See, everyone keeps saying that, but it was Ricecracker's idea, I think. -
Dr. Bloodbrick's Asylum - The Conclusion
JimBee replied to def's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Bastard moderator. Seriously, it says right there to never, ever, ever, include the Jester role. Ever. Everything I was going to say has pretty much been said already. I love the game, everything about it. The scum got lucky with the framings, but they were awesome anyway. After my death I had suspected Arjay, Rufus, and Scouts. Indeed, I wish I would've stayed alive longer, and that Hinck would've contacted me. And why am I holding a shovel in the Garden picture? Digging my own grave? Seriously though, great game, def. Great pictures, story, roles, etc. etc. You don't need to win a mafia game to host one. And even if you still don't win one, I'd look forward to your next game anyway. -

*Cough*... what? Honestly, I hadn't expected Bloodbricks to end so soon. I'm pretty much ready, but I'll need to finish up my entry for Winter Break so I can take it apart and put my game set back together. Although, I suppose there's no harm in starting sign-ups now. I was going to wait until the weekend, but it makes no difference. It will also give me time to contemplate the roster. So, sign-ups will be up shortly. -
Looks good, I like the ramshackle look to it. The crooked bricks help with this. Nice detail with the snake pinned to the door, too. It doesn't look like it's over 1000 pieces, though, well below that, even.

No no no. God. Why does every good movie franchise have to be screwed up? I loved the Matrix films (just look at my avatar), at least the first two. Why, oh why do they have to mess it all up? I suppose they'll answer the unanswered questions at the end of Revolutions, but if there was one good part about that movie, it's that they weren't answered. I suppose I shouldn't be so pessimistic, I liked Indy 4, so why not these. But, I will keep my expectations at a minimum. I wonder if Joel Silver will have a part in it? And Hugo Weaving? And, Bill and Ted part 3? There was a second one? The futuristic Robin Hood sounds interesting as well.

It keeps your hands clean so that the bricks remain in a new condition. As for me, I always build on the floor. I don't know why, it hurts like hell, but it's just a habit. I also like to build in front of the TV, which usually doubles or triples the building time. I always keep the bags separate when I pour them out, but never sort them.

Good work here, I don't believe I've ever seen old brown and new brown mixed before, it's a good combination for something like this. I do have to agree, though, it does have a striking resemblance to Geertos's entry. I believe he did scrap that entry, but still, you could've made it a little more original. At least with the dementors.

Wow, this looks wonderful, Dix. The roof gives a lot of character to it, and the "cluttered" interior reminds me a lot of the HP buildings in the early movies. A few nitpicks that I have, though. First, I really think the greenery on the outside is too distracting and detracts from the winter-y feel and dark colors of the rest of the building. Also, the front windows remind me too much of the Grand Emporium set, maybe replace the gold studs with another color? And finally, this might just be the angle, but the chimney looks weird in comparison with the slant of the roof. I know it's supposed to look funky, as per many HP buildings, but maybe if you tried flipping it, so that it slants inward, it would compliment the shape of the roof better. Oh, that seems like a lot, sorry. I do think this is a great entry so far, also in my top 3.

Thanks for the feedback so far, everyone. It really helps that I can make my entry better. Yeah, this will be especially difficult because the inside is so small. I'll probably end up with shelves lining the walls, a service desk, and some barrels full of candy in the front. I may also have to remove some of the dark brown tiles so that these pieces can stay in place. Play with the lights how? If you mean the pictures look unrealistic, I'd agree, because I took these with varying amounts of sunlight (clouds). I was forced to edit out the shadows that the exterior shots had. I also need a new backdrop. Yes, those are icicles. I will add some white slopes for snow, thanks for the suggestion. I think the pictures might be a bit brighted out due to the sun, causing the tiles to appear more vibrant than they really are. You might still think they don't match, but let me know what you think when I retake the pictures this weekend in more stable environment. I actually didn't realize how much that stuck out until you pointed it out. Unfortunately, the only arches I have that would fit the door are light bley, and I like the stone pattern of the door on the outside. I'll try to cover this up when I work on the interior. Ah, good point. I know exactly what you mean. Adding a walk outside will also be a good opportunity to add snow. Thanks for the suggestion.

