Calling Volunteers! Eslandola Vs. Mardier - Build Off
Kwatchi replied to Kai NRG's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Lol. A challenge was issued to a fictional character and when they don't respond the challenger declares themselves the winner? Is there plans to challenge a hurricane next? I understand the thinking but this turned a little silly now. I think there has been ample time for Mardier's champions to step up. The reason no one has can be speculated upon, but one might be that no one wanted to support a borderline attempt to overturn a negative MCRA. I would suggest a compromise. If the (previous) owner of the Fenix wants to MOC a rescue, let them post it here and the BoBS community can vote if he was successful or not. But as for the lost faction 5A... 'He's dead Jim'. -
Lovely ship and story. Could you add a picture of one of your 9 pounders if you get a chance? I've been struggling to create a build for a small weight gun that I like and what I can see of yours is promising.

[SR-FB1] - April '16 - Milton's Auction House
Kwatchi replied to Kwatchi's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
There might a recurring theme in my builds... but what do I know. If I ever bother licensing stuff, it'll likely end up small anyway based on cost alone, and it is much closer to 16x16 than 32x32 so that makes the most sense anyway. Frankly, I need my order of tiles to finally come in so I can start building bigger scenes. -

Considering the Eslandolians attacked a Sea Rats Trade convoy last month (prior to the raid no less), doesn't that make you pirates as well? -

Edmund Milton had been a minor partner for trade consortium headquartered in Belson. After a series of catastrophic events decimated their trade convoys, the company was delinquent on a number of loans. Rather than face Debtor's Prison himself, he fled with the firm's remaining wealth (damning his partners in the process) and bought passage eastward to the Terraversa colonies. He avoided the ports of the "civilized nations" for fear of recognition and established himself amongst the Sea Rats where his past would not be of concern. Using his contacts with smugglers and merchants of 'less than stellar conscience', he acts as a trade factor for successful pirate captains looking to sell off the unwanted loot from their most recent prize. The high value cargo (e.g. molasses, tobacco, bananas, rum, ginger) finds its way on to merchantmen heading westward, but the rest is sold at auction. It is at Milton's auction house that a less successful buccaneers might be able to stock up the necessities once a fleet comes in; everything from captured ships to slaves to pistol shot will eventually come through the auction floor and can be yours for the right price. Milton is devoted member of the old faith and begins every bargaining session with a prayer to the patheon of three. But rather than a gavel he uses the butt of a pistol to signal his decisions, because the gods alone can't protect you in such company. My brother got me watching Black Sails as of last week (only two episodes in; no spoilers you louts!) and it had me thinking about how Sea Rat captain's in BoBS would dispose of unwanted ships and loot in the absence of having an official prize court . So I dreamed this up. While it is as bit larger than 16 x 16, I can't decide yet if I'll consider it a small or medium commercial enterprise in game terms. Property: Small commercial Status: Licensed

Dear Governor Smaugton I have considered your request. It brought to mind a line of Milton's: "Better to reign in Hell, than serve in Heaven". All my best to you and yours, Captain Meloche -

Maybe it be easier to play into our lack of creativity for those ships The One Love The Two Cents - lost The Three Pigs :) -
To be perfectly honest, if this turns into a GoH overnight I won't bother participating anymore. Don't get me wrong: I am hoping to use the feedback received to improve my future builds, but at the moment most of my work is done over an evening or two once the kids are asleep. This is something I'm doing to unwind after a long day, not to impress judges, and improve my knowledge of building techniques over time in the process. I had never used a SNOT technique before last month and now I studying Capt Greenhair's notes on shipbuilding; things I'd never would have done if not for my joining BoBS/EB community for the sheer fun of it. You want a prime example of casual improvement: look at GulagUrag's first ship versus his second ship. Had his first ship simply been rejected out of hand, do you think he'd have stuck around? Having said that, I understand some of the highly skilled builders would like to see the standard raised. Sir Stig's stuff amazes me very time he posts (sorry for trying to raid Bardo btw; nothing personal, just business). I personally can't attain that level right now (skill and collection wise) but I want to eventually. And I agree there should be an avenue to showcase that talent. Perhaps the Challenges should be the avenue for this, where entries need to approved prior to being accepted for submission and the in and/or out of game reward is something significant to reflect the effort. Maybe even a "Hall of Fame/Best of BoBS" sticky with the winning/worthy entries. TLDR version:An arbitrary committee rejecting submissions is a bad idea to me. Challenges become a strict showcase of skill, with significant reward attached, is my proposed solution. TLDR TLDR version: stick = bad, carrot = good

I'll echo the others in that I love that pipe. Very well done room décor as well.

This is a very fine accomplishment Maxim. I'm still in the initial Bricklinking (yes, it can be verb) stages of my two decker. Give me 6 month and you'll have a proper dance partner. It will likely take that long to save up the license fee anyway.

Previous installment in the storyline Upon returning from Bastion alongside Amara, Captain Meloche agreed with his subordinates assessment and declared the area suitable for establishing their clandestine base of operations. It offered a suitable cove off a bay for use as a harbour and the dense jungle surrounding the beaches would allow for a quick disappearance in the event a nation should decide to confront them with a sizable force. However, while it was a secret now, Meloche knew that the location of this new lair would eventually spread; regardless of threat, a sailor's tongue tended to loosen in the presence of rum and warm company. So precautions must be taken lest they be caught unawares. Master Gunner Aron Fox was given a detail and ordered out into the jungle. There, on the small rise near the mouth of Charlatan Bay, he set up a small battery of 12 lb long guns, cleverly concealed in the dense foliage. Without a working lumber mill as yet in the nascent colony, a series of gambion baskets were quickly constructed and filled with locally mined surface rock to protect gun crews against return fire. And as an added measure, the cunning Mr. Fox built some small, mud brick forges, which he had worked day and night in order to keep his shot red hot. While this added an extra degree to labour (as well as safety concerns) to the harbour sentries' duties, the chance to ambush an incoming ship with cannon fire capable of lighting sails & rigging or firing a powder magazine made it well worth it to the ever laughing sniper. This may be licensed in the future as a small (and extremely frugal) fort.

I think that is only half of it. The EGS rules encourage rapid expansion of colonies with the licensing rules of 2/3 per month, so those playing the economic game will obviously feel obliged to push to that limit which means rushed projects in abundance. If the monthly property licensing limits are reduced, the personal ship limit reduced, and the mayor's pay eliminated or reduced, I think you'll get better results. This might have to be applied retroactively mind you so that early adopters are not given to much of a head start. Having said that, we're only 2.5 months in (I started a month late myself). Personally, I know that my collection is lacking in certain bricks required to produce polished MOCs (e.g. earth tones, tiles, classic style windows and doors, ship bits) but Bricklink/B&P orders only arrive so quickly. That should be taken into consideration this early into things.
