plastic cabinet. I have at least one set from every Space theme. I have the most sets from Classic (although only a couple from the first 4 or 5 years of it), UFO and Insectoids. My collection is sparse when it comes to M:Tron, Ice Planet, RoboForce, Spyrius, Mission to Mars and Unitron. I have a decent representation of sets from the other subthemes. If you wanna see a complete list of my excess, I have my collection cataloged on Brickset, which you can view here: http://brickset.com/lists/collection.aspx?User=KDog
  6. Thanks for the glowing review, Batbrick! I truly appreciate those of you who leave comments here. I was starting to wonder if you're the only people reading the comic, but I checked the pageviews for the comic and saw it gets between about 200-300 a day, sometimes more. So, I know that there must be a lot of readers, they're just doing so quietly. :) When you consider my last comic got about 10 views a day, and I had to fight hard even for those, I'm jazzed about having more people read my work. Of course, it being something everyone knows like Lego probably helps! The current storyline about the newscast will last a couple weeks, because I want it to establish the continuity and connection between the characters and plots. What's a challenge is to keep up the humor and not left it fall by the wayside for serious plot.
  7. If you're a flying saucer buff, this might all seem familiar... DACTA (Part 2): http://www.drunkduck.com/Lego_Space/index.php?p=386261
  8. It's more of an extension of DACTA being an educational line. And me needing a news broadcast in the story. And an excuse to use the DACTA Futuron guys I put together. :)
  9. I try to have some continuity, lol.
  10. New comic: DACTA (Part 1) http://www.drunkduck.com/Lego_Space/?p=385851 This goes waaaaaaaaaaaay back to the mysterious third comic strip in this series. See, I told you I didn't forget about it. DACTA (typically seen in lowercase) is Lego's (sometimes marginally) educational line of toys that I think is only available through schools. There is a very rare Lego Space DACTA set, which features an awesome-looking base, a set of vehicles in different scales (some fit minifigs, some are too small), and a bunch of mismatch-colored Futuron astronauts, half of which seem to be dressed up for Christmas festivities. While I'm not lucky or rich enough to own the bizarre DACTA Futuron set, I was able to recreate two of the astronauts for use in this comic.
  11. Check out the third comic I did from a couple of months ago. They've been lurking. :) First Encounter http://www.drunkduck.com/Lego_Space/index.php?p=360468
  12. Thanks, Batbrick. I figured today's comic might surprise folks a bit.
  13. See what happens after one M:Tron guy sobers up... M:Tron Bar Brawl Mania XVI (Part 3) http://www.drunkduck.com/Lego_Space/?p=384132
  14. I thought M:Tron being the last you'd expect would make it funnier. But there is official photo evidence that M:Tron can be a rough and rowdy bunch. Look at this image: . LOL, they're surrounding two terrified Blacktron guys and brandishing wrenches, as the Space Police arrive just in the nick of time to break it up. And when I saw that black motorcycle, which I forgot I had, in my parts bin, I knew Schwartz had to have it. And that it needed rocket boosters.
  15. It seems like awhile since the last update, but I still did three comics this week. It's just that the first two were up on Sunday and Monday, and this is up on Saturday. Today's comic was longer than usual and took awhile to do! M:Tron Bar Brawl Mania XVI (Part 2) http://www.drunkduck.com/Lego_Space/?p=382713
  16. That does look awesome in its own right, but I miss the tailfin.
  17. Yup, that's me! Nice find! Looking at those pix is almost like I'm building the sets myself. Ahh, vicariously....
  18. I want that Space Skulls review and I want it now.

    Futuron Cantina

That's true, I could take some initiative and expand it. I went with the exact configuration of the Star Wars Cantina, since I like how it folds up nicely.
