  1. Taking advantage of the monk's brief absence, Erik grabs a mug from the table where the well-hatted gnome had been sitting earlier, and finishes it off. He then takes a seat on his chair (WP:4) and begins to go through his pockets. "S'pose I should sell this to someone who can actually sing it." he mutters to himself, finding the inspirational piece of music that had been written by Borris the bard.Looking up from his reading, his gaze falls upon the the female elven minstrel he had somehow not noticed earlier, and he stands up and walks over, the song-sheet in his hand.
  2. Using the bone suit example again, I think "+1 max health for every other piece of Bone Suit worn" would be on every piece of bone suit armour. I suppose technically that might mean if you were wearing three pieces of bone suit armour, you would get +6 max health, (Hat: +2 max health for also having shirt and pants, shirt: +2 max health for also having hat and pants, pants: +2 max health for also having hat and shirt) but that: A) could easily be fixed by adding "(does not stack with set bonuses from other items of the same set)", and B) could be a pretty neat thing to have anyway, especially considering it's only health, not SP, and it requires at least level 20 and takes up 3 artifact slots to get a total bonus of +5 SP, +12 HP, which, compared to... *cough* Yeti fur coat *cough* Lucky Die *cough* ...other artifacts available, isn't that bad. You'd get a +49 bonus at level 50 with all your artifact slots, weapon slot, and shield slot taken up by this stuff, though, I think.
  3. Would a complete set be an artifact in each slot? Because that would restrict it to level 50+. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but most characters will probably have pretty optimised gear by then anyway.
  4. Ah, I see. Well, I'm likely going to change Erik to Battle Mage anyway, to take advantage of the extra opportunities to petrify/doom/hex opponents with counter and AOE shield, and I was going to just not use spellcasting very often. So I'm fully in favour of (and fully biased towards) this idea.
  5. "Thanks- I'll take you up on that next time I'm visiting the marketplace. I remember Sofia was involved with the Crimson Crown, but I never found out what it was they wanted. Are they just a bunch of crazies?""I see you've grown a tail." Erik says to Mizuki.
  6. Well Martial Hit is basically casting a spell that doesn't ignore row, and Mystic Knights and Battle Mages already have spell-casting, so I don't think it would get much use. Unless you replace the spell-casting.And Mystic Knight can already imbue the gem into his weapon on a shield roll.
  7. "Pirates, huh? Sounds fun. Yeah, a little gnome with a big spanner? What's he been up to?"
  8. Erik turns around, placing his bottle of booze on a seat at a nearby table - hopefully out of sight of the monk."Since the mess at the Academy? I took a vacation and visited some of Uland. I mean, besides Eubric. I've seen plenty of the city on quests, and I went up to Ve'er once too, but there's still plenty I haven't seen. I've been considering training as a Battle-Mage or maybe a Raider, too. Healing's well and good, but I wouldn't mind being able to slay demons and monsters a bit more effectively."
  9. Aww, no Doctor who. Makes sense though. Besides, he was the wrong class - Should have been a mage or another rogue. I'm also looking forward to seeing what your next character is.
  10. Erik looks up as a crazy mage appears in the hall - Either that or a drunken hallucination. He gets up to converse with whatever it is for a while, but it disappears, or it wasn't there to begin with. He hears Monk Pretzel calling to him. EDIT: Retconned
  11. For Kiray, I would suggest a better shield - You can sell off the scutum shield for 15 gold and get an SP:5 one from Anwyl for another 35 gold, which is a very good price for +2 SP. Or you could see what you can buy off other heroes - There's always the risk that you'll find something better on you next quest, but that goes for most things you can spend your money on. I'd also suggest you look for heroes with stuff to buy and imbue into that Fishy Scale Mail, especially if you're planning to stay a class that can use it for a while. You are very unlikely to find better armour than that. Immunities are somewhat less useful at lower levels, though, I think, compared to the cheaper cost of equipment upgrades. Gems are usually 70-100 gold, plus 50 gold to imbue in armour/weapons, and you can move the gem from your flameproof armour to the FSM for 100 gold, so I'd suggest that even if you can't find any heroes selling gems. It really depends what role you want your character to play in a fight, though - for a Knight, you can go the super-tank role and focus on soaking up damage, or you can build on your attack and just use the extra defence of your shield to knock-out heavy hitting enemies with less risk than the lower-health DPS's. Ranger is really a jack--of-all-trades, so it's harder to make suggestions. Ranger's Quiver is a very good price for +1 WP, but you might want to hold off if you plan to go Hunter and get the Hunter's Quiver then - or you might want to take advantage of the back row and build defence. "Tools are often a reasonable investment, too." says the guy whose character has no tools. That's certainly a good point, but I'd caution you that gold-stealing enemies are possibly slightly more common than awesome in-quest shops.
