Heroica RPG - Quest #49: The Light That Reveals Everything
Etzel replied to Etzel's topic in The Heroica Archive
"He stayed at my office over at the north-west part of the convent. I can take you there if you want to." "Oh, that his his own knife! I recognize it because it was I who gave it to him as a gift when he had finished his Paladin training." "I took him to my office so he could get sober and sleep it off. But after he had fallen asleep I went to my own sleeping quarter and didn't notice when he left. A novice? Ehm, yeah, uhm, I guess so... he talked a bit with Sira. But I don't know anything about it really." Alexis examines the body closely with her magnifying glass: She can see that the knife, which has an inscription with the letters M.M. on the hilt, is stuck deep in sir Mandric's throat, and comes to the conclusion that he must've died quickly. He also has some bruises on the left wrist, like someone had grabbed a tight hold on it. The body smells heavily of alcohol and blood, but the amount of blood on the floor is surprisingly small and when Alexis looks closer she can see that a lot of it trickled down between the mosaic plates of the floor. There seems to be much space underneath. -

The morning starts with Haldor and Cronk running behind priestess Mandrea from the entry into the Sanctuary where they are met with this sight: Priestess Mandrea starts to cry again at the sight of her dead brother sir Mandric. Right then is Alexis coming into the Sanctuary from the corridor leading to the kitchen and joins the other heroes. "Please help me! You must find the murderer who did this to my dear brother!" The heroes look at each other and understands that they now have a new mission to take care of. Find the murderer who killed Sir Mandric Melifano right in the middle of the Sanctuary of Ennoc. Play on! -

Yeah, thanks TRPU! It was fun. -
I built this Lord of the Rings MOC last week and brought it to an event with Swebrick, the Swedish LUG, this weekend. First I had planned to do a build with all of the fellowship, but I didn't come up with anything good at the moment so I settled for this idea. I think it is a really iconic scene for the first movie. Sorry for the non-clean background. The trees got a bit demolished in the transport home and I'm not sure if I'm going to rebuild them so I took the photos from the event. Hope you like it!

It was great to finally see this project IRL this weekend, Jesper! It's so huge and it's amazing how detailed it is at that scale. What I also really like is all the angles and different levels on the walls and towers. It makes it very interesting to look at and also gives a natural feeling to it. My Etzel-duck enjoyed it too:

Heroica RPG - Quest #49: The Light That Reveals Everything

OoC: Sorry for the hold up. I was at a LUG event this weekend and didn't get much time to post. "No, I'm in the 2nd Battalion of Light and Justice. We are much smaller than the 1st Battalion and usually stay here on Uland to protect the Order's holdings here. We travel so much so I hardy has a place to call "home", but I don't mind. I like the soldier life." "Not much different, all novices goes through the same basic training. But yes, some of the boys do spend more time at the training grounds than in the study. And, the Justice of Ennoc has a stable where many of the paladin's horses are kept, and we all know how much boys loves horses, right?" The chef, Fat Mats, makes some grumpy noises from the kitchen and priestess Mandrea shows with a nod to the heroes and the staff that it's time to leave the dining hall. They walk together through the corridor to the Sanctuary. "I think it's time for me to retire for the night. I've got some work to do to night as well. If you are tired you can return to the entry, or if you want to stay up a bit longer I'm sure someone from the staff will be happy to keep you company. I'll see you tomorrow." The heroes have some different opinion on what to do now so they will experience the evening and the night a bit different. PM's to each of you will be sent out soon. Please don't post in this topic until I give sign. -
Well, I'm feeling a bit absent minded at the moment but I will try and answer these suspicions the best I can. You aren't really accusing me for anything in this statement. Yes, I've mostly voted with the crowd, but so far that has turned out well, don't you think? My suspicions of bergulf were wrong and I didn't really know who to turn my suspicions to this day. I haven't spent all days and nights whispering to people so I'm somewhat in the dark. Sure some persons seems more scummy than others but I have no concret eveidence. My tacic with going by voting patterns alone wasn't very great. But at day two I didn't have much else to go after, that's why I still did it and chose to name those persons. Carl Poem-Piece and Beorn Ale-Lover are those who are still on my meager suspect list since they haven't really showed themself much during the day. Snotra seems too outspoken and agressive to be scum. What can I say? I've been unlucky with my voting. Really, the voting pattern strategy wasn't very great, I know. And I didn't go by it much after day 2 since we had more to go on in forms of accusations and claims and what not. It might seem strange to not follow the strategy you speak for, but I think it's good to be able to realize when a strategy isn't working and then abandon it. The Snotra incident was just a misunderstanding, nothing else. Bergulf well, I didn't understood much of the whole Dragmall-Hervi-conflict so I just went with my previous suspicions. The last minute change of votes were pretty much to be at the safe side regarding getting a lynch that day. I was still worried that some migth unvote Gerrid so we wouldn't have the enough votes to convict him. Besides, I happend to be more aware of the situation at that time (read. online), so why not do something (since I clearly hasn't been doing much else). The case on Hervi were laid out pretty clear so I felt it would be stupid not to go with the crown on that one. My own suspicions of Bergulf was not much against what Petrus and the others had on Hervi. And I thought that I could always look closer on Bergulf's actions later, which turned out useless. So there, my thoughts on the matter. If you lynch me, you will lose a pretty useless Einherjar, but I am at least an Einherjar. If you want me to raise my suspisions on someone else, fine, but I don't have strong cases on anyone, just suspicious feelings. For example on Stemid the Pale who has been almost as useless as me with nothing but wage talk and concuring with more outspoken persons.