  20. The whole back wall is Pick-a-Brick, with round containers full of bricks set into the wall. I'm not sure how many containers were repeats or not, but it looked like a good selection. What's funny is that a couple rows of containers are higher than I, and certainly any child, could reach. I'm not sure if every brick in LDD was at the store. The problem with Pick-a-Brick for me is that I'm not sure what I'll need unless I can sit there and start building, which I don't think you're supposed to do in the store. :) I was entranced by the 1x1 translucent blue bricks. I noticed an abundance of orange pieces, too. BTW, for what it's worth, the store gets most of their new stock in on Mondays. And while the smaller Lego sets on display get shipped to the store already built, the employees get to enjoy (and be frustrated by) building the larger sets, like the ginormous Millenium Falcon and four-foot tall Eiffel Tower they have.
  21. Admiral, do you think Lego will ever allow you to show your original version of Space Justice, before they changed it?
  22. Cool. I stopped at my local Lego store and there was no sign of either of the space sets. New Jersey usually gets stuff later than California and even Ohio, though. The clerk I talked with didn't know what I was asking for at first, then remembered seeing the picture of "the thing with all the tentacles" in the Lego magazine they had. I asked if he knew when they would be out, but he just gave me the April 16 date in the magazine. Obviously, though, stores seem to be getting them in early. I'll probably check back next week. The Lego store was very cool, though. First time I've been in one. They had just about every current set you could want, including sets (mainly Castle) I have yet to see in other stores, and plenty of Lego items you wouldn't find in other retail stores. It was neat seeing the Factory items, and there was a display case with the new Main Street in it. It's cool, but smaller than I imagined. It's got to be neat working at a Lego store and getting to build the displays. I was a little overwhelmed by seeing all that Lego in one place. And I loved all the MOCs they had in display cases throughout the store. I would definitely recommend a visit to the store even if you wait until the two new space sets are out without a doubt. It's better than paying shipping, unless you burn that much in gas to get there. :) I finally got to buy my long-desired Lego ice cube tray, so I left partially satisfied. Would have felt much better if I left with some Space Skulls or Star Justice and was building them right now. :) The fact that other stores have the sets makes me wonder if they were just sitting in the stockroom. Ah, well. Unlike other toys, where you can blink and miss the ones you want, Lego sets are thankfully pretty easy to find in abundance.
  23. How do you suggest printing these out so that you can place them on a minifig? Do you use a specific kind of sticker paper?
  24. I guess this isn't a MOC as much from an originality standpoint as it is a novelty. I needed a bar to use in my Lego Space comic, and I try my best to use actual Lego sets in the comic over MOCs, just because most Lego fans would be familiar with them, and I want to create a story around the official Lego sets. This is a little difficult when I need a structure that doesn't normally exist in Lego Space. The first set I made like this was a recreation of an actual house set from Town, only set upon the moon, although that hasn't appeared in the comic yet. The second set I did like that was the bar. I liked the little cantina from the Star Wars set, but I wasn't about to pay $150 on eBay for that set. So, I realized I could recreate the fairly simple cantina using different-colored bricks. And to my delight, I realized I could do it in Futuron colors, which was perfect for my comic. I recreated the Cantina exactly, only with white, black and translucent blue pieces. You can see the cantina in my latest comic strip at http://www.drunkduck.com/Lego_Space/index.php?p=380592 I am, however, going to make some changes to the set. I only discovered after I shot the pictures that the large, curved windows of the bar were finally available in translucent blue, thanks to a recent Spongebob set. I'm not plunking down a ton of money for that Spongebob set, but I did find a couple of the windows on Bricklink for like a buck fifty each. The current windows are trans-black, which looks good but isn't 100% faithful to Futuron. I also was under the impression that Futuron utlized some gray parts, which actually seems not to be the case now that I've looked more into it. I used some gray parts for the table in the cantina and the faucet at the bar, which again does look fine, but I'm going to try and change those out with black parts. So, the cantina will get a slight redeco before its next appearance in the comic strip (well, next storyline; wanna remain consistent in this one).
  25. Thanks, because I think this is my favorite one so far. And I think it gets better in the next comic. :) And those first two M:Tron guys don't last long against the Roboforce guy, lol.
