Kaliphlin Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion
Kayne replied to Si-MOCs's topic in Guilds of Historica
My thought would be just to put some white tiles on top of the brown branches, and then just add some white round plates on top of the foliage. That should give a snowy feel, and you can pick and choose where the snow will sit on the tree, rather than just having it all white. -

So, does this mean that you are defecting to another guild? -

Wow gabe, I am looking forward to seeing that completed! That looks as though you may be able to take another win with this one! -
That is awesome! The height of the build really makes this a grand embassy on the scale of baseplates we worked with.

As a new member around here and in the AFOL community, I must say that ISC's MOC's and leadership over here has been a large part of me being able to get back into the hobby. I am glad to see that you will still be around here and still MOC'ing. Best of luck in all, that darn reall life always seems to get in the way of our hobbies!

Very cool! This has a great feel for both guilds incorporated into it.

Well, in the small spot in between each section you could use torches. That would add something that is not too flashy, but also fills in the gap. -
Love this build! So many nice little details, even an abandoned shield in the wither.

Well, first off it is a very cool idea for a build and has some great points to it. As for the tree, I have trying a weeping willow with those same blocky grey hinges. I think that it could work, but might just need to have more leaf pieces added in and strung together(almost free hanging) to cover some of the gaps. Very nice bridge and fortress wall! -

These embassies are really starting to come together! I'd like to see us win this challenge for sure. Since I completed my embassy, I am working on a free build right now. It will be on a 32 x 96 base, and it is going to be a crumbling fortress built into the great escarpment. I plan to have it partially crumbled and inhabited by a clan of mummies. -
Same with me, I had not seen this until today in the index. I love this tower, it is really original!

I agree with Derfel totally! That is a great representation for Nocturnus in Avalonia. In the embassy challenge, it was stated that there could be magical snow falling in the desert, etc. But, this takes the cake for me, the evil finiding its way into that serene scene is fantastic!
-
That is very cool! That is how I picture Nocturnus...lots of stone, little vegetation...wonderful!

I think you are talking about the tower in back with the tan and white incorporated at the top....I agree. In person it looks pretty cool. After I took the picture and looked at it, I thought "wow that does not flow as well as I thought!". Oh well....gives me something to work on now!

On the lush island of Moria, Avalonia lies Kaliph Moria. The embassy of the Kaliphlin Guild in the city of Moria. Built from the native resources of the area, but also with some sandstone imported from their homeland, the Kalihplin Guild strategically chose a location near an inland spring. Used to the rigors of the desert and the constant struggle for water, the Kaliphites felt this would be a stroke of genius. Of course, after living in Avalonia for a while, they realized that water is about as abundant as sand is in their home desert. Still, it made for a nice view, so the Kaliphites are still happy with their location! So, here is my entry for the embassy challenge. I am a bit disappointed with the pictures. My 2 year old destroyed my camera the other day, so this is with my backup digital camera. Here is the post in the Guild Main.. Right Here -

Saladus Al Juhtiv, leader of the Nahtämatu would like to present Dinin Do'Urden to the Games... Born a drow warrior to a powerful family, Dinin was cursed to a life as an unholy union of a drow and a spider. An undead creature spoken of in legend and known only as a drider. Dinin, of course wears the enchanted Mithril armor forged by the deep dwarves of the Underdark. He weilds twin scimitars made of adamantium and enchanted to remain sharp to split a hair that by chance falls on the blade.

I'm excited to see what Sir Blight brings to the games....plus his knightmare steed has such cute little eyes

Yup, last spring I went to the Legoland in Chicago, and it was the same way. Awesome stuff...but a ripoff. Luckily the the Lego store is across the street in the Schaumburg Mall, so we went there and loaded up! I was at Lego Store in Detroit today, since I had to drive over there for work. I was hoping for some tan, white or light bley jsut to add to what I have and help for future Kaliphlin builds....and they didn't have much of a selection today. They had the the flower stem, so I grabbed some of those, because you can never have too many of those. 1x2, they had in Lime Green, Green, Black, Red, Dark Bley and Yellow. 1x2 Reddish Brown Log Brick, 1x1 in Orange, Lime and Dark Bley. I can't remember all of the rest, but they had 4x4 tan plates and 2x6 tan bricks and that was it for tan I did get some of the 2x2x2 slopes in Light Bley and White which is nice. Also, I did grab some Series 6 Minifigs as well. I love that Bandit! -

So, my thought is that the tan bricks will look lighter in person than on LDD. That alone will make it more of a desert feel...unless you are using Dark Tan. The wood needs to be there, because of being in Mitgardia so there seems to be a good balance there. I think the tower in the background is what really feels Kaliphlin to me. But to really set it over the edge of course, the shops could all be figs and dates and snakecharmers and a turban shop, etc...that might do it -

So....with the addition of this tower as well, does that mean Kaliphlin will receive more Gold and maybe be in the #1 spot? -
Another beautiful build! That technique is very cool, I like how it uses the typical round wall technique with your own 1x1 round plate style.

@rogueangI really like that idea! So if I follow correctly, with the 5 votes you could vote for MOC's in any guild, or just your own?
