  1. Nice GoH advertising!
  2. Here is my progress on what I'm hoping to turn into an entry for challenge 4: I decided to work on the water elemental and microscale background last. The ship is modular and floors lift out to access the interior.
  3. Looking good! Definately better than what I will be able to come up with this challenge... @DaMaximus- having all the city names on the single map is really helpfull for people like me that like to have a quick reference on hand!
  4. The Hamlet minifig is my favorite out of this bunch. Conquistador and Diver tie for second. However Conquistador's blank torso will be traded out for the Pirate Captain's torso. Other than the torso, the pirate captain is not very impressive IMO. I will also definately be getting Evil Robot, Bavarian, Vampire and Fairy. I wasn't too impressed with the fairy at first but she is growing on me. I still strongly dislike that hairpiece. Santa could have been a hit seeing what LEGO can do (ex. the Hobbit Minifigs) but I'm going to pass as I already have torso and beard and I'm sure the hat will show up in a future set. Female Alien is undecided for me. I'm not too big of a fan of AC but it is a decent minifig. Skier, Trader, Cowgirl, & Disco Guy are all decent designs but of no interest to me. Note that I would have bought the skier if she had brown skies, Trader if he had an older suit design, and the Cowgirl if she didn't have such a modern look. Disco Guy looks exactly as I expected; I just don't have a use for him. If the Cheerleader had an "M" instead of an "A" and was in red, then I would probably buy one. The Football player is as I expected but I think the Hockey player was a better fit for the "padding". If it was of exceptional design I probably would be getting one. But nothing new here so probably my least favorite of the series.
  5. Realy nice build! There are some great ideas here like the use of that baseplate, windows, and tree...
  6. Very nice! I think why there are so many commmets on the cheese slopes is because that is really what makes this MOC stand out. The roof is nice but the color and design of the walls is what I really like. And I think the 1x4 plates work fine for the straw...
  7. Issue #4 by Clive Harper Victor Revolword With rumors of Victor Revolword's traitorous actions, I decided to do some research into his past. I found the following painting of him when he was the headmaster at the Cedrica Academy of Magic. It seems that even then his eyes burned with madness. Is that a crest of Historica he is holding? In Other News Mikel has been too busy of late to work on his Backpackers Guide to the Greater Siccus Badlands so he has asked me if I wanted to publish some legends he has come across on his travels. A Legend of Kaliphlin: Satyr The Satyr is probably the last creature in Historica any parent wants their maiden daughter to meet. It is said that no woman can resist his smile. Lazy, immoral, and dishonest, the Satyr's only goal in life is to seduce women. No one knows whether the Satyr has the legs and hooves of a goat or whether that is an exageration parents tell their daughters to try to keep them from the Satyr's haunts. But one thing is for certain, no creature can play the flute like the Satyr. A Legend of Nocturnus: Cyclops Born with a rare genetic defect, the Cyclops was abandoned in the wilderness as a newborn by his horified human parents. An orc clan happened to find him and raised him as one of their own. One day as his clan raided a trade caravan, the Cyclops realized that he was human, not orc. His orc parents then told him the truth of his beginnings and from that day on, the Cyclops has a burning hatred for humanity. He now roams the wilds, looking for humans to kill, each day losing a bit more of what is left of his humanity. And as a bonus for this issue I present to you a Karinca Orakayak Rider!
  8. Yes another battle would be awesome! The family of our fallen soldier will be well compensated. Mikel lost a soldier in his quest for the water crystal as well, so all in all I think the battle went very well. Should you ever need help again, don't hesitate to call on House Kalores. -Gaius Kaleci, Regent of House Kalores
  9. I hope you have a lot of patience... I think that progress will be slowed down a bit until weather starts cooling off. I've been spending most of my free time the last few weeks outdoors. On top of that, my LEGO budget is maxed out between the LoTR, Super Heroes & Star Wars sets combined with a massive BL order for an unrelated Lego project. And it looks like I need another BL order to complete a few of my current WIPs... The good news is that I don't foresee any setbacks in my builds for the Kaliphlin Times other than not enough time.
  10. The cracked hole in the ice is really well done! And I also like the snow covered bush.
  11. I really like the meat house! Nice touch with the Kaliphlinians checking out the Mitgardian girl! The sloped road is another element that makes this MOC stand out.
