Although I'm far more pumped for Galaxy Squad, I can't deny the appeal of this theme (and the new pics aren't helping me resist!). The color schemes are very fresh. I really enjoy the multiple factions, it lends itself to favoritism (which is great for the kiddies). At first I didn't like the Eagles very much, but after looking closer, I think they are my favorite! I'm actually somewhat interested in the story, as well. Lots of potential here.

Exactly. The theme is clearly meant to take place in outer space, judging by the vehicle designs and minifigure designs as well. The exact storyline isn't very clear at this point, other than the obvious alien invasion premise. Besides, the two locations aren't necessarily mutually exclusive. This is about Galaxy Squad, a team of specialists who are taking the fight to the aliens. Perhaps the main invasion is on Earth, but the Squaddies are bringing the fight to space?

Somewhere between $29.99 and $39.99 sounds about right.

In order for this to be even possible, we would need to distinguish what is "canon" and what isn't. I would say that a lot of the LEGO Magazine comic crossover threads would need to be considered not cannon, since it makes zero sense (unless indeed, everyone in LEGO Space is an alien). There DOES seem to be some kind of timeline based on the technology alone. Life on Mars -> Mars Mission -> Space Police -> 90's Space seems to be a pretty safe conclusion in terms of chronological order.

I find it odd that the red faction doesn't seem to have their own set. Just a few extra figs and parts in the Warp Stinger set. To me that hints heavily of a second wave...
-
Shame that the rumors of LEGO reviving Ice Planet turned out to be false. The concept art that we found was absolutely fantastic.

You sir have made my day. I seriously want them all. The Swarm Interceptor is boss, as is the Warp Stinger. I even think the Space Mantis looks better like this. And of course, the Vermin Vaporizer is looking stunning as always. Good job LEGO. My inner child thanks you sincerely.

Well, the "Mantis" bit is clearly referring to the vehicle, not the alien piloting it.

I think for the Bug Obliterator we can realistically expect $79.99 USD. The other sets are a bit tougher to call, but this theme shouldn't be ridiculously priced like Star Wars.
-
This will be excellent for Donkey Kong MOCs.
-
Sounds like TRU prices to me.

I actually REALLY like the purple "insect" pods. They remind me of The Collectors from Mass Effect 2. Very collectable (pun intended).
-
I'm still not in love with the Bug Obliterator like I am with the other sets. It feels a little clunky to me. It's not bad though, and chances are I'll wind up getting it regardless. Thanks Grogall!!

For me, it's the Ultra-Drill Walker. I think it's the 7066 of the Mars Mission line (despite it's cliched name). I'm still in love with that set.

I really think it's the best four-wheeled Space model since the Mega Core Magnetizer. The only one that came close was this, and it suffered from a handful of very unfortunate design flaws. I'm hoping against hope that his won't be a "one-and-done" theme. It just has SO much potential for expansion.

I meant only a week from first pics to release. But, yes, that's still ridiculous!
-
That is exciting indeed! Rather strange how after months of literally no news about this theme, we get tons of pics and a FULL RELEASE in only a week! I barely have enough time to get properly excited!

LEGO seems to be opting for collect-ability this time around... exclusive figs are pretty heavy in this theme. You're right, army-building would be pretty difficult with GS, but remember that we may yet get some polybags.
-
Possibly, but I don't think we've gotten a very clear shot of the red android yet.
-
Whatever you say buddy. Lol. Anyway, I'll be keeping a vigilant watch on my local TRU for signs of these puppies in the US. Although I have to wonder why there only seem to be sightings of the same three sets... I guess it could just be a fluke.
-
If you look at the minifigures in the reviews, you can see they're pale orange/green. The ships themselves don't seem to be, but the figs are (much like ADU).

Ludicrously oversized machine guns don't really qualify as "artistry" in my book. Well, to each his own. There's nothing wrong with action figures, but in Exo-Force's case, it resulted in some pretty bare-bones designs. I feel like Exo-Force was a little less apologetic. I know Manga does actually look a lot like Exo-Force, but the minifig designs (with spikey green hair straight out of Dragonball Z) seemed incredibly forced to me. FYI, I actually did like several of the Exo-Force sets, but as a theme I really wasn't much of a fan. Probably because I've been wishing for a Western-style Mech theme for years, and when I heard we were getting something similar, I was beyond excited. Then I realized it wasn't going to be MechWarrior so much as Gundam. One of the biggest disappointments for me. On a more positive note, I think the mech included with the Vermin Vaporizer looks BOSS.

I'm also loving the trans-lightblue weapon accessories the robots are equipped with. This is rather unprecedented! The green robot in particular is decked out with trans-blue weapons, especially that printed shield. The androids might be my favorite part about this theme.

...apparently I did. If your idea of thematic complexity is horrendously stereotyped Asian mecha (complete with spikey hair and screaming angry faces)... I could recommend you some authors. Also, the set designs were not complex at all, they were skeletal and bare-bones most of the time. Some exceptions here and there, but the bulk of the theme definitely suffered from some action-figure-itis. It wasn't my thing, at any rate. As for those reviews... good god I didn't think the Vermin Vaporizer could look any better, but it is fantastic with the mech attached to the back of the vehicle! This is legitimately Mega Core Magnetizer quality. Absolutely loving it. The Bug Obliterator looks nice close up, as well. I'm more positive on the set now than I was before, although I'm still irked by that splitting function (makes the back look unnecessarily bulky, which is a real shame considering how sleek the rest of the craft is). I'm sure that I'll be buying all of these. I haven't been this hyped up for a LEGO theme in years.

I also think that there are a LOT of hints that this is it for NinjaGo. We have a brand new theme, Chima, taking it's place, and NinjaGo's been around for a pretty decent amount of time. Where else would it go from here? The theme is ending on a strong note instead of a whimper, which is more than can be said for a LOT of LEGO themes. Count your blessings folks.
