  1. That's brilliant Thrash. I love the prison cells the most, but the minifigs and building give it a good run. Top-notch module. Is it for the contest?
  2. That's much better already! The jagged effect adds so much to the entry, and so does the debris. I still feel that it could use a bit more color contrast though. Perhaps you could take a look at my last post for some suggestions on that matter. It would be fantastic if you could borrow a better camera for your photo taking, as I believe that will greatly enhance your entry's appeal. Nice work, and I wish you luck!
  3. Care to take a look at the first post lazy bones? I'd like to see what sort of ringtones Lord Chester had.
  4. I had just gotten back into LEGO, and was looking for a good on-line community and then found Eurobricks. It's as simple as that.
  5. Have a happity-dappity-zappity-zoo birthday!
  6. That looks excellent Brickzone. The building almost has an oriental feel to it with the red, gold and black colors. The interior is lovely as well. I've been greatly enjoying your Medieval Market Village buildings.
  7. That's certainly a great way to start off your Eurobricks career. You've made a really lovely entry here Toutouille. The pictures are clean and crisp, and the MOC itself is very well put together. The idea is quite hilarious and the way you built the raft is beautiful. It looks jagged and rough as you would expect from a shipwrecked thing, yet it still has lovely details inside. The deck looks superb with the tan and brown tiles. Some improvement ideas: 1) That shark looks a bit odd resting on top of the water like that. Perhaps you could place a dark grey slope on the water to give the effect of the shark's top fin sticking out of the water. 2) Maybe have the woman looking at the shark with a scared face, because he has her paddle. 3) I think having some debris floating around like barrels, or some brown plates or tiles scattered around, would add a lot to the slightly bare water. =========================================================== Even without any changes, your entry is excellent. A humorous idea, and beautiful design make your entry great. Good luck in the contest!
  8. Pretty good entry! It's funny that 2 shipwrecked-type entries were posted on the same morning. I love the expressions on the faces, they really add a lot to the feel of panic. Another thing that you've done well is adding some debris in the water, which makes it much more interesting. It's a shame that you have to use a webcam, because the pictures from that will never do this justice, but ah well. Some improvement ideas: 1) I would recommend reversing the direction the the raft is facing, so you don't have the unsightly bottoms of the bricks showing. Then you can tile the top for a perfectly smooth look. 2) Like the others said, definitely try to make the raft a bit more jagged, so it looks like it's really been blasted off. 3) Your entry feels a bit too flat in the color area. Primarily because it uses solid blocks of one color, like the plain blue water and the all-brown raft. This could be improved dramatically by inserting some splashes of a different color in some parts. Here are a few ideas: You could mix some light blue, white, and trans-clear plates (or just 1 or 2 of them) in with the water, which will make it much more exciting to the eye. Placing some spilled jewels and coins around the treasure chest might be nice. A black lantern on the wall. Putting some black or dark brown plates in between the layers of brown on the bottom of the deck. The ever-popular parrot perched somewhere. Any of these things would be welcome additions, and will make your entry so much more interesting. ==================================================================== Overall, you have an excellent start on this, and I look forward to seeing your progress in the near future. Good luck!
  9. Ouch. I really enjoy everything, but I'll just cover my favorites. Pirates, because I find that they have a lot of great parts that are useful for the type of MOCs I like to make, plus I love the Imperial Soldier minifigs, among other things. Indiana Jones because I love the adventure aspect of the line, and the sets always appeal to me. They also contain excellent parts, often in harder to find colors like dark green. Star Wars, I don't really like Star Wars for MOCing pieces as they often contain quite a bit of Technic, but I have always liked Star Wars and I enjoy seeing things from the movies brought into LEGO form. Agents because of the fun minifigs, interesting sets and unique pieces. And finally, City because when I think of LEGO, I think of City. To me it's the classic LEGO feel. Of course, these are just a few lines that I enjoy. There's hardly a LEGO line that I'm not a fan of.
  10. Superb. Tons of great detail and just an overall really fun MOC. I especially like that roof and the sunflowers.
  11. I definitly wouldn't go for the Speedboat Rescue, mainly because the price per piece ratio is extremely low compared to the other Agents sets. As for the other 2, I have both and I can safely say that they are excellent sets. Obviously the Deep Sea Quest is larger, and has more pieces. So if you're willing to spend the extra money on it certainly go for it. It's an excellent set. What I like about it is that the boat doesn't seem like an afterthought like secondary vehicles often do. Both crafts have good design and what's not to like about a glow-in-the-dark octopus? Swamp Raid is also a great set. It's a little barren, but it's a pretty good parts pack and has a fun concept. Overall, you can't go wrong with either of those 2 in my opinion.