  12. Thanks for the comments! Minifig building is so much fun! That would be a super fun endeavor!
  13. As I have said before, my castle is under redesign. I was inspired by some pics I found and put together my idea on LDD. On the first "satelite view" I labeled buildings that I have in construction stage.
  14. Aewsome action! I really enjoyed ready the different perspectives! The old lion torsos worked quite fine for my men.
  15. Gaius Kaleci acting as regent for House Kalores will be sending 5 men. He asks that you equip them for battle as you see fit. They are trained in all weapons but are expert at none.
  16. I'm not to fond of the fleshy heads but with all the licensed themes LEGO has been doing in the last few years, I have been getting quite a few. And because some of the torsos that are really cool have flesh prints and as I also have other color minifigs such as brown, I have decided to incorporate them as another "race". But my main "hero" characters are and will continue to be yellow as long as my fleshy head collection remains to be in the minority. I think that whether my heroes remain yellow will be determined by the direction LEGO group takes. If LEGO continues to make more face designs on yellow heads then (with the collectable minifig series, the yellows look like they have a bright future) yellows will always remain supreme. The only sets I have bought this year other than collectable minifigs and the 2 kingdoms sets are Licensed themes so I hope this isn't an indication of the future.
  17. Is this a temporary going inactive I hope?
  18. Thanks everyone for the comments! I really wanted to add some more backdrop to the scene but I knew if I didn't limit myself then this would have been added to my many shelves of incomplete MOCs. So before I started putting this together I chose the base to put it on. Then came the mask display which i tried several different ways to attach the rope. I salvaged the fountain from my castle which is in redesign stage. I thought several times about adding a small building or something but decided that I wanted the scene to be able to fit right in to a city of any of the guilds. I am almost sure it must be a secret mission as he looks quite pleased and doesn't seem confused as he should if he lost his memory.... With deGothia's mission to Mitgardia, it makes me wonder if Dugal is not up to something similar...
  19. I am pretty sure the expectation is for us to create our own... the thought has occured to me say should someone create a snow elemental for a blizzard for example, it would fall under the water elemental category. As far as guidelines, none come to mind besides the size restrictions. Note though that the damage must be some form of "natural" disaster.
  20. As long as there is at least some destruction, say like an outer wall of a city being demolished by a wave while the remainder of the city remains intact, etc, it should fit perfectly. I think it will also depend on the kind of elemental and thereby destruction you have in mind...
  21. Nice job! Very nice walls, door, windows, roof and interior. But I also really like the cobblestone road. I've been trying different techniques for roads and courtyards but I really like how you did this one! The only criticism would me my dislike for open back buildings. But that aside as I know I am unique in that preference, I think this is probably my second favorite of the MOCs I have seen built by you, the first of course being the bridge.
  22. I have a musician but you have to wait for a future issue of Kaliphlin Times to see him I'm going to try to do a Legends of Historica series for the Kaliphlin Times and Kaliphlin's legend happens to be a "musician". The two deciding factors in when it will get published is 1. I need to build a bit of background & 2. I am still deciding whether to release one legend per issue or to just do a bulk issue with all 4 legends, one from each of the guilds. Right now it looks like I'm going to go with the bulk issue as my Lego time seems to be limited during the summer. As far as the boarder, doesn't the Elf trader count? @Angeli- you got some nice figs there! I really like the first one!
  23. I really like the head of this wyrm and the Kaliphlin colors in the frame!
  24. We have at least 3 more challenges including the current one and I know quite a few of us want to keep Historica going even after the challenges end, so yes, you can still join. With that said, welcome to Kaliphlin!
  25. With all the suspense waiting for Collectable Minifig series 8, I came up with my own fantasy version: 1.Grelf with samurai sword 2.Ay' Kabile seafarer with sword 3.Elf huntress with small bow 4.Rich nobleman with sword and banner 5.Arabian thief with dagger 6.Elf trader with map 7.Karinca desert race with shield and blade 8.Northern warrior with battle ax 9.Heroine warrior with sword and shield 10.High elf king with scepter 11.Drunken nobleman with mug 12.Amazon huntress with spear 13.High elf warrior with spear and shield 14.Hero warrior with tall ax 15.Kidnapped princess with chains 16.Desert warrior with sword and shield Optional replacement of one of the above minifigs with Dwarven smith with hammer And another pic with a clearer view of the faces:
