Star Wars - Executor - Darth Vader's Super Star Destroyer
mortesv replied to Jedi Micky's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Amazing work! As a big fan of the Executor I applaud your attention to detail. I'm also a big fan of your greebling - working on a model this size and scale you have really utilized the space beautifully! A few suggestions: I would consider moving the middle/back engines back a bit further to be more in line with the studio model. You could also move them a bit up by getting rid of some of the "thickness" under the hull. Also (and this is a very minor detail) the foremost engines should be tilted towards the center of the ship ever so slightly. But again, superb, frikkin jaw-dropping job! -
Just bought the 7194 UCS Yoda I dont really have any room for it, but it is one of the last official UCS sets I'm missing, so what the heck It has an interesting voxel building technique, where you build the model in layers. Should prove fun to build

What a beautiful moc! I would gladly pay 200euros for this set - although the the brick/cost ratio would be crazy Furthermore the mini Naboo fighter is absolutely superb - a have a soft spot for scale models  As cavegod also mentioned, that even though the set could be bigger it really shouldn't. This scale suits the detail of the real thing quite nicely CUUSOO here i come!

Got the 10225 (beautiful!) a long with the promo TC-14 (beautiful!) The 10225 was actually quite cheap compared to brick count and other Lego SW sets - in Denmark at least Still one of the most expensive places to buy Lego in the world though - must be all the international shipping costs... oh wait...

Obi-Wan's expression is priceless!

Looking good Bob! I have begun tweaking my Falcon even further - simply because I miss working on it If it turns out good I'll make another mod thread - note the 'if'
-
All characters and droids are instantly recognizable and have a very pure "Lego" charm. The composition of the scene is also very spot on Perhaps Lego should never have bothered making custom minifigs for the SW license? - just kidding of course, but it is surprising to see how well everything is conveyed without custom figs

Omg - a rancor sized ewok! Very we'll done! Are you doing a ewok sized rancor next??
-
Looking good You'll be done before you know it! But then you can tweak and mod it

You raise an interesting question. Some of the early UCS models are somewhat "primitive" by the standards today - but they still have a sense of nostalgia. I like to mod my UCS sets, but the earliest sets are too "off" and have too weird color schemes (also when looking at grey vs. bley) that modding makes little sense. I wouldn't mind lego re-making these sets in the future (I'm quite certain the will eventually), but I would like for them to "finish" before they start all over. For example am I much more interested in a Nebulon-B medical frigate or a Rebel Transport than a new X-Wing. However, I would imagine that Lego would look at the potential customers and choose to update a more well known ship rather than construct something for a niche. In the end I would probably by a new X-wing - although I think they should make the other models first.

They should focus on cleaning those dirty plates instead - unless you want them that way - they certainly look "banged up"

Thanks. From afar it is pretty notable - especially if you know the model I'll see if I can get a wide shot when I get better lighting Thanks - the mods are based with the 'true' Falcon in mind - and now I'm continuing the work - looking at Cavegod's suggestions Flattery will get you everywhere! - But if I continiue to mod it will the number go negative?! Yeah, I really like all those functional details on the Falcon - the more I can mimic on the model the better
-
@Mr. Man - you have a sick sense of humour! But you are right about the camera @Cave - Thanks for the suggestions - I'll pm you with a few questions I'm glad you like it! Let me know If you have any questions. - oh and did you notice my Superman?
-
Well, some of the changes a very subtle, but they are explained in the text However the changes may be more apparent if you look at the original set and compare them to my pictures

The 10179 is widely regarded as THE Star Wars Lego set (it’s in the banner of this very page for crying out loud ). It is also a very popular set to mod in various ways – most notably to create an interior, fill up with beautiful lighting or add new features such as an antipersonnel turret. Personally I think all these initiatives are great, but I was wondering if one could – and should - mod the actual exterior detailing of an already excellent set? It’s not like the set really needs modding (*cough ‘10221’), but hey, it’s Lego - so why not give it a try? There exist many Falcon MOCs out there and a few of them are even larger than the 10179 - and have different strengths and weaknesses compared to the 10179. However, I’m not trying to rebuild the set into a MOC, but simply research ideas of how to improve the existing. Below are some of these ideas: Due to the modular building technique used, the 10179 have some odd gaping holes. Most notably around the turrets and next to the cockpit. Here I have tried to close these holes: Next to the side hatches I also felt the ship could be “closed up” a bit more Like this: The 10179 sports beautiful detailing – especially in the engine section (hooray!). The “real” Falcon has a lot of piping which the 10179 have tried to mimic - with great results. However, it seems that when the designer got to the mandibles, mimicking piping wasn’t deemed necessary. I have tried to remedy that in the pic below – and to give the ship’s detailing a bit more “balanced” look. I have also moved the two prongs on the edge of the saucer more outward – more in line with the film model: I have also changed the dark grey 2x2 tiles with light grey 1x2 tiles. This is done to mimic the film model a bit more closely. Another easy tweak is the piping next to the dish – it leads nowhere: It should actually lead into the dish: The 10179 has some sweet detailing in its middle line, that cuts through the entire ship. You can see how the designer has interpreted the reference material. I have tried to add a little more detail by looking at reference photos as well: The turret base of the 10179 is done very symmetrical. This is the designer’s free interpretation, but I always felt it was a bit too neat for the “old bucket of rust”: Below I have tried to remedy this and also added some extra mechanical detail leading from the center slope onto the turret base – again based on the film models. When doing this mod I have tried to keep as much intact of the original 10179 as possible, by simply only “adding” bricks. A few places I have moved existing pieces and in one place – the turret base it was necessary swap pieces. Lastly some overall pics of the modded model: So what do you guys and girls think?

