  1. Nice work. I liked your aches at the back especially.
  2. December 18 or January 1 does not really make a heck of a difference to me in the end. The lead up to Christmas is busy enough that I'll have plenty to fill my (and my kids) time; and judging by the recent weather report a third of that will be shoveling snow. :) If nothing else, it gives me more time to squirrel away some more cash and work on my Nexo MOC idea.
  3. At work, so I have only scanned this thread, but I found a visual size chart on this wiki after a bit of web searching. Thought it might be a helpful reference. http://pirates.hegew...hips_basic.html Using number of mast and decks seems a pretty simple and straight forward way of looking at this to me, as number of guns/crew seems something that is both design and collection dependant. And as I think the KISS principle should be adheared to on this, here's my take: SLOOP (Gunboat, ketch): single deck, single mast - > Trading post ship, Islanders catamaran CORVETTE (Sloop Of War/Snow/Schooner): single or 1.5 decks, two masts - > Caribean Cruiser, Brickbeards Bounty FRIGATE: two or mostly 2 decks, three masts -> Imp. Flagship, BSB w/ deck mod BATTLESHIP (Ship of the line/Galleon): more than 2 decks, three or more masts -> MOC My two Corrington coins
  4. He's simply a troll. He's now desperately trying to engage people with his comments questioning their likes. However the mods are letting him do it, so simply try to ignore him and he'll hopefully move on eventually. I like how you achieved the same aesthetic. Nice job.
  5. Having finally seen the Robohorse/cycle, put me down for #team lance It's gonna be a good year for me... and the kids too I suppose. :)
  6. I have to tip my hat to Lego marketing team. The 'got to get them all' collecting instinct is nicely tied into the ancillary products with those shields. "Clever girl" /wallet gets eaten Btw, does anyone know how you can set it up to automatically ignore someone's posts on this forum?
  7. I still recall the day my father brought us that set back from Europe. A Lego set come with actual weapons was a huge deal for us and started a life long love affair. Of course my brother and I fought over who got to be the Black Falcon knight. ;)
  8. This may come off as a bit harsh, but I am really curious about something. Lego produces a Castle-Space hybrid theme and vocal minority disapproves of it being in the Historic Theme sub-forum. They lobby the mods for weeks and the introduction thread is moved to the Acton an Adventure sub-forum. I'm fine with that tbh as it doesn't "fit" perfectly in any pre-existing box and because it has no bearing of my enjoyment of upcoming X-Mas purchases. Though it did colour my opinion on the Classic Castle community a bit (I have jokingly said I plan to lobby the mods to have the "Historic" sub-forum renamed to the "Non-girl classic castle with certain randomly permitted fantasy bits"). What I fail to understand is why the lobbyist continue to regale us with their reasoning on why they won't buy into Nexo Knights and comparing it to previous Castle waves. If it is that important to have everything its proper place, should you not start a new thread back in the Historic forum to do this, as Classic Castle has no place in the A&A subforum?
  9. If that's the case, shouldn't LOTR have been "exiled" to there as well? I don't recall discussing orcs in my history class. Frankly by your definition, it should only be classic castle, k2, and pirates in here. :) I do agree Action would be a better fit mind you, for the sake of 'community harmony' if nothing else. Some of the reactions seem to be a bit over the top. Anyway, put me down in the camp of looking forward to Nexo Knights. I plan on building some tracked castles for my Crusader and Black Falcon armies, if nothing else. I think battling rolling fortresses is a neat concept.
  10. As a father of a 8 year old girl, the female eagle character from Chima (Eris?) was a huge part of her interest in that product line. Also as a father of a 4 year old boy, I distinctly remember him turning up his nice at the 2 female lions in the Lion Tribe troop box. He promptly traded them to his older sister, regardless of any cajoling on my part to accept this minifigures. So I see both sides here on this gender debate. I don't envy the line Lego has to walk. Btw, as an AFOL parent I dread having to watch any Nexo Knight cartons. The Chima one had me wanting to claw my eyes out.
