Ahhhhhh SlyOwl is back! I knew he'd provide a useful answer. Now, if I've noticed correctly, this new Pirate Ship uses 1 x 4 log walls as part of its hull - did anyone else notice this?

It would be best if everyone kept their opinions of Forbidden Cove to themselves. If this thread begins accumulates anymore negativity towards Forbidden Cove it will have to be closed. We do not defame or persecute other websites here.

I think it's best we don't speculate the future of Forbidden Cove here, they have their policies for a reason and I don't think we should be question their intentions. Just give their community time to grow and see what happens.

To be genuinely critical one must evaluate both their likes and dislikes of the subject under critique. I've created a thread in which teh reviewer must state what they like and what they dislike about these new sets. There will be no debate nor discussion based on their response, each reviewer will have the opportunity to share their thoughts. I realise some of you have already shared your thoughts in the New 2009 Pirates Set List thread so the purpose of this thread is to consolidate your opinions of the new sets - speculation and general discussion can remain in the other thread. Based on the images what are your thoughts on these sets? Here's an example to get you started: Set 6243 (the ship) Overall I think these sets are worthy enough to relaunch the LEGO Pirate theme, however there is still room for improvement, particularly in regard to design. It's great to see new faces and torsos while retaining the Traditional Imperial Guard Flag motif. Everything that should be in the pirate theme is here, from the animals to the brick textures on the wall pieces. What I like A return to the old style shooting cannons is brilliant! The inclusion of Imperial Guards - it seems almost everybody wants more of these guys The new dress on woman captive has some nice details. It's also good to have an actual dress piece for the Pirate theme. Giving the monkey a banana is a nice touch What I don't like The new Jolly Roger (Skull and Cross Bone) Design on the sails and flags - it looks too "<insert that tiresome argument>" and may initially repel some AFOLs. There's only 4 pirates - that's not enough to crew a ship that size! The shark is too big. Replace when an original shark and add an extra pirate mini-figure or two. Then repeat that for each of the sets... You don't have to review all the sets at once, you can do them one at time and come back later. If a reviewer strays too far beyond that format their post will be moved to the New 2009 Pirates Set List thread. Congratulations Evildead! Your MOC has been frontpaged on Classic-Pirates.com. It took us a few weeks but we had quite a bit of news to get through and there's many great MOCs being created at the moment. Pirates must be in the air or something

Please note pictures must be no bigger than 800 x 600 otherwise they take too long to download for people with dial up Internet connections.

You've summated my thoughts exactly Count Sneffy! And with forums such as ours plenty of feedback can be generated to help shape possible 2010 releases.

No pictures just yet please. Also note we prefer images to be no larger than 800 x 600 as not everyone has a fast Internet connection or a wide screen monitor. As you can imagine someone on dialup would be spending hours waiting for the thread to load.

How did I miss this MOC? This seems to be occurring all too frequently lately and I hope it's because you MOCers are building so many great MOCs I can't possibly keep up with them! I'll flag this one as frontpage material as well - that's the third for today!

I see new torsos, legs and faces as well! There's even a new design on the shako. Beneath the fish is what appears to be a campfire . I also see a white rat in the solder Fort - is that a new critter? The large flag on the soldier fort appears to be made from material and the stone walls appear to have a new brick pattern. That seems plenty of new stuff to me! I think they've got the balance between old and new just right because if there were too many new elements people would begin crying "that's not the pirates we all love!" There's got to be a certain amount of familiarity to prevent that.

Lets not post pictures just yet as we may not be permitted to display them. I'm currently seeking clarification on the matter and will keep you all informed as soon as I receive a response.
