i remember parents complaining about the aggressive minifig heads i think consumer organisations are just dying to get a big fish like tlc in the media on this subject. "competition is doing the same", is not going to be enough as an official respons, i'm afraid... as a company producing toys, i guess you'd want to stay away from this as far as possible... sure, kids are using already existing minifigs and sets to build weapons and stuff, the thing is that that was never officially endorsed by tlc. there's a difference between releasing general sets which are being used by kids to build weapons, and tlc building weapons... and yes, war is still very much a sensitive matter. we had a memorial day on the subject of the first gas attacks in Ypres during WWI , the day this topic started... i never, ever, want to see a minifig with a gas installation, nor do i ever want to see a toy company suggesting to kids it might be fun to build that with their products, even tho they might not specifically release "a gas set"...

i'd like to see if there's a hidden passage downstairs in the basement, behind one of those empty barrels, for instance. if the owner of the house is not in his house and he's not outside, then he's gotta be in a hidden room somewhere, dead or alive. and some one has obviously been in the basement, how else can a ring be lying on the floor? some one lost it there! how do you loose a ring in a basement if all you can do there is walk around and look at the barrels. my guess is that he or she lost it while he/she was moving/removing something... i also find it strange that 1 man has 9 barrels of wine, instead of a 1000 bottles of wine or so....

Images of Dino's European version !!!
snefroe replied to The Middleman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
sure, but the adventure sets were far more detailed than these dinos. the quality was a lot better -
what i like the most, j, is tintin's "Lotus bleu". i've got a somewhat larger version hanging on my wall as well :P

i think tlc might be a bit cautious about releasing military sets. i think they're very concerned with the respons by the general public in Europe, tlc's main market. nobody cared very much when tlc's competitors started releasing military sets, but most young parents wouldn't be happy with tlc producing military sets. after all, lego is an icon in Europe, the others are just very small, unknown, fish... i don't think that tlc will produce military sets unless they're in real trouble, after they've tried everything else; i don't think they want to take the risk of bad publicity.

Images of Dino's European version !!!

i can't undersand that tlc even wants to produce a set / theme like this ... it looks like crap to me... i wonder how these guys have to catch a dino without weapons... -
ok... i've read the entire tread now... hm, people ... i guy is missing and all you can think off is food and a fireplace... what i would like to check is if this Crowley is in the house or not. where does he leave his shoes, coats, umbrellas and are those items all there... this is an old house, right? it's bound to have secret rooms. i'd like to go and check the basement again. perhaps these empty barrels hide an entrance to a room... or the basement floor... i'd also like to check the rest of the house quickly, so we can establish that he's not in the house, at least not in the rooms we find. btw, is crowley an art collector, or what?

hm... these hieroglyphs may be a cartouche, a name of a pharaoh. they are very often the key to identifying graves of important people in ancient egypt. i don't really see the link between kali and egypt, i mean a hindu godess doesn't really have anything to do with egypt...

1)i just saw the movie. it's great! however, i think it's a "one time only movie", you're familiar with the story now, so most of the excitement is gone. i don't think the film is interesing enough to see it twice in theaters. 2) you basically have to shut down your brains when you see it or you get into trouble. for instance, the basement was burnt out, but the wooden staircase was just fine; the humvees didn't stop even tho they were quite close to the aliens, the camera was still working, why didn't these superior aliens scan for biosings based on body heat? Even we already have that technology... 3) at first i was a bit irritated by these alien tripods, but i guess they grow on you. these tripods coming out of the forest, looking for humans with these giant searchlights in the mist... the scene was awesume... 4) it's not an epic film, good versus evil. it's not "Independence Day II". what makes this story interesting is the fact that it's telling the story of an individual trying to survive while disaster and misery strike. it's a nice story but in the end, i loose focus. even tho i like the approach, i miss the great good versus evil... it wants to show the individual and his struggle, but it's not intense enough... btw, tom cruise is not particularly "your average guy", even tho his acting is not bad... 5) the music score needed a bit of pink floyd, but then again, i say that for every film i see :P

it's hard to imagine the skyline set having more than 2500 pieces. it's even harder to imagine that it would only cost 60$, basic parts or not. i think we're looking at 100$ at least... this would probably go to 140