  11. Well done! I loved the building designs.
  12. I think I'd start with the present pirate ship as a base. Then take a look at the instructions for the OOP Imperisl Flagship (10310?) and use that for ideas on what extra bricks you'd need to extend it and put main deck on. Then finally use Bricklink or Lego parts order to acquire those parts. Assuming you get the present ship for $100, that leaves you with $80 before shipping to truly make it your own. I'm presently starting a similar process with a 95% complete Caribean Clipper I got last year. I found a little too 'stubby', and extending by a hill section is turning out to be a fun little project.
  13. The synopsis diary/timestamp idea seems like a great solution to the barrier faced by late coming, curious builders like myself. I know it seems silly to veterans, but GoH can be rather opaque at first glance. It takes a couple of hours of drilling down to really start getting a feel for what has happened previously. This idea could only help in that regard. My 2 bricks.
  14. Not so much a rumour, but Toys R Us Canada just put all the Pirates line a 20% off this week. Trying not to read anything into it, but figure I'd share the info all the same.
  15. Picked up this set on the weekend with a 20% off coupon. Came with the proper Capt head and ,more importantly, no visible hull gap. Not sure what to make of it as I had been expecting the gap flaw.
  16. It turns out there old brown mast bricks and they tend to be far more reasonable and are slow close in colour you cannot really tell. I'll try to post a pic of my 95% "Bricklink" Flagship. One bit of advice. The 4 mast bricks which sit on top of the 3 masts and front spar all connect with technic rods. But there are two designs of the piece: one where the rod hole is an 'x' and one where it is a '+'. You want the latter, so make sure you grab the right one.
  17. That is a very impressive build. Were it not for the fact I can barely move after a long weekend of house painting, I'd be digging into my bricks right now having been inspired to do something in the same vein.
  18. Great idea and execution.
  19. Sabre Island was the only set (other than minifig packs) from the Pirates line I had when I was a child, so that would be my nostalgia vote. Having just assembled a Imperial Flagship 10210 to 95% completion and a BSB, I'm torn over which is my true favourite presently. The flagship hull is gorgeous but I prefer the BSB mast structure. 1st world problems :)
  20. A little late commenting, but your write-up had me chuckling out loud when I read it just now. Well done.
  21. When news of this first broke, I was dead set to play Corrington. However, I find myself reconsidering as Olean and Pirates are also appealing and my collection supports these two better tbh (I only own 4 redcoats compared to a dozen old school blue coats). So my vote was Corrington, but I can easily slide to another faction for the sake of balance. Well, except for those money grubbing Dons of Eslandola! :)
  22. Well done! Had me chuckling.
  23. I like it. Eslandola was always going to suffer a bit from the lack of a true solider print, but I think that one captures a good look. Question: Is the bayonet an after-market piece or is it constructed out of existing bricks? Or is it possibly Playmobil? Finding decent bayonets is the one of my little side projects on the go.
  24. I've just started assembling my Bricklink accumulated IF. It took me about a year to find everything, and I only learned recently that the set is still listed on the Lego missing brick/pick bricks page. Finding that out sooner would likely have saved me time. The killer pieces are the red-brown masts and large plates. Both are unique to the set and therefore ungodly expensive, to the point where it would be cheaper to buy the complete ship itself even with the speculator's markup. This will be where you'll need to do your colour substitutions. Good luck.
  25. I like the direction this discussion took over the last few days. Either concept (1: Mysterious island/archipelago where things are more fantastical, 2: further you get from civilisation, the more fantastical it can get) is something I believe I'd enjoy being part of. As a fan of the CS Forester and P. O'Brian books my initial preference would have been historically driven only tbh, but I can appreciate how some would like to be more creative. As long as the world doesn't simply become a high fantasy-on-water, I'll be happy to join in as my first foray into "serious" MOC'ing.
