  1. I'm 13, hardly a kid anymore. I was still thinking about when I was in paris the other week and I was on European S@H. -l2k- 13 is still a kid (physically) ;-) My Bar Mitzvah is this Saturday, I'll be entering manhood ;-) -l2k- Ah-HA! So you're only 12! Unless you had your Bar Mitzvah after your birthday, which is possible. But still, 13 is young, if we went by all the old traditions girls your age would be having babies!
  2. I know I'll get killed for saying this, but I'd buy one just for the parts...
  3. Yup, I remember an old catalog where a member of blacktron was escaping the Magnetron base...or something along those lines. That's as close as you got to a "storyline" back then anyway, and it worked fine.
  4. I thought you voted for number 1, as there was only one other vote when I voted for number two, and there was one vote for each one and two, and the first posted said he posted for number two... Anyway that's what I was getting at in the other topic we were talking in. That you don't need SNOT for a MOC to be great, and that the common idea that it's NEEDED is what bothers me, as plenty of great MOCs are SNOT-free. Now I wonder who voted for number 1 :-P And I agree, the better builder will employ it when appropriate as there are many cases something can be done just as easily with regular techniques.
  5. I'm confused though, wasn't your argument in the first place that all great MOCs use SNOT?
  6. No boundries? There are no boundries with any line of LEGO product. Just because the box says Star Wars, Exo Force, Harry Potter or Knight's Kingdom doesn't mean you are limited by what you can build. As Sting observed, Star Wars provides tons of bricks that are useful in MOCing a Spaceship/station of your own design. There are hundreds of original non-Star Wars torsos and heads out there which can easily be used to make a colourful crew of astronauts. I guess I can understand that some people feel some nostalgia for the lines they grew up with, but to suggest that a licence actually hampers what you build is beyond comprehension. Bricks are just bricks. Many can be used for any MOC in any theme. The one thing Star Wars does give spacers more than any other line is a steady flow of bricks that can easily be incorporated into an awsome array of Space MOCs. And that's a good thing, isn't it? Later. Actually, everything was done for the kids to be creative on the old lego sets : alternate models, huge displays of lego sets into the catalogues. Now they only present the models one by one, no alternative model is proposed on the back of the booklet *wacko* Thankfully they brought that back in a limited fashion with Vikings, they had a great display on the instructions and boxes like the old days :'-)
  7. My opinion pretty much mirrors Jipay. While I view SNOT as very useful in a variety of situations, it's by no means, in my opinion of course, necessary. I've seen many MOCs that are great AND SNOTless. Of course it's very handy for certain things.
  8. That's where I got the impression you were calling the be-all and end-all, because that's what was heavily implied. I'm not trying to say that it isn't a valuable technique, I'm just saying that it seems like people make things more complicated with snot, that they could do without it just to have SNOT and say they used it. Like I said though, I use SNOT sometimes (it's more valuable in space MOCs, and less so in my castle MOCs), but I just see it as the "in-thing".
  9. What odd links?
  10. Well, there went ten seconds of my life that I'll never get back :-|
  11. The date is telling me not to bother clicking the link <_<
  12. I'm 13, hardly a kid anymore. I was still thinking about when I was in paris the other week and I was on European S@H. -l2k- 13 is still a kid (physically) ;-) Force? Maybe it's the way you're whining about it that's keeping people away...and talk of force is talk for the chamber :-/ Maybe nobody has happened across the sets to give you? Don't think that just because nobody has responded that everyone is ignoring you and has it in for you, it's very possible nobody has come across them, or possibly another reason. I forgot, but you said E-bay in that post, what about bricklink? Did you mention that? (it's been awhile since I read the whole thread) Anyway, just learn patience, you won't die if you don't get them this second, maybe that's why people don't "take kids seriously" :-P I understand wanting a set SOON though, so bricklink isn't a bad choice, or just wait for someone to come across the set, or just wait to find a good deal on E-bay, they DO come up sometimes ya know ;-)
  13. A piece that fits on over the neck maybe? Lego 18+ :-P
  14. SNOT is simply another tool in the average LEGO builder's arsenal. Where appropriate, it may allow for greater detailing, making your MOCs more striking. I have rarely, if ever seen a truly great builder who doesn't use SNOT extensively. Its use may not be obvious, but that is only a testament to the quality of the MOC. Using SNOT is not about creating a specific asthetic; its about enhancing detail where appropriate. In short, SNOT is NOT overrated. Later. This is where I disagree. I believe a great builder can make somehing "great" using even simple pieces, with or without SNOT. And calling the use of SNOT as the only testament to the quality of a MOC? So a MOC can't be of high quality unless it uses that technique? Sure, it may look nice when used appropriately, but it isn't necessary. It's the "in" thing so-to-speak, where every MOC "needs" it to be good, but the true testament to the quality of a MOC is different for everyone. I'm sure there are plenty of MOCs that you'd like, that I think are not that great, and vice-versa. The only thing a MOC "needs" to be great is a good builder. SNOT is a tool, a tool that may or may not be used to create a quality MOC. I think the statement that you "need" SNOT to have a quality MOC speaks for it being overrated itself ;-)
  15. Well, they're all in the same basic family. Black and gold/yellow, I'm sure you can see the trend there ;-)
  16. I think they included all those "gold" (what you called yellow) bricks in the Batmobile to match the black/gold pattern on batman's torso. That's fine with me, black and gold are my university's colors ;-)
  17. I love the whole thing *wub* The snow, the way the steep hill is made, everything! So detailed...hm, any idea why the island the statue is on is SNOT instead of a more normal way?
  18. While a valuable technique, I think it's getting overrated, as if nothing of merit can be built without some SNOT. That's not the case, you only need SNOT if you're going for certain looks, others look fine sans SNOT.
  19. I voted for China. Great sets (as mentioned), great figs AND parts (gotta love the lance) Egypt would be Second on the list for the awesome parts (coffin, detailed printed bricks, pharoh's head dress, etc) Third on my list would be india (gotta love the scimitars)
  20. Bruce Wayne has black hair :-P I'm guessing that white thing is a headband or something...at least that's my explanation for a white strip across half his head ;-) It's really only like that to make the mask work, though having a white strip and eye-level on the back of the head, and a smaller cowel would've been a better idea
  21. That is the difference, besides replacing I think one red brick with a black one on that arm, earlier in the thread someone suggested it, so he just got them off BL and added them on.
  22. The old pirate shooting cannons shot the little 1x1 cylinders, those could easily choke a child, or get in an eye. The technic cannons shoot huge rubber-tipped projectiles with long tails, much safer.
  23. Very simple, yet very effective. I like the classic castle elements (I just wish I had them :'-( ) Is it possible to show the spiral staircase? Maybe adding a bit more detail would be nice, but as it stands it seems like something that would be an old Lego set. Also, maybe get a turban from the Orient sets?
  24. What's the point of just two sets, anyway? Wouldn't it make more sense to just put out a full line of sets, or just cut it? Two sets...really makes no sense...
  25. If only I had that kind of time...