hm... before i post any message at all, i always ask myself "is this really worth posting?" "Is this really interesting or relevant to others?" i find the aswer to those questions is very often: "no". i'm deleting more potential posts then i'm actually posting... the essential element of this topic is not so much "who's a regular poster", but "who's writing something that's actually worth reading?" i'm interested in quality, not quantity... i very often feel some posters don't seem to recognise the difference between a forum and a chat room... i used to have a post/day rate of 5.8. i'm still at 5.3, but i'm quite certain it's gonna keep on dropping, cos i've hardly posted anything in the last few weeks. the reason is simple: it's been said before... i'm getting tired of repeating what i've said in the past, and for some reason, we always do repeat old topics, even tho slightly changed... i've heard other respected members saying the same thing... honestly, i'd be surprised if i reach a 1000 posts in december... btw, do i get free set then? i'd like a star destroyer if you don't mind... :P -
well i got the designer program and there is indeed a reference to pabs and ordering bricks, so this news makes some sense to me now... however, the list of parts is really limited and not particular what i was hoping for...
-
have a great trip, j! London is a great place, you'll love it!
-
another problem for tlc is that they have to pay people full time to deal with these orders. bricklink people very often do this after having worked all day, in their own free time... they're more flexible on when to do their orders... much also depends on the parts tlc is offering. many buyers try to get a complete list of wanted parts in just one shop. many of these parts are probably older than 5 years... tlc has to have a huge catalogue if they want to attract a lot of customers. i think tlc was better off setting up a shop at brickliink.com. all potential customers are already there, no need to come up with extra software or anything...
-
yeah... i normally by stuff at uk bricklink shops. very often, i pay no extra fees for paypal, nor do i have to pay other fees and i normally have what i want three-four days after having placed the order. i really don't see how tlc can compete with that.
-
you're right, pirate. postal services in europe are rather expensive... i'm not sure how tlc is going to solve this... after all, this time they will be dealing with small packages, so they will most likely use Danish Post to some extent. i wonder how this will work. when i buy parts in the us i have to pay an extra 10
-
hm... i don't really know what to think of the b-wing it seems to me you get another collection of weird, useless parts if you buy this. it doesn't really impress me. it looks better than the original but i think there's more potential in the b-wing design than we're seeing here i'm curious about the red dome on the red starfighter... i'd be interested in buying the red starfighter and the robot on it, but i won't buy the combo set...
-
no... belug is the belgian website for legofans, like the other national websites. they've got a topic in their forum called "bulk orders" which is basically a question from one person to the other members if they're interested in buying parts directly from lego. all communication on this subject between members is posted on that forum... it's in dutch, so you won't be able to read it anyway
-
You think this has anything to do with the many new colors TLC has added in the past few years :D ? I find a certain sense of irony in that... ;) Life is Good. i'm not really sure what's going on, but based on the communication they've put on their website, it's been quite an ordeal to get the parts. for instance, it seems the list with orders has been lying around in TLC's production hall for a month... they found it again after an email of the organisor... not very promosing, is it?
-
well, if it's true, you'd think they make some noise about it...
-
much depends on: 1) price of every piece 2) posting and handling costs 3) total time of transaction it's hard to imagine that lego will be able to compete with bricklink shops... i'd also like to see the list of parts, but as many others, i think it's going to be quite limited. it sounds to me that they're just trying to get rid of stock here's another problem: people from Belug bought parts directly from lego a while back and there were many mistakes in what they all received. some got the correct part but in a wrong color, others didn't get the number of pieces they asked for... they were really sloppy... i also don't see any news about this on lego.com, even tho it's less than a month away...

i am shocked as well... this is a lot closer to my own home. we've always known there's a threat... Brussels probably ranks also very high on the terrorist list, knowing we've got headquarters of NATO and EU... we also have a jewish community in antwerp that has already been targeted 15 years ago... my thoughts also go out to all victims of this cruel act. i used to be involved in setting up strategies to detect organised crime activitities in our western societies (mainly in our economic structures (http://www.belspo.be/belspo/home/publ/pub_ostc/SoCoh/rSO0218_en.pdf ) It's pretty much the same as building strategies to detect vulnarebilities in our societies for terrorists. besides, terrorism and organised crime are closely linked... I've always known that in the end, we loose. how many cameras, police officers,... you've got, you can never control every detail of your society... there simply are too many vulnareble spots of wich the criminals can take advantage... i do hope these people were not suicide bombers because that would mean they don't care about what happens with them and that makes it A LOT more difficult to set up counter strategies and increases the risc of brutal attacks... for instance, it's easier to jump on a bus and blow it up, than to jump on a bus, drop a bag with a bomb and get off again... very often, claiming an attack might bring the criminal's life in danger, but he doesn't care about that anyway... the target of terrorists is not to control the west. the first and foremost target of terrorism is to get rid of the western controled governments in the Middle east. Most bomb attacks, most killings happen(ed) in these countries. 1000's of people have been killed in Algeria, Saudi arabia, Egypt, ... it just doesn't reach our media. what these people want is to set up a Taliban kind of government, a government ruled by the "sharia". that is why it was extremely stupid to attack iraq, because it weakened a country that has always been against terrorists and is now a lot more vulnerable to the terrorist's activities... they attack the west out of prestige, fanatism,... nothing more... all they want is to create chaos and panic... that's it... that's the best they can hope for... they're showing their own public that they can't be beaten by powerful armies... i also don't believe in "we'll get them sooner or later". in my experience, it just doesn't work like that. i know far too many weapons/drugs dealers who are walking freely in africa even tho they're wanted by international and national governments... they may get small fish, like the people who bombed Madrid, but these are just indivviduals. they're place is taken in by others the moment they're in custody...

you know this will cost you 7 billion

if you're asking me, i guess he's just a young lad who still has a lot of growing up to do... if he is really just 12 years old... i'm quite sure i was a pain in the neck at that age... this forum is simply not for kids that age,... i'm not sure if his family or personal life has anything to do with his behaviour here on the forum. i think you will find there are lots and lots of vcvc's on the internet, looking for trouble. the point is, eb asked him more than once to think about what he's posting... he's been warned more than once... he never changed his attitude, tho... so i think eb had every right to get rid of him... besides, you can't have members claiming mocs they did not built themselves. that's really not appropriate on a forum. eb was right in talking action...