This looks like the beginning of something truly epic Nice wall detailing - are you going to fit the Falcon and an Imperial shuttle in there?

@Aeroeza I do not presuppose the viewer's perception as the 'factual' evidence because there can be none - at least as long as it is all conflicting - and that is my whole point. So even though you have observed that the ship may be supposed to be 34,8 meters in the production plans, it is not the illusion that is conveyed - and neither is 26,7meters and any other precise measure for that matter But please don't kill yourself!! However, it is not only pre-digital film productions that struggles with scale. In the latest Star Trek film they got this brilliant idea halfway through FX production that the Enterprise needed to be twice as long - to be more 'epic'. Thus half the effects shots convey a 270meter ship and the other half a 540meter ship. How big is the Enterprise then? Well the canon still says 270meters, but as with the Falcon, the on-screen length of the ship is caught in "fact" limbo. So when the on-screen illusion is not consistent I choose canon - and no off-screen "fact" can help the inconsistencies on-screen - . Canon is not the "right" answer but there is no right answer - no matter what measurement you believe the Falcon to have the Wookie will indeed get squashed in several of the morphing Falcon shots Conversely, with the Executor I'm more inclined to 'believe' the off-screen fact (17,6km), because what is on-screen is much more consistent and supports fact more uniformly. Oh, and MY conclusion is much better than yours @Bob, looking forward to your next update!
-
I Think it is too small - but why would you even consider that? The brick built cockpit looks so much better
-
A beatiful update! Your ship is coming along very nicely - and quite fast considering the circumstances under which it is built @Lobot: No I wasn't missing any words - I'm just trying to disagree with Aeroeza to keep our discussiong going. The more we discuss the more updates Bob will have to make to keep this thread on track... mmm updates...
-
Gloves or no gloves, it seems your argument is based on off-screen excuses. My point remains the same: either measurement would be equally “wrong” based on what the moviegoer actually sees. No matter what the creators behind the models/sets have hidden in their little heads or what historians can dig up, I believe it is what is on screen that counts. The movie is what it is and no excuses can help that, thus combining all on-screen evidence I conclude that the Millennium Falcon is a morphing TARDIS ship! Oh, and I think that using a printed dish for the model would be a horrible idea - instead I would go for a printed dish, which would be MUCH better!
-
This is a UCS, so I'd buy it no matter what However, I also think think that this looks like a very solid model. It is well thought out and have many interesting features - and seems to be without glaring compromises. I'm getting this on day one - I'll of course try to mod it as always
-
Looks great! Can't wait to see the skin! @Fuppy, I think I have about 20-25kgs of Lego, my GF weighs a bit more than that... However, I did not mean it literally, I was more a question of prioritizing time. Right now my GF thinks I'm using too much time with my Legos - so I'm not completely in balance....

Congratz on the new job Kim! I'm a total newbie here, but as a fellow Dane and growing up with Lego everywhere I cant even begin to imagine the impact of being offered a job at TLG. Mange gange tillykke! Hils alle i Billund fra os hos Eurobricks

[MOC] LEGO: Leia and R2-D2 (Tantive IV) 2nd Edition
mortesv replied to konze's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Very nice improvement! You have really nailed the look and the detail of the secondary hallway - I love the tubes Now you just need some black and red color for the next edition -
Yay, we got a update! For once I agree with Aeroeza - the printed pieces look nice Funny fact: the width of the cockpit is 1/7 of the width of the entire ship - does anyone want to dispute that?? PS: it is now proven it pays to behave like a spoiled kid
