  1. "...marginally. Arnulf explained a few things about the Stealer...and the Watchmen he kidnapped. Apart from that, though..." Arthur shrugged and turned back to Arrow. He didn't know what to make of Karie--she had proven remarkably useful thus far...but if she was leading them into a trap, that's exactly how she'd have to behave. For all he knew, she knew who Arrow was the whole time, and she just made up a chain of logic to hide her tracks, though even he had to admit that was a little silly. Still, there was only one thing he knew for sure: She hates the Stealer. A lot. Which means if he's working with the Wolfgang, she's either loyal, or a Wolfgang defector. He'd have to wait until he had more information before he could trust her...especially given the resemblance. Violetta...why'd you have to be so charismatic? Why couldn't the Wolfgang be faceless thugs like the other ones in that alley? Why'd you have to make this so difficult? "Arrow, these other dogs--what were the Wolfgang using them for? Are they a threat to us and/or the city? Or should we just leave them here?" "Very useful, Arrow. Good boy."
  2. "Hmm...interesting. Still, why would the Stealer's minions try to keep us out of here if this is Wolfgang turf? Unless they're working together..." "Yes, one Watchman who managed to get out alive told us that the Wolfgang have an armory nearby. The Heroes and I are tasked with raiding and destroying it."
  3. Arthur strokes the dog soothingly. "You were poisoned in the line of duty. Drugged by a dangerous criminal named the Stealer of Senses. You were lucky...the other Watchmen were killed. I was sent down here with a team of Heroes from Heroica Hall to investigate and take out the Wolfgang armory--and I think we've all just added taking out this Stealer character to our itinerary. What about you, though? Do you feel fit for duty? If not, we could definitely make use of a messenger back to the Barracks."
  4. "Good work, Karie." Arthur uncaps a Remedy and pours it into a small wooden bowl before approaching the black dog. "Arrow? Here, boy. This should help you feel better."
  5. you can, however, buy lots and lots of Ambrosia and become truly unstoppable...until all the enemies start piercing SP, anyway.
  6. Arthur smiles, then winces. What are you doing? Stay focused, man! He looks back to the dogs. "Once we determine which one's Arrow, I'll feed him the Remedy. Best that a Watchman does it, he'll probably be calmer seeing a familiar uniform."
  7. I sort-of agree. I don't think any of my gems came from Elphaba, but rather from Quests (aside from the Opal I started with) and the Garnet from Grogmas. There's something special about that. Not only is it better for balance, but I feel like I earned those gems. I think that the gems (such as they are) ought not to ALL be available when Elphaba comes, but just a portion (preferably chosen randomly). EDIT: Actually, was my Diamond bought from Elphaba? I don't remember. I don't think so, but I can't recall when I DID get it, so I could be wrong. There you go, Scuba, a reference to the one unassailably badass Mage in fiction history: Mad-Eye Moody.
  8. "Yes, I'm starting to think this Stealer might be the greater threat after all. Still--we can't forget our mission, nor can we forget that the Wolfgang are known to be active in this part of the city; for all we know, they could be working together, or they could be enemies who are more than happy to let us get caught in the crossfire. Either way--CONSTANT VIGILANCE!" Arthur blushed; he hadn't meant for that last bit to come out as a yell.
  9. Arthur begins using his shovel to dig a hole in the dirt in which to bury the corpses.
  10. That was my impression as well, especially considering that Heroes can't Counterstrike if they've been protected by Sentinel or guardian Angel.
  11. "Oh..." "Crap...one of them must be Arrow. Em, can you ask these pups their names? And, uh...why is that one skeleton blackened? I...half-expect them all to get up and attack us..." Zee...she may be gone, but her kind still walks the world. And if Baba has friends and has recruited them to the Wolfgang... Arthur turns back to Karie...the sight of the woman, contorted by pain...it was almost exactly the same. Exactly the same...as her... Who are you, Karie Alderflask? "It's fine, Karie. Here, need a Remedy? I find them quite soothing, myself..."
  12. "In pain...? We should help them, don't you think?"
  13. "Hmm...Em, can you tell what the dogs are saying?"