  12. I agree. As tempting as the price is, it's far too technic-y for me to use as a parts pack, and the minifigs are nothing special. Must not have been too popular, Star Wars sets don't seem to go half-price very often...
  13. And so you shall! You'll get there buddy, keep it up.
  14. Nice to meet you new member! I look forward to getting to know you better.
  15. I didn't really expect you to do that. I think auto parts can be posted here, but members posting their clothing purchases and make-up cross the line. Anyways, back on topic. Yesterday I bought 2 new storage containers for storing some pieces that I had too many of to fit in my storage drawers. I need to order a new drawer sometime. I'm running out of space since I've been parting out more sets.
  16. That's looking excellent! Nice improvements. The addition of the rowboat and debris in the water really make that area more interesting. Plus, the new things below deck make the already exciting entry even more so. A few more improvement ideas: 1) The second and third pictures are still a bit dark and blurry. Make sure to use the macro function on your camera and perhaps add some more light. A white piece of paper or posterboard can also reflect the light well and provide a cleaner background. 2) I think that the second picture should be taken from a bit farther back, so viewers can see the whole thing. Right now it's hard to see the lowest level, which looks very interesting. ============================================ Your entry is already looking much better, and I think it will turn out fantastic.
  17. Yes, but this particular thread is for purely LEGO purchases as indicated in the topic description. Otherwise everyone would say: "today I bought a dozen eggs, milk and cheese." If you want to create a "What C.D. did you buy today" thread, then by all means do so.
  18. Like ISC, I'm pretty busy right now, but once things slow down I'd love to put something together for this. It's looking like an excellent project and I can't wait to see some of the modules.
  19. Sounds like some you have some great ideas to fix this up! Thanks for explaining the story, I get it now. I think adding some debris in the water will really liven the MOC up. Perhaps a floating barrel would look nice as well. A few more things that might be nice: 1) I agree with Fluyt that it would be a good idea to fill up the lower level a bit. Maybe a soldier running down the stairs, a bloody body, some barrels, stuff like that. 2) Not sure if there's room for this, but putting a boat in the water with redcoats in it might be a nice touch. If there's not room, just some debris would look fine. ================================================== I eagerly await seeing your updates!
  20. Welcome to the scabbiest bunch of scallywags you'll ever see! Hope ye enjoy ye stay.
  21. Here we are, the first entry! I like that you've gone with a slightly different idea, building more of an action scene rather than a peaceful cabin or such. The fire burning on the cannon is a really lovely detail and the way you've made it burn through the side looks excellent. There are a few things though that I think could be improved. Some improvements you could make: 1) Definitely go for some better pictures. The current ones make it pretty hard to make out all of the details and action since they are dark and blurry. I would recommend using a white backdrop for a clean look. 2) I'm a bit confused by the story... I think it's a bit hard to follow because it looks as though the pirates are fighting alongside the bluecoats against the redcoats. Perhaps you could describe the story a bit more so it's easier to understand. 3) This is just a minor thing, but I think it would be wise to put some more "exciting" heads on the minifigs. Some that show some expression other than a smile. Maybe a scared head, and some angry ones to go with the happy guys. 4) I would recommend including a few more overview shots so viewers can get a more complete sense of what the entry looks like. Of course, a few close-ups are always welcome. I think you have a good start on this, and once you have some clearer pictures up we'll be able to give you even more help. Good luck to you!
  22. Ha! I just realized I accidently posted that here and not in the Mystery Manor thread. Sorry for any confusion!
  23. Great news! This makes the contest even better than it already is. Thanks to the new prize donors! Man, there are too many contests this month, I can't keep up.
  24. Rarely. Usually I only buy sets that I can't find at regular stores like Target, such as TRU exclusives and S@H exclusives. If I'm placing an order already and there's a normal set I want I may go ahead and order it. Also if I ever want an impulse set such as the Soldier's Arsenal, I always get it from S@H because few of my local stores carry impulses.
  25. A very happy birthday to the both of you! Have some Erdbeereis from me.