"No, we've had novices of both sex here at the convent, but recently the boys seem to have favored another institution, the Justice of Ennoc. It's located closer to Eubric, about half a days travel on the west road." "I couldn't simply ignore it. I never wanted it and I never felt like the ether was a part of me. I just wanted to live as a normal being without magic." The chatting continues as the time goes on and it's getting later in the evening. The novices are leaving the dining hall to return to their sleeping quarters. "I've prepared beds for you in the entry. You can sleep there tonight. Do you have any more questions about our institution? It's always fun to talk to people that are interested in our work here." -
Well, I can honestly say I didn't expect Bergulf coming up as town. But I guess the way Hervi guided him made his action and speak coming out more scummy than they were. I haven't had any contact with Hervi so I can't provide anything in that subject, but I hope those who have will come forward and share that. I don't have any strong suspicions as of yet today, I had thought before today that it would be a good idea to focus on Bergulf today, but that turned out wrong in many ways.

congratulations on getting the set so early. There are tutorials on how to post pictures on the forum here: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=19193 Remember that you can't upload photos directly to EB but to an image hosting site, then deeplinking from there.

Sounds perfectly fine to me. Do whichever feels best for you, we who are just taking advantage of your hard work can survive a little searching. I can give you bios for my new NPCs after the quest is done

Heroica RPG - Quest #49: The Light That Reveals Everything
Etzel replied to Etzel's topic in The Heroica Archive
"It depends on at which stage of your life you are at when entering the Order, but everyone starts with a test to get an idea of where they stand in question of power, ether and knowledge. After that you go to a convent to study if you are still a child, or to one of the lower battalions if you are old enough to fight. Some also go direct to one of our temples as priest apprentices but then you need a lot of previous experience. The lower battalions, mainly the Fourth and Fifth, is responsible for most of the guarding duties in the Order and doesn't do much actual fighting, which leaves much time for practice. The convents, as you might have seen, offer a great variety of studying for the novices. They learn of both the spiritual and militarily sides of the Order, plus of course to read and count." "That's right. Our novices gets a very broad education and can choose from many different careers when it's time for them to leave our convent. Some go on to the battalions, some as clerics, some as paladins, some continue studying the deeper aspects of Ennoc and the Light to become priests and of course, there are options outside the Order as well as scribes, administrators and bureaucrats for governments and wealthy families. Unfortunately it costs quite a lot to educate a child during all those years and few families can afford to send their child to a convent. We only have four novices at the moment here at the House of Ennoc's Children." Mandrea points at the novices table in the dining hall: "Apology accepted, Haldor. I'm happy that we can leave that intermezzo in the study behind us. I was recruited by the Order while I was serving in the Bonaparte navy. I never did much fighting myself, but I developed my medical skills thanks to all those pirate attacks we suffered. One day a lieutenant in the 2nd Battalion of Light and Justice visited me and offered me a job as a cleric in the Order. Much better pay and I didn't had to be stuck on a worm-eaten piece of wood in the middle of the Crystalline sea. I spent some years in the 2nd Battalion but then settled here about 9 years ago, I grew tired of healing wounds and dodging arrows." "Oh no, I'm eternally grateful to that witch! I never wanted those magical abilities and I was so happy when I finally found someone who could help me get rid of them." The chef, Fat Mats, comes out from the kitchen to clear the table. "I'll just get these plates, don't mind me. I know the food was probably awful, it always is. If it isn't burnt it's tasteless, or too spicy, or too dry, or not salty enough. You need a lot of beer to wash it down. Who wants a refill?" -
Even vampires need to think of their diet. Right: Wrong:

Thanks for your nice comments! About 4-5 evenings I think, spread out over 2 weeks. Some is SNOT and some is not. Here is a picture of the center part of the floor: Your quick builds are always great I think, they might not be huge and extremely detailed but they always deliver the right feeling and sets the mood for the quests. I wish I had the ability to make simple but nice looking backgrounds for my quests but I tend to get caught building.