  14. What's that tile Schezerade is standing on in the shots where she's whacking sleeping Heroes? Ah must know!
  15. Fix'd. Well, except for Etheria--they're probably the closest we'll see in Heroica to a Crystal Spires And Togas society, and even then it's not a perfect match. Perhaps they were able to build their advanced society without destroying themselves because they do their magical experimenting in transdimensional extraspatial loaclities engineered for the subplanar extrapolation of energy to a space proportionally larger than actual spatiotemporal dimensions. Or, in English, perhaps they all turned their laboratories into TARDISes.
  16. "I'll take the orange, can save it for emergencies. Or sell it to the Guild of Invision, they'd be happy for a chance to get it off the streets. Here, take a second Remedy, so you can deal with the Pixie Dust's effect; we mixed a bunch of drinks not too different from these with Remedies before we chugged 'em when we prepared to face Wren for the last time." Arthur closes his eyes at the memory.
  17. Arthur uses his Magnifying Glass to aid the others' searches , and then uses it as he searches the drawers. OOC: "Lupus Alfred Wulfric Lyren Endgame?" Whaaaaa--?
  18. I disagree. Again, it takes a Mage to be able to Overkill properly. Yes, there are some heavier hitters, but not really to the extent I can do--at least not on a semi-universal basis. Keep in mind, I optimized my build around these gloves, so the effect is somewhat exaggerated. Also keep in mind that they're rare and VERY expensive, which limits their potential in other ways. He changed his mind (as WBD's first Quest shows), and he himself dropped an Everlasting Venom consumable in Quest 66. Power Creep happens, especially when certain players (me) dedicate a lot of time and energy improving their builds so they can enact powerful strategies. I am a supremely bad example of any kind of balance for any item, simply BECAUSE I seek out ways to play the system to my advantage. I kind of wish I'd lent my OK gloves to someone else, just to demonstrate how they work on someone who's NOT inherently broken. In fact, I think that's a pretty good idea. Zeph, who do you think should wear them, you or Em? I'm leaning toward Em, but I'm not sure he'd be active enough to put them on, or if he'd remember to give them back.
  19. More like I haven't been exposed to much of it at all. I don't even have knowledge of the Hollywood rendition mutation--it just hasn't come up for me. I almost said there was also a little bit of "Star Wars meets Disney's movie of Prince of Persia," but then I realized that was most likely a result of Doc's involvement. The colonial India influence showed up in the racial tensions--U'stus make me think a lot of Ghandi in certain ways.
  20. Interesting--I didn't get that vibe at all. To me, I got something of a combination between ancient Rome and "Manifest Destiny"-era Texas, with a side of colonial India thrown in for good measure.
  21. Arthur quickly passes out the Gold he'd divided for everyone earlier, and passes everyone who doesn't have one a Remedy as well. "Best to be prepared."
  22. We didn't need the big damage-dealers to be dealing ginormous amounts of damage, though, that's the thing. There was that one close moment, but I knew I could absorb the damage, and I knew the other Heroes could deal with the other enemies. I'll never put my own pocketbook over the good of the rest of the party--that's not me. (Yes, yes, Wren--roleplaying is a different matter, and if you'll notice, I lost out big time stats-wise from that. Let's leave it at that.) Particularly when it comes to other Heroes gaining experience--only reason I didn't heal Em was because a different Hero would do a better job of it.
  23. Arthur writes the names down on a scrap of parchment for future reference. "Yes." he says simply, before walking around the bend.
  24. "..." "...So this is a rescue mission, then. Hmm..." "Well. I can't blame you for being overruled. Though in the future, I expect a more upfront explanation before things get out of hand. And your report will have to be filed in the Watch's records--what did you say the names of the Guards were? If we don't get them back, at least I can fill in the blanks in their MIA records." "Here. Take this. I'll need it back at the end of the Quest, but for now you seem to be well suited to use my Scarf of Misfortune. We're going to find and raid that armory. And then we're going to hunt this Stealer down and get justice for his crimes." Still doesn't exonerate Alderflask, but at least I know Arnulf is loyal. I wonder...I wonder if she chose to leave those Watchmen to the Stealer...? OOC: Just noticed, my Critical Hit was miscalculated, 26 + 23 = 49, not 39, resulting in dealing 392 damage, which comes out to 380 gold. "Ah, where are my manners? Each of you, take 50 Gold from my stock. Least I can do, you all fought well." OOC: Also, you forgot to give my Potion to Karie.
  25. Oh, that's right! I forgot! Can Arthur have a family portrait with Valentine and the Zeigfrieds?
