  1. You don't fool me! These are actually straight jackets and the arms are restrained behind their backs!
  2. INCREDIBLE! Where are their arms?
  3. Another Gift With Purchase which may interest LEGO Pirate fans, 40595 Tribute to Galileo Galilei. The 306 piece display set depicts the study of historic astronomer Galileo and features brick-built versions of his inventions and equipment, rather beautiful depictions of Age of Sail technology. The set will be released under the LEGO® Ideas brand and valued at around US$25 / AU$39. More photos and details available here.
  4. Without conducting a survey we cannot be certain of the video game interests of current forum members. Regardless, videos games are not included in the current support package arrangement with The LEGO Group.
  5. Back in 2011 The LEGO Group gave us a copy of LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean... Absolutely nobody wanted it so we couldn't even give it away, let alone offer it as a contest prize.
  6. If our prizes are provided by The LEGO Group's support package allocation to Eurobricks, then no. The other options is to provide our own prizes, but generating funds is no longer as easy as it once was.
  7. Our greatest limitation is the total number of prizes we can allocate - under the current support package from the LEGO Group we're able to send prizes 5 different addresses. So it becomes a question of; how do we make those prize winners go as far as possible? Therefore, the more niche we define our categories, the smaller the entrant base. I assume there are significantly fewer TFOLs than AFOLs who are able to enter building contests, primarily because TFOL have lower earnings (or no earnings) and therefore cannot afford as many bricks. But I'm happy to be corrected on that matter, so if there are any studies or data to provide an insight into the number of TFOLs versus AFOLs, I'd be interested in reviewing them.
  8. Creative Critic Leaderboard - UPDATE 16 September The long overdue update is now available in preparation for the final report. This update was intended for 16 September but not finalised until late October due to time constraints. A comprehensive manifesto outlining reasons for the delay can be found beneath "The Formalities of The Return Classic Pirates Contest" heading in this topic. Creative Critic Assessment TimGoodwin Provided some brief but useful feedback within the first week of the contest but has ceased participation. Interactive Bricks Provided decent feedback on some of the earlier entries but participation ceased entirely after July 20. hikouki Participated for a single day and contributed short posts asking questions. JeffBuilds Only participated for 3 days with very brief feedback. Seaber Some good, yet brief feedback in early July. Participation stalled after a few days. _R_R_ Started the contest providing good feedback but became significantly less active after posting own entries and did not contribute to the same level as the top performing critics. NOD Leaves decent feedback but nowhere near as active as some of the other Creative Critics. Participation spiked around August 8-11 but died off thereafter. Dreamweb Imparted some useful building advice during the earlier part of the contest but participation waned after a few weeks and was mainly focused on replying to feedback on his own entries. thewatchman While useful, feedback was provided as lists or in brief posts rather that in a format that engaged conversation with other forum members. Though it must be noted participation was maintained until the close of voting. durazno33 Provided helpful feedback during the early phase of contest but entered hiatus around July 10. Reemerged towards the end of August with consistent feedback. Initially not as comprehensive as other high performing critics, but after a couple of days his feedback blossomed in depth and articulation. Also, produced insightful video reviews for the entries. Yoggington Provided some helpful building advice with visual examples during the first month of the contest. While participation stalled during the middle of the contest, Yogginton returned with strong performance towards the end of August. Also shared helpful concluding rationales with insight behind into voting decisions and contributed an initial vote tally which acted as the basis from the spreadsheet used to count the final votes. Rogue Redcoat Great participation with feedback that stimulates discussion, although follow up communication is not as comprehensive as some of the other critics. Despite a slow period during mid August returned as a tour de force and participated until the end of September. Also, revised the entries that were neglected from first few weeks of contest. Has also contributed ideas to administrative topics and demonstrated proofreading skills. MstrOfPppts Has since provided coverage of earlier entries resulting in thorough feedback for entries submitted throughout the entire contest. Subsequent feedback is often very detailed. Has also excelled at providing useful suggestions in contest administrative topics. iragm Maintained a high level of participation and provided comprehensive feedback throughout the entire contest. Posts providing subsequent feedback are quite often more detailed than the initial post. Has also contributed useful ideas to contest administrative topics but not to the same extent as other critics. Closing remarks during voting raised valid points but only accounted for the entries Iragam considered for first place, rather than analysis of all entries voted for. Mazin Fantastic of level of participation and one of the most conversational critics. Extremely active on entries submitted throughout the entire duration of the contest, despite initially neglecting earlier entries. Provided an extremely comprehensive analysis for each entry he awarded votes, along with two essays; the first offering greater insight behind hi voting decisions while the second an evaluation of the building aspect of the contest. Also provided comprehensive feedback in some of the administrative topics.

  10. Why, yes indeed! Aye, it's that good!
  11. Here's a Classic-Pirates.com blog post with even more details.
  12. Will ye be creating a clip of just the pirate submissions? If so, I'll incorporate it into the upcoming blog post on the Series 3 pirate themed submissions.
  13. @Captain Pirate Man, did I read somewhere earlier in the week that you created a YouTube video covering the 2023 Series 3 pirate submissions? I'm playing weekend catch-ups and can't remember if you mentioned that somewhere or I dreampt it!
  14. Dear LEGO Pirate fans, For an upcoming blog post we're seeking photos of 40597 Scary Pirate Island whether they be: Direct builds as per the instructions Modifications/improvements you've made - have you made tweaks to make the design better? Customizations - beyond minor improvements, have you introduced your own elements? E.g. custom minifigure design Remakes or reinterpretations - going to the fullest extreme, have completely remade/overhauled the set from the ground up? Many fans felt that the set could have been better executed - so show us how you've improved upon the official design?
  15. Which regional LEGO.com store are you attempting to purchase from?
  16. Be that sarcasm emanating from them words of yours?
  17. What about using third-party replicas created by customizers like Tim Begovic?
  18. We especially need someone to moderate the chat - so if you're active there or at least check the group messaging feature, you might be the ideal candidate! The most important things are: a) we find something you enjoy doing b) something that works with your schedule But step into my office and we can discuss the possibilities further...
  19. Mighty fine YouTube channel, with great coverage of both pirates and other LEGO themes. Everyone should definitely subscribe! https://www.youtube.com/c/MikeyJProductions We're certainly excited to have you involved! Whether that be just for contests, or something more ongoing in your spare time. We can discuss possibilities to find something that suits... Since you're active in the Classic Pirates Facebook Group we could always use another Group Moderator as the group is growing rapidly and we need to keep marauders from infiltrating! But beyond that, did you have anything in particular in mind?
  20. So almost a decade then! That must have been very painful to learn - we are here for you, if ever need support. (I'd insert the pirate hugging emoji - but we don't have one) But the Renegade Runner Captain Ironhook's ship! Or do you mean a bigger ship to rival the Skulls Eye Schooner and Black Seas Barracuda?
