Well, it's possible that we'll see them on some store shelves in December, as that does seem to happen a lot.
-
It definitely depends on your LEGO collecting style. I usually just buy sets with designs that I like - I'm not much of a modder. So the Hypersonic F***ING SHOOT EVERYTHING ship was something I was happy to skip. I just hope Galaxy Squad is up to snuff. It can't be as bad as MM wave 1...
-
Ah, I see what you mean. Well, that could be the case. I'm just getting impatient - all of these other themes have me too hyped for 2013.

Well, now I've had some time to let this theme "sink in", and with some better pictures I think I'll go ahead and give some detailed thoughts... In short: the sets are growing on me. I LOVE this set. It's a low price ponit, awesome wing pieces, neat design and fantastic minifigure. Even if I don't buy into the whole Chima deal, I'll probably pick this sucker up. What's the theme here? Ravens? "Dark" eagles? Whatever, it looks great. This is also one of my favorites from the theme. Low price point is great, and a pretty neat design overall - I'll even forgive the use of the giant "Power Miners" wheels because of the new color. I like the croc figure; however, the (lion? tiger?) figure is probably my least favorite out of what we've seen thus far. Much too... Thundercats. Oh hell yes. I LOVE this set. FANTASTIC design, awesome minifigs and just an amazing overall look. Why don't we get more Wolves? This is by far my favorite. I can't even think of a criticism right now. A little bit "meh". I like the cockpit, but the rest of the model isn't too eye-grabbing for me (although the engine on the main body is a nice touch). Great figs though. Now that's better. I love the idea of the set and the execution is pretty good. Again, not a showstopper, but not bad either. Probably my least favorite set here. It's just so... skeletal. Reminds me unpleasantly of Exo-Force. Also, crocs with ray guns? Goodness. The only possible reason I would pick this up is for the fantastic olive-green parts. Otherwise, I'm unimpressed. It looks like a squashed alligator. However, I wish we could get a better look at the figs; they look to have potential. All in all, this theme is a nice surprise. It's fresh, and definitely distinct from NinjaGo - I take back what I said earlier. I'm not yet certain if I'll be getting these sets, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted. That wolf-truck... man. That would look so awesome on display.

Give it some credit... this is one of my favorite Space sets of all time. But I agree, there was a lot of room for improvement.
-
Cite your source please... "limited availability" isn't too common for an entire theme...
-
A whole wave of leaks have emerged and it seems that Galaxy Squad is nowhere to be seen - I'm pretty much sold on the idea that this'll be a Summer wave.
-
The A-Wing is incredible! I might have to pick that up, I've been wanting an A-Wing for ages. I also like the quad-walker thing, for the build alone. I don't know what it's from.

Wow, I'll be honest, I'm not that impressed by these. I see what they're going for but it doesn't hold much interest for me at all. It's just as well, since the 2013 Star Wars sets look fantatsic...

That might be true for the people around here, but keep in mind that LEGO's primary market are kids and parents who probably couldn't tell the difference between the two. Having both themes release in the same season just seems like an odd move. And, while it's true that they'd be competing eventually either way, when a line launches there's a certain emphasis on the newness of it to drive early sales. I'm no marketing expert (business admin major) but I'm sure that would have a negative impact on the success of both themes.
-
I feel like a January release would mean the theme would have to compete with NinjaGo, which is essentially marketing suicide...
-
A few low-quality thumbnails have been leaked, but that's all. I have a hunch that this is a summer theme, and that being the case, a full reveal is pretty far down the line.
-
If this isn't a Summer theme, I think we should realistically start seeing catalog leaks around December the latest. I'm eager to see pics as well, since Space could really use some love. Alien Conquest hardly counted as a Space theme, and it was terribly short-lived.
-
Yeah... while those sets left a lot to be desired, I really don't know if they deserve to be called the worst sets ever.
-
They really don't look that bad to me. I like them a lot better than the snake-people sets.
-
I'd say the completely immobile "roller skate" legs count as a pretty serious design flaw... but I just thought it beared mentioning since it's one of the more oddball footnotes in the Space theme. I have one more contender to add: this massive disappointment deserves mentioning as it was one of my most anticipated sets from Space Police and wound up being the worst. So many flaws with the design, I don't even know where to begin. It's doubly disappointing since Space Police 3 is one of my all-time favorite Space themes.
-
I think it's safe to say that NinjaGo's massive success was a little surprising for LEGO, so they had to move quickly to capitalize on it. You do make a pretty good argument. However, I don't think the designs look very rushed. I think it's more likely that LEGO is trying to make a few extra bucks off of the brand equity they've created with NinjaGo before launching Legends of Chima, which seems to be a high priority for them. They don't really need a boatload of functions to sell the sets if they're only really marketing to the fans they've already gained since the line launched.

