2009 Pirate Set Impressions - the good, the bad and the ugly
Mister Phes replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
Overall What I like The return of the Imperial Guards. The red torso looks much better than the white torsos of their precedessors The torso design itself is a suitable upgrade. [*] The return of the old Imperial Guard flag design. [*] The decision to bring back the old style firing cannons [*] The new elements such as telescope, dynamite, etc. What I don't like The designs are passable but they're definitely not as good as they could be. BaronSet's Puerto Brico and Oo7's Imperial Powder Magazine demonstrate there are still designs which employ SYSTEM asthetic and look fantastic. The new Pirate Flag - the Jolly Roger (Skulls and Crossbones) looks someone alien. The original design was far superior. The prospect that the brick design on the fort walls are going to be stickers. The new shark - the old sharks were just fine. -
Congratulations on building your first MOC General Knowledge! It's quite a good first effort too - I like the tree and I don't think the great pieces hurt it. In fact it probably needs a second colour to prevent the green from becoming overwelming or monotomous. He looks like he's got a decent food supply with all the clams and fish - he should have built a tree house like Swiss Family Robinson...

This is a fine creation BlackBrit! However, did you read my post in your Some Pirate stuff I have made or changed around thread? Here it is again: May I suggest you read our How to Deeplink and Post Images Tutorials as this will teach you how to link directly to your Brickshelf images. This way you don't have to worry about whether your Brickshelf folders are moderated because your images will display regardless. Also, may I recommend our How to perform a batch image resize Tutorial. Threads with an image in their first post usually get more attention so this is something you might want to take advantage of. Bare in mind we prefer the images to be in .JPG format and no larger than 800 x 600 pixels so as not to burden those with slower Internet connections and smaller monitor. Those Tutorials should help your MOCs get plenty of responses!

Welcome aboard Guss! You've done a fine job with the pieces you have. Though if you ever do come across a mast piece I'd recommend you use that for the mast instead of a plate - it'll make things look sleeker. And as for sails - are you ever going to add any?
-
How savage of you Tordenskjold! I was just wondering about the hangman though - isn't there better headwear you could use? Like something from the Ninja theme? The witches hat doesn't look quite right to me!
-
Captain Zuloo! Good to see you've decided to post these MOCs! Your aim to create SYSTEM like sets has been achieved well. The Bricksforth Trader demonstrates a fine smaller vessel although I do think it needs sails otherwise the hull seems a bit too long without them. It's a shame you scuttled her - was that accidential or intentional?

You've got to be paying attention to the ads dear Adam! If you look at the ads at the bottom of the forum they will warn you of these auctions further in advance. This threads only showcase the highlights. -
Buy a base of Operations for your Soldiers or Imperial Guards
Mister Phes replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
6277 Imperial Trading Post For the imperial guard a nice little port but the guards are a bit sleepy the pirates have just sailed into port in a little sailing dingy while the guards watched the galleon sailing out of port one is running to take control of the cannon the other is running to overpower the guard in the tower will they succeed you will have to buy it to find out the rest of the story is yours! -
Or maybe the LEGO Group decided to cancel the new pirate theme after the images got leaked to teach people not to leak images in the future. And yes, lurkers who are looking for an opportunities to misinterpret my posts, I'm being very facetious
-
WHOA!!! Hold on! Do we have a thread for this? That looks awesome! If the LEGO Group were considering to release more Imperial Guard sets then I'd say go with that design!

Megabloks Pyrates and Pirates of the Caribbean Sets
Mister Phes replied to Akkhraziel's topic in LEGO Pirates
Don't worry folks! Oo7 has come to the rescue! Have you seen his Primage Rock Lighthouse yet - it's terrific! Now all we need to do is convince the LEGO Group to mass produce his MOC -
What kind of reaction did it receive at Brickfair?

I think the Value Pack was a Northern American special only so that makes finding a genuine version much rare. Of course you could easily throw it together with spare pieces, but if you're a collector seeking the real deal your chances as diminished. I'd never heard of a Puckle Gun before so thank you for enlightening me.

Well, I'll still get a catalogue scan one day - I believe it would be interesting to see catalogue pages from each region as the name of the mini-figure may vary from region to region.
-
I cannot answer that for you Mr Dreamweb. I presume the set the predates both the comic and the Ladybird book series, so the character was changed for the sake of that media. But if you don't believe me then I shall have to scan a catalogue one day.

Did you make a bid for Adam? And if so, did you WIN???

You'll definitely need pictures otherwise people will not be able to comment on your MOC! VBBN is right, you should deeplink your images, if you don't know how to do this then refer to our How to Deeplink and Post Images - deeplinking will enable you to post images without having to wait for your Brickshelf folder to be moderated.

Well it looks like it's time for me to do some sleeping! Late at night some themes just blend into one another... It's a bad habbit of mine...
