  1. So it is a literary allusion! Eeeeexcellent... *Begins laughing evilly for reasons none can comprehend* MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
  2. It has been clarified before; it's worded that way specifically so that QMs remember to add the power before elemental modifiers, instead of after. (If I recall correctly, bonuses to WP are, naturally, added before elemental modifiers, but most bonuses to Power are not. Correct me if I'm wrong, though. ) Also, wow Endgame. And here I thought my characters had screwed-up backstories.
  3. http://tvtropes.org/ ^^Done.
  4. If the damn things weren't all "Immune to Effects", we'd have half a shot... We should at least make sure we give ourselves ONE extra Round. Poletad needs to be a priority, at the very least.
  5. In that case, we should try to not finish off Wren too soon. Hmm...if Cronk or Haldor use some of their weaker weapons, they can heal Wren to avoid damage and specials, giving Vipera time to raise a few NPCs. Sounds like a plan to me!
  6. EDIT: Actually, to be fair, there have been a great number of interesting characters on 53...they're all either dead or fled. The ones who are SUPPOSED to be relatable...just aren't. It's frustrating, especially for a roleplayer like me. Also, Poletad. Poletad is an even higher priority for revival than Phil; he's the only allied NPC I still like. You should have come along to help us, then. Wren is, after all, balanced for a 1-on-1 fight with you.
  7. I've tried, really tried to care about the NPCs on 53, but I'm just so, so sick of babysitting them. I'll have more (much more!) to say about them in the post-Quest analysis, but suffice to say in this Quest they've shown us their worst traits (their mechanical ones) while hiding/neglecting most of their best ones (their personalities). If we save one, I'd say save Phil, since his death would just screw up everything we fought for in Dastan; otherwise, they can all go perform an anatomically infeasible act as far as I'm concerned. Not singling anyone out but...no, not really. I mean, some of them do, but there are a huge chunk who contribute about as much to Heroica as Phil and Mallelio have to Quest 53. I'm lost, care to explain to me exactly how we would go about this?
  8. The Jiin should not have lost that much health, since it wasn't summoned until AFTER Atters rolled Special murder party Damage.
  9. Atramor is so not getting revived...
  10. Does it take into row as well? After all, only one of those specials specifically ignores row and SP...
  11. I may have something for you, not really on the Quest I'm working on (although I'd love love LOVE to have you on it anyway--and come to think of it, it IS a pretty good fit for current Boomers and his attitude towards money...), but at a near point afterward.
  12. No, he needs one that lets him dance with wolves. Man, I can't wait for the 53 fight to be over. I've got a LOT of talking with people to do, and I can't exactly do it in the middle of combat. So excited, though, looking back, there's been quite a bit of character development! I can't wait to explore it!
  13. "Indeed. If Lady Nyx would pass her Healing Staff to Sir Cronk? As per usual, Sir Cronk, I will need to go before you if you wish to maximize your odds of summoning your Angel." Arthur uses his Healing Staff on Mallelio from the Back Row. Cronk doesn't have a Healing Staff anymore.
  14. Well, to be fair, it depends. If Guts had managed to sneak up on the enemy undetected (determined by logic and/or dice roll), I'd totally allow him to get in a "sneak attack" before the battle proper--it just makes sense. Or, if the Heroes are surprised by the enemies, they may be Hastened for the first Round. In the Q40 example (and solely because it's the example everyone else is using), I might have said, "OK, you want to start fighting before the boats dock? OK. Round one of battle, only ranged attacks will connect (for both Heroes and enemies), everything else is a Miss." It would have made sense and had an appreciable effect on the battle, within the realm of logic and within the scope of the game rules. Alternatively, if there had been multiple ships, perhaps burning the sail of one of the further-out ships would delay the arrival of reinforcements or something. (Just throwing out examples, Q40 was awesome as-is. ) Perhaps the mage can't destroy the scaffolding, but because of her quick thinking the villain is Weakened for the first Round as he tries to regain his footing. Not game-breaking, but still rewarding thinking outside the box. Because people steadfastly refuse to believe that mages are of any use whatsoever, since they can't be badass. Thinking logically, in-universe, Mages are super powerful, and could solve many of the world's practical problems...but they're kept in check because so many non-Ether-users find it hard to trust them.