WINTER BREAK ENTRY: Ministry of Magic: Magic is Might
JimBee replied to Sirius Black's topic in LEGO Licensed
Looks great, very movie accurate. I like what you did with the arch and the polygonal buildings. It's too bad you couldn't use more pieces though, I think it would've looked even better with multiple stories for the buildings. Do you plan on adding on to it after the contest? -
Wow, looks great Morten and KimT. The bunker/ platform is huge, and the greenery is good. I really like those trees that use the spikey palm leaves. Only thing and I think you said you were going to do this, is like you always say - needs leveling/ landscaping. Congrats on the baby, by the way.

The most famous magical candy store in the world, Honeydukes is located in the quiet town of Hogsmeade near Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It's filled to the brim with spellbound sweets. It has three floors, and includes and underground passageway to Hogwarts. The outside is decorates with mellow-colored bricks and panels, and features a cross-section view of the cellar. Students and other passerby gaze into the store window that displays dishes of fudge and barrels full of other magical treats. From Chocolate Frogs to Every Flavor Beans, Honeydukes has it all! The back looks rather bland... ...nut opens up to reveal the inside! Hermione, Malfoy, and Oliver Wood browse the array of candies Honeyduke's has to offer while the owner observes quietly behind the desk. Beware of the Bogart in the attic! "Mischief Managed!" Gallery

Juan Pizarro, a Spanish conquistador, was born as a pure-blood in 1534, Spain. His parents were both wizards, and Juan was trained as both a wizard himself and as a Spanish soldier. Because of his "special skills", Pizarro rose quickly through the ranks. In 1560, he commanded a group of ships to sail to the New World, the Americas. This portrait portrays Pizarro stepping onto a beach of South America. Pizarro would go on to conquer new lands, using his magic to defeat enemies. He eventually died of disease in 1587 in what is now southern Mexico. Gallery

Well done, iamded. I never would've guessed. I loved your character, by the way, the random insertion of Spanish was hilarious. No me gusta! -

Thanks. If you're talking about the classic party game "Werewolf", then I guess I could say Werewolf Mafia just about as similar to it as any other mafia game played online. Actually, I think online Mafia came from this game. Well, I can't promise anything... -
Very, very sad news. I only knew Dieter from the Reviewers Academy, I believe we graduated at the same time. He was a helpful and friendly member, and I know he was a big help with C-P.com. He will be missed. My condolences to his friends and family.

Minfigures: When is there too much detail?
JimBee replied to mo123567's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I don't mind detailed printing, but reshaping any torso or head molds would cross the line. Well, maybe I wouldn't mind Arealight-style female torsos, but no way will I buy a Lego set again if the heads are changed. Back to printing, I don't really think there's an amount of detail that I wouldn't like. Even some of the super realistic decals we see from EB members fit fine with minifigs. I also like subtle details like face stubble and metallic zippers on jackets, that we see currently. -
I'm pretty happy about that, the only choice I would've preferred over Bane would be the Penguin. But who knows? Two-Face was a surprise to me in TDK, so maybe another villain could appear. ...No? In any case, I thin Nolan will be true to his word, as much as that sucks. IMO, these were the best Batman films, or at least TDK. It's a shame, and I wonder when a new director will step up to the plate.

Very cool! That play feature is awesome, is there any possibility that you could take a short video to illustrate it? I also like how the inside looks shabby, like in the books. Nice use of those brown grill pieces.

Grr. That was my entry! I was just about to finish mine, but I think this blows mine out of the water. Great entry, and good color choices. Dark tan especially. The windows and exterior are very well done. Mine also includes a trap door, although a little different than yours. Might I suggest adding some sort of floor pattern? It looks a bit plain right now.

Great topic! This one's more about me, but others might be familiar with it. Multi-Tasker: Buying Habits: Stock up on as much Lego as possible during the rare occasion that you visit a TRU or Lego store. Sorting Method: Invest in plastic collection containers, sort out all your pieces, and then dump them out again to make a MOC idea. Building Space: Wherever there aren't other projects laying around. Philosophy: Start a new project before you finish the first.

No idea on how much longer Bloodbrick's will go on, but it's down to about half of the players remaining. So a little teaser for the upcoming mafia game: The game will include 26 players. Very close to done, once I finish my Winter Break entry, the sets will be reassembled. And, special thanks to def for help on the banner. -
Looks a lot better, I have to say. The extra snow and hole on the roof add a lot to the rugged, worn down look. The only thing I would change is the base, the path leading from the house. It's neat, but I prefer a solid, square lawn. Just my opinion. Nice technique with the white teeth pieces, by the way. They make a convincing snow effect.
