  1. You wouldn't need to do much to "piratize" 9474 Battle of the Helms Deep except for replace the minifigures. Maybe add some tropical plants and pirate-themed creatures. 6242 Soldiers Fort would be good for such accessories, but in terms of structure, the white bricks might be a bit limiting due to the colour contrast.
  2. Ok thanks! It's good to know the origin of minifigure names because sometimes fan created names become so ingrained in LEGO Pirate Lore people \mistake them for being official, like Steve for example.
  3. Where did you get the name "Captain Pete"?
  4. So anywhere between 4 and 8 hours?
  5. You're right! Remove the effeminate elements, drop in a pirate or two and this set would make a nice pirate shanty.
  6. That is a superb effort! How much time has it taken you to get this far?
  7. This is one of the Imperial Armada's more modest outposts... Although, those men appear to be wearing the uniform issued at least two centuries ago, so 200 hundreds years later I'd assume the fort has been substantially upgraded.
  8. That's news to me... The closest anyone has come to doing this is a fellow who goes by the name of Brick Miner. (Thread here but images appear to be long gone.) He managed to replicate the style of the box art on the Western themed sets by taking samples of the background then vectorising it and expanding upon it. The Western theme box art however, is stylistically different to the Pirate box art you've shown as examples, and easier to replicate. You'd need a lot of time and patience to pull that off effectively with the Classic Pirate box art!
  9. I don't think photos of just the background have been released. Back in those days the LEGO Group built dioramas to photograph the sets and backgrounds against, opposed to these days where the backgrounds are digitally edited in later. So therefore, the backgrounds would have to be photographed separately (without the set) for such images to exist. Possibly, tests shots of this nature were done but there would have been no reason to ever release them publicly. I'm writing entirely hypothetically here so I could be wrong, but it would be great to have them.
  10. Or maybe just a new Pirate sub-theme would do the job... I shall bookmark this thread for future LEGO Ambassador reference.
  11. Congratulations Capt. Redblade, we've selected you as the News Scout! BUT!!! We're looking to train more News Scouts as soon as Capt. Redbalde is savvy, so for anyone still interested it's recommended to remain highly active in the LEGO Pirates Forum over the upcoming weeks. We chose Capt. Redblade because he has: been a long-term member for over 3 years. very good English written and communication skills. zero warning points and interacts well with other members. a high level of maturity regular forum participation. a piratey username and avatar/sigfig - not essential, but a favourable bonus. So if you can aspire to the above, you'll have a higher chance of being selected as the next recruit. We'll be keeping a close eye (or three) on everyone who has applied, but if anyone has changed their mind just let us know.
  12. Very soon... Things are happening... Just awaiting on the final confirmation...
  13. Ah yes, turns out we need to review the News Scout position and update the manual. So that's creating a slight delay. Is the anticipation killing anyone?
  14. You are indeed correct, I have amended the presentation for when the next version eventually gets released. Apparently there is a turtle in the upcoming Friends theme, although it seems a bit too "pretty" for pirates. I've had a quick look and to re-order the animals by number of votes I'd have to edit the original spreadsheet for each chart. Unfortunately I don't have time for this, unless PowerPoint has a tool somewhere, but I cannot find it!
  15. The good old review process is underway - stay tuned!
  16. Three applicants! That's more than we need. Ok... Here's a little challenge for you all: Search the Internet and find something to blog then post it in this thread. It could be a MOC, Brickfilm, drawing, etc. just so long as its LEGO Pirates related and something we haven't blogged before. Set sail lads!
  17. The results are in! Remember the LEGO Pirates Animal Battle Pack Survey we conducted a few months back? The data has been collated and analysed so now we have presentation to share. Classic-Pirates.com-Animal_Battle_Packs.pdf Feel free to leave comments and feedback in this thread!
  18. Get yerself down to the pub and slap yer tricorn on some wench'es head! Like this...
  19. The idea is to have the banner represent each of the official LEGO Pirate Sub-themes. The problem without imposing restrictions is some people take too many liberties and go way off course, then we get too much of what we don't want. We've already given plenty of leeway by allowing Dutch, Portuguese, East India Trading Company, Colonisation of Central America, undead pirates and the Mesoamerican Civilisations, but there has to be line drawn somewhere. We also don't want too much overlap with the LEGO History Forum.
  20. Excellent - thank you! There isn't a deadline as such, when there feels like enough photos the thread will close. Probably be another few weeks though. The LEGO Pirates theme is focused upon the Caribbean...
  21. Thank you sir! These are great! Keep em comin! Thank you! By all means do more Islander variations - try some without the rock.
  22. I was completely charmed by this video with its music from pre-60's pirate movies. Its now a nostalgia film of nostalgia films. Does anybody know where it was originally broadcast?
  23. Nailed it! Thank you for contributing. Thank you, your photography is very good! The only problem is sometimes your watermark overlaps onto the minifigure, but there is still plenty of usable material in the photos. Be interesting to see if that fits within the confines of banner height, but I can certainly play round with it. Thank you for contributing!
  24. Yes, that's right. Except the shark would need to be entirely within the shot otherwise it will be lacking a tail!