  12. I disagree; SP was subtracted from damage before it was divided, so the advantage given by SP was much less significant than it normally is in PVE. Example: Despite her 16 SP, Nerwen took only 2 less damage than everyone else. (74-16=58, 58/7=9(Well 8.3, apparently it was rounded up)). SP=Advantage? Yes. SP=Far too much of an advantage? I don't think so, but less of an advantage than usual, at any rate. SP=More advantage than under the HP*10 system? Well, the Nerwen:Plebeian damage ratio is not significantly different: 58:74 means Nerwen takes only 0.784 of the plebeians' damage, while 9:11 means Nerwen takes 0.82. So in this example Nerwen's SP actually gave less of an advantage than it would have using the *10 system. I imagine this would vary depending on the numbers involved, though. Ineffectual weaker heroes? Well yes, they're more ineffectual because they're weaker. A level 16 basic-class is unlikely to be as effective as a level 46.8 expert-class. Again, though, I don't understand how the *10 system is better. It's simply a different multiplier. In fact, in the #102 example, Matthias would have been even more ineffective. With the /7 system, everyones damage was significantly reduced, but the Peashooter's burning damage, applied once and unremedied, could have K/O'ed Chauncey in 103 rounds. With the *10 system, everyone would have been doing standard damage, and the Peashooter's burning in the same circumstances would have taken 1030 rounds to K/O Chauncey. EDIT: Apostrophe in "plebeians' ".
  13. Chauncey Free Hits Aventine rather than Nerwen because he doesn't want to hit innocent-ish heroes? Ah, sorry, Aventine party. I thought that would be mostly dissipated by Nerwen's shield. In case you forgot about it, I better remind you of Necromancer's job trait "Undead Sacrifice - The Necromancer can destroy one of their undead allies in or out of battle to restore health to themselves or one of the party members equal to the undead's level."
  14. #105 Doesn't Frozen Saber stun on hits? So the special damage would be negated by the stun from the critical hit just before it? #102: Very fun read roleplay-wise, and I'm not running all the calculations, but I think the PVP mechanics give a bit of an edge to heroes with damage over time weapons and healing, as I don't think those are affected by the division-by-7? Possibly I missed something and they actually are divided by 7, but maybe something to consider for an Arena re-work. Also did Chauncey get a free hit for being hastened?
  15. He's also on a Mafia... But I think he's waiting for input from Lordofthenoobs and Legospy to run the round in #106 anyway.
  16. Ah yes, because the Dauntlet Index WP versus Humanoids is always greater than half the WP of Zoot's Rebel versus Humanoids, regardless of WP multiplier, so it always deals greater than half the damage, before you consider it's 2x elemental multiplier, which will bring it up to greater than the damage of Zoot's Rebel. It took me a concerning amount of time to get my head around that. On that note, it may well be worth adding a sapphire to the Spider's Leg.
  17. Erik hands over the Rubber Gloves and accepts the gold. "Good doing business with you, Mr Guts."
  18. "200 gold?"
  19. Erik sits at a nearby table after his deal with Mr Regulus, and writes a note to pin on the questboard: For sale: Rubber Gloves (For Mixture, the die is rolled three times instead of twice, and the highest two results determine the created item; suitable to alchemists; handwear).
  20. Erik enters the hall just in time to see someone pin an advertisement for heavy armour to the quest board. He makes his way to stand next to the man's table, and places 115 gold next to him. "I'd be interested in that armour, Mr Regulus?"
  21. Make a character, and hang around the hall chatting to people, and that'll go further towards giving you a feel for whether you like the character than just lurking in the subforum, and if you don't like him/her, scrap him/her and make a new character. Playing with a character you don't like will also give you ideas about what traits you DO want in your character. Even go on a quest - if you spend a month on a quest, get to level 5, and then scrap that character and start over at level 1, statistically speaking you're at the same place as if you didn't make a character and spent a month just lurking.
  22. Now we know why powerful footwear items are less common. "And to En Sabah Nur, for lending me the Scroll of Necro-boot-head-ification..." "What?! There's a scroll Arthur didn't have?!" "...Two +5 magic boots to the head!" *THWUD* *THWUD* "Yay, they fit me!"
  23. If you're a healer, which I imagine makes up slightly less than half of all ether-users, +1 ether can be used to heal potentially as much as (maximum health - 1). +1 ether can also be used for an extra scroll cast to nullify a powerful enemies' free hits for 3 rounds.
  24. Moved from Rules and Discussion: To reinforce what JimBee said, when I started out, after my first quest I dumped all my money into weapon upgrades for a WP: 5 Spear. Got it up to WP: 9, I think. Then I went on my next quest, and pretty much the first loot I got was something like a WP: 10 lightning sword. Now, besides when I'm healing, that sword is one of my weakest weapons. So it's all well and good keeping a weapon or two to roleplay, but sooner or later you're likely to pick up a "Chainsaw hand of Doom: WP:20, Darkness-elemental, causes *bleeding 100*", or a "Boomstick: WP:30, Dual-strike, Fire-elemental, Handcannon" or whatever, and maybe you'll keep your "Deck of Cards: WP 5" as a back-up and for roleplaying, but you won't really use them much anymore. That's pretty much what happened with Tesni's "Cryfder", I think - she still has it, but it almost never gets used.
  25. "Skrall, can you pick this lock?" "Sure." *Crash!* "Yeah okay, that works." "Hey, mr ogre! I can see you there, hiding behind those barrels!" "Can you see my crossbow?" "I can't see anything!"
