  1. sorry to burden you again, Double T, i know you're doing all that's possible. but: do you have an agenda? something we can do, apart from spending a day in legoland (we'll i'd be in the brick shop all day :P ) after having an agenda, i'll be able to decide; you see, i've just been in legoland, so i've seen the place already, so i need something more before i'm able to convince relatives to "let me go" ;)
  2. dear collector, i wish you all the best with your petition, but i strongly disagree with your action: 1) more/new units of sets reduces price and that may not be in the interest of collectors, but a majority of AFOLs will appreciate it 2) if rereleasing sets means improving the sets by adding new/more minifigs and impproving the model than i'm all for it; it's your choice to buy or not to buy; if this improves the financial situation of tlc in the process, then i don't have any problem with that either. 3) i would, on the other hand, encourage tlc to continue with the rerelease of old units. Personally, i would love a rerelease a B-wing, A-wing, AT-ST,... in fact, many buyers did not have the chance to buy the product a few years ago, when it first was released and will now have that chance. Remember, a galaxy explorer was in production for many years, sw-sets are very often gone after 1 or 1.5 year. 4) there has been some discussion about the rerelease of the Maersk boat (perhaps this is the reason of this petition). Jake explained to the community why tlc decided to do that and also indicated that tlc will buy the ship back from any collector who feels betrayed... 5) Some other "rehashed" models like the new Snowspeeder, Millenium Falcon, Slave 1, and X-wing are, in my view, excellent models and provide the buyer with new possibilities to build new models of there own; and are improvements to the older versions. therefore, i will not sign your petition, but again, i wish you success
  3. You guys don't want it. It sucks. The sets aren't really NEW, and it's $40. I was about saying the same thing :-D how 'bout the computer program to design models. is that any good?
  4. this shouldn't even be about markets or market potential. it seems to me that they just picked 15 names from the list, and they probably looked for webmasters of some well-known sites first. in any case, none of these speak on my behalf... we don't even know what these people think. they don't present themselves on this forum,... as representatives they have no credibility what so ever...
  5. exactly... they're only representing themselves...
  6. wow!!! we only needed 24 pages of posts to go from rumours about new star wars sets to eating dusts and rice rituals in Paris... jee... i think our target is way beyond visual range here...
  7. i recognise the name Marc Sandlin. he used to have a great website, but i haven't seen any recent work of his, and the last stuff i saw was not his best ... the us leads... for some reason... No one from Asia either... they obviously didn't try to involve the entire world... and you're right: we don't get much info about these people or even the selection procedure... only 60 candidates... i don't think that's a major succes, do you? i mean, every 6 months 15 new guys? wow! it will take tlc just two years to get them all on board! en we still don't know what exactly it is that they're going to do... i'm also not running warm for this logo. many AFOL's associate minifigs with toys for children... not particularly what some of us would like to see...
  8. yeah yeah yeah, but is there a deadline?
  9. bricklink is the ideal free market, that, according to economists, doesn't exist in the real world. there's so much information on supply, demand and price that you can easily compare prices, price evolutions,... there are auctions too. but beware! it's extremely tempting! only men and women with nerves of steel survive there without buying anything... :P
  10. sorry if this is slightly off topic, but will the brickmaster program be brought to Europe as well? tlc said they would think about it, but i haven't heard anything about it since then...