"I'm not sure myself how it was done, but it involved much chanting and disgusting brews. I'm afraid I was not conscious at all time so I can't explain it all. It was painful indeed, but more so for the mind than the body, the constant feeling that something is missing can drive a man crazy. But I found peace in my gardening." "All the temples are constantly providing guidance for the people and much work also goes in our investments in land throughout the world. These schools for future clerics is of course also an important part of the Order." -

"I came from the 1st Battalion just recently. We've been around on a lot of places lately to ensure the security of Ennoc's followers and restore justice in lawless lands. Now I'm serving my time as instructor, something everyone in the Order must do at least once. I'm not that fond of it to be honest, but some persons seem to rather like it." Sir Helmer nudges Jorke the cleric in the side. "Anyway, I'm from Eubric originally. I miss the bustling city life sometimes." -

"Hello Cronk. Thanks for noticing the flowers, I mostly tend to the various vegetables and fruits in our garden but whenever I have the time I like to spend it with my flowers. No, I haven't always been a gardener, in my young days I was actually an up-and-coming mage. But I never liked dealing with magic and thanks to a powerful witch I got my source of ether removed and since then I have lived as a common man. I prefer to watch the nature's own magic instead of trying to interfere with it." "It depends on which part of the Order you are serving in. As a member of the 1st Battalion of Light and Justice I've gotten quite an extensive training, mostly focused on discipline and how to fight with the rest of the battalion as one unit. Man-to-man combat is more rare so it was a good opportunity to test my skills against your greenskin friend, I hope I get to meet you in the ring as well, my lady." -
Awesome! Exactly my thoughts too. I imagine the stalls would be located in arcades and in the middle there would be an open area where the worshipers/traders could interact with their god Mercutio or each other for business. But I won't dwell to much on this if Flipz is making something, there is so many other options to build.

Peter Jackson or the Great Goblin?

It's purely selfish reasons, with Maurice being a paladin. I had planned for my character to join the Paladin Order since I read Sandy's small note about them in the description on Ennoc in the Library. Naturally I wanted to build up a backstory for him and then all of the Order kind of came with that. I guess I should write down more about my ideas of it so others could use them as well, but I'm not objecting to people using their own ideas for the Paladin Order either, it's not like I hold monopoly on them. I would like to explore other sides of Eubric too. Has anyone done anything with the Catheadral of Commerce? It's supposed to be the biggest and most important place of worship in Eubric but I haven't heard much about it. Would be fun to build something that would be more or less the opposite of the Temple of Ennoc.

I'm doing some shameless self-promotion here. I've posted my Sanctuary MOC that features in my quest over at the Historic theme forum, here. It turned out quite much bigger than I had planned from the beginning...

Cronk and Haldor dug a deep hole (the earth sounded a bit strange at the end), put the heads in the grave and covered it up. After Cronk and Haldor had said their words, priestess Mandrea put some white flowers at the grave. "I think this will be a good resting place for them. I'll take care of the marking of the grave, don't you worry Cronk. But now we really have to go and eat, all the others are waiting for us." The heroes followed Mandrea quickly back through the Sanctuary and the south-east corridor to get to the Dining Hall. "Please take a seat here and I'll introduce you to the rest of the staff." "This is Sir Helmer, our training master. He is our newest member here at the convent." "Here we have Jorke, our cleric. He teaches healing and potion brewing to our novices." "Mr Ansar is our gardener. We are pretty self-sufficient here at the convent thanks to his green fingers." "And back at the kitchen is our chef, Fat Mats." "Finally! The food is probably ice cold and uneatable by now." The heroes sit down for supper and may choose which persons to converse with. -
I also think this is a very good idea. Helm's Deep has got really good parts for castle building, much better than the Kingdoms Castle IMO. Many bricks, plates, slopes and tiles in useful colours like dark grey, grey and sand green. I also like that LEGO has kept the number of large panels fairly low in this set. And I don't think you will have any problem to sell those minifigs, there are alot of collectors and army builders out there.

In my ongoing Heroica RPG Quest, The Light That Reveals Everything, the heroes have made it to a convent with a large sanctuary. It's dedicated to the god of Light and Justice, Ennoc, protector of the Paladin Order. From the beginning I was just planning to make a small set piece but well... it turned out a bit bigger With the heroes. Stained glass window technique is of course inspired by eilonwy77, the Queen of cheese slopes. Thanks for watching!

"Sir Behomund and Sir Praymond fell during a failed attempt to retake the lost Kingdom of Ennon about a hundred years ago, these are not their real graves but just memorial stones to honor their bravery. Priest Arbun and Sir Borert were active members of our convent and died of old age, Sir Borert about 70 years ago and Arbun was my predecessor and died not yet 12 years ago. Poor Halina is a tragic story, she was a novice here in the end of Arbun's lead. She tried to learn the ways of the cleric but she didn't have the talent for it. She tried too hard, eventually burnt herself out and decided to take her life in reaction to her failure. Her death really struck our convent hard and priest Arbun never really recovered."