I'm surprised Roboforce hasn't been mentioned yet: http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=2151-1 Probably the biggest afterthought in the whole Space library. The line only had four sets, and introduced some very strange new molds. Some of the printed parts are very rare and quite cool (especially trans-neon diver helmets), but the robot designs are pretty bizarre. The Robo Stalker, at least, is kind of cool.

So I was browsing the "worst set ever" thread in the Star Wars forum and thought that us true Spacers deserve one as well. There's been a lot of fantastic Space sets over the ages, but lets face is folks, there are some real clunkers out there. Anything's fair game; just try to avoid picking one of the countless $2.99 throwaway sets (like one of the "flying planks"), since they're not really designed for the wow-factor anyway. Stick to the "main" lines of sets if possible. My pick: http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=7691-1 I actually liked the Mars Mission line (particularly the second wave), but that set is just an eyesore. I was suckered into picking it up and trust me, it's much worse in your hands than it is on the box. Sound off! What's your vote for the worst Space set in existence?
-
Looking at the sets again, I find I actually quite like the Fire Robot - reminds me of Exo-Force, but in a good way. The Stone Warriors are cool (I like them better than snakes) but their vehicles are kind of weird. The Garmatron reminds me of a TMNT set. Since these are labelled "the final battle", I guess that's it for NinjaGo.
-
Hahaha, hardly! The wait from Life on Mars to Mars Mission was far, far longer. LEGO has been using Star Wars to fill the Space niche for quite some time; it's only recently that they've realized original Space themes still have marketing potential. There's a lot of stuff coming out in Winter 2013, so I wouldn't mind all that much if GS is a summer release. We'll see what happens, nothing is for certain - remember, Star Wars hasn't gotten any 2013 pictures either!

Lego Superheroes 2013 Rumours & Discussion
Algernon replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
I'm sure that's going to be a productive conversation. The scale of the set is a little underwhelming, but the designs themselves are honestly pretty nice. Plus, that price point is very appealing - I applaud LEGO for going out of their way to keep the set affordable. -
After taking a closer look at the sets, I gotta say that I'm tempted to pick some of them up (rare for me - never was a huge fan of HF). That said, the only ones that tempt me are Furno XL and Bruizer. Furno just looks awesome though, especially with that cape and mask. Bruizer appeals to me because I like the elemental theme he has, and the set is just nicely designed. I miss canisters though.
-
Wow. I have mixed feelings about these. For starters, they look nothing like LEGO. I only noticed that they were LEGO because I saw the Hero Factory logo. But on the other hand, the designs are really quite cool. I love the rock-like villian and the hero with a cape. I feel like this should be a brand new theme, without the HF plot. I might pick these up for my little brother this Christmas.

Hahaha, I like how all of the AFOLs are having poor reactions to this theme. I guess you chaps are all too old to like TMNT. For me, I think this is fantastic. The TMNT vibe is just right for LEGO, and I'm getting nostalgia looking at that bright-yellow colored vehicle. Lots of potential for cool designs, parts, and figs here. While I agree that the turtles themselves aren't jaw-dropping, LEGO's certainly done worse (clone wars figs anyone?) and it's more about the sets for me anyway. Can't wait to see the rest!