  11. it's all in the way you choose to use bricklink. after all, it's like any other shop. some products are more expensive, some are cheaper. To me, some one who buys bricks/sets for parts, is the bricklink the best thing that can happen. i don't need rare figs, nor dor do i want the falcon or the galaxy explorer,... i just spend 60$ on bricks i need. If i buy a set of 60$ i will always get bricks i won't be able to use. for instance, the wookie attack is only interesting to me for the technic links. All the rest, including the minifigs, is useless... In that case, it might be wiser to spend the 40 euro or so on bricklink links. Especially if i wait a couple months, when the bricklink has been flooded with these sets. price of links will be going down... or i could just wait and buy the sandcrawler... by the way, didn't i just give you an example? 2 x 2 bricks are cheaper
  12. i think part of that color cost was paid buy Maersk. anyway, what you're saying is right. Red would limit the costs even more. and we know that the Maersk ship is success. so why doesn't tlc pick up the idea? hm... maybe a question for Jake? Perhaps kids wouldn't play with it? or too many parts? Even though they can easily replace the 1 x 4 bricks by 1 x 8 or more... i'd love to see a tanker or fishing boat in a maritime theme... :oo
  13. i just took another look at the maersk ship at lego.com... wow! i don't understand why tlc doesn't build more of these type of sets, without the exclusivity and "maersk" thing... they could sell those for only 80 euro, couldn't they?
  14. soccer... football... display model... in ANY case, please remove the "laser beam"! *sing* it's awful!!! *sing* *sing*
  15. and still they're complainig... :P
  16. perhaps you've gotten something else instead of a blue baseplate...
  17. that's is not entirely right. lego has to follow european law on transparency. Lego Belgium nv has to disclose her annual report to the National Bank of Belgium. they've done that, by the way. in fact, the public has the right to ask that information. you can even download that from there website, if you are a subscriber; see: http://www.nbb.be/PR/Exe/BA/BaDet.asp there are lots of sources for much more, unfortunately, you have to have a password to get access. very often a university has a licence for these things. i don't know what the judicial form of the lego group is, but Lego Belgium is a "public limited company", meaning, they HAVE to disclose annual reports... i don't think it's very much different from the rest of Europe...
  18. didn't you listen to the man? he's still looking for investors! ;)
  19. for this time, i have to agree with tlc. last few years i saw an inflation of new colors and the quality and quantity of bricks in specific colors were very often terrible. Some units of the HP bus, for instance, had three shades of purple instead of one and it's quite difficult to get a truckload of bricks in rare colors, so how can you use them in MOCs? sure, they could have talked to the AFOL community? but this group is so diverse, the interests of the members are so different... you got people building space, trains, star wars, sculptures, mosaics,... who would you talk to?
  20. they did say early March... i'm not really sure what you're expecting, tho. they'll probably give the general numbers and that's not very useful... you know, there are databases for this kind of information...
  21. aha! i see... :oD
  22. why would they wanna rerelease a baseplate? i don't get it... *wacko*
  23. there is a contract with ferrari for 2005 and 2006, signed on 02/02/2004
  24. the Dutch text confirms that we (at least belgium-luxemburg) will get a viking set this year. the sw licence, according to fbtb.com runs out in 2007. however, the guy who brought tlc and lucas together, has been given the sack. i guess tlc will wait untill mid 2006 before signing anything. they will probably want to see how this year goes... there are rumours that tlc can get out earlier. however, it's a rumour. i don't know what's in the contract. but very often, you get articles in it that makes it possible for one partner to end the contract sooner... i think all we know right now is that sw runs through 2007, the rest is speculation on the streamlining or dropping of exotic themes... this might be very good thing for the city theme. tlc wants themes "that are closer to home" (dutch text again) perhaps in the future they might expand their city theme further. that would be great to |-D |-D |-D
  25. the first is in dutch and confirms what i've said... it dates from 26/02/05 . that's pretty recent for me... about legoland... no one is going to confirm this obviously... that doesn't mean they aren't looking around... "the times" is, by the way, a respectable source... other respectable journalists (Paul D'hoore,...) said the same thing... sure you can ask Jake about this but you know what the answer is going to be, don't you? you're also taking this out of context. i was stating that tlc is going through a lot of structural changes, because of financial troubles. consequently, their decisions on what, where and how to sell will very much depend on that new position. I'm just giving you my view on why vikings will be released in Europe and not in the US. I also indicated that it's a theory, and told you NOT to accept it as the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. however, if i went way too far with this, than i sincerely apolagize... >-|