  15. I know, but Arthur doesn't do much damage anyway, and he can't take the hit. The only reason I'm not using the Healing Staff on Gnash is because I'm afraid of another weapon swap, and I REALLY want to Jinx Gnash next Round so that Nyx can pass Cronk her Healing Staff (hopefully on that same Round) and Cronk can get 4 rolls per action to get us a Guardian Angel.
  16. Hey, that Special didn't ignore immunity before... "Damn it." Arthur casts Light through the Staff of Ennon at the Master Chaos Beast from the Back Row.
  17. I feel you. I have no idea why Arthur can't seem to roll a few SHIELDs...maybe now that he's not Lucky. Although, when Arthur DOES roll a SHIELD, he usually gets like 400 Gold in one go, thanks to Zeph's insane enemies.
  18. "Aye, then." Realizing an opportunity to conserve his Ether, he swings Sir Roderick's Sword at Wren from the Front Row. Might I suggest Lightning instead so he can damage the Chaos Beasts if he rolls a SHIELD? Summary: Felton (Sabre) vs. Wren (Front Row) Hans (Sword of Dastan) vs. Wren (Front Row) McColt Encourages Skrall Vipera makes Skrall Lucky >Skrall (Composite Bow) vs. Wren (Back Row) Cronk (Beast Skewer) vs. Wren (Front Row) Cronk (Beast Skewer) vs. Wren (Front Row) Nyx (Dawnstar II) vs. Wren (Front Row) Atramor (Ratsbane) vs. Wren (Front Row) >Alexis (Mockthril Longbow) vs. Wren (Back Row) >Alexis (Mockthril Longbow) vs. Wren (Back Row) Haldor (Heavy Metal Rod) vs. Wren (Front Row) Thothwick (Banana Sabre) vs. Wren (Front Row) Hoke (Vintul) vs. Wren (Front Row) >Dyric (Briar Bow) vs. Wren (Back Row) Arthur (Sir Roderick's Sword) vs. Wren (Front Row) Poletad heals self >Mallelio (Lightning, Wooden Staff) vs. Wren (Back Row) Phil (Hammer of Dastan) vs. Wren (Front Row) Gnash (City Watch Halberd) vs. Wren (Front Row)
  19. "I do not wish to steal this kill from one who has better earned it. Skrall, I trust your advice, I will let you decide: if you wish me to attack, I will gladly cast a Light Spell at Wren from the Back Row, otherwise I will use my Healing Staff on the party member with the lowest Health, still from the Back Row."
  20. He's probably going to fulfill the Zepher stereotype...show up at the end, taunt the Heroes and/or kill the NPCs, and then run away for some other Quest to finish off. (I'm only poking so much fun at you, Zeph, because your Quest is so heavy on my mind. Well, that and your QM-ship composes fully half of my experience in Heroica. )
  21. I already said that earlier in the Quest; I had asked Corny to change Zepher's name to reflect this. Interesting...Arthur is big on justice, but despises order; to him, freedom is the ultimate necessity of life. "Live free or die," as it were. At the same time, he agrees with a lot of the stuff people like Dyric and Skrall say...he'd be Neutral Good, except people like Cronk push him away from Lawful, which is why he remains Chaotic Good even after all this time.
  22. They cannot, they would be hunted down by the enemies of the Aoi. Which does bring up an interesting point: the Ji Pei are benefiting from the protection of the Bonaparte fleet, but at the cost of their dignity and their freedom. Is the safety worth the price? Perhaps the Ji Pei themselves are wondering...Jun, clearly, does not. Please tell me it's not a Zeigfried or Byblos Quest...I don't want to miss another one...
  23. Superior technology that they have to build and use in secret for fear of being attacked/arrested by the Bonapartes...and let's not forget that the Bonapartes have been hijacking their ships and stealing their cargo, too.
  24. Sidequest, perhaps? One party member separates from the others to help an injured/unconscious Nemo to a lifeboat as his ship is sinking, and they have to decide whether to cooperate with his wishes or not.
  25. I, personally, like Jun more...though it may just be that we've gotten to see more of him than we have of Attina. The Ji Pei are being oppressed, and as interesting as the Bonapartes are (and as vital to Heroica!), they have to go down sooner or later.
