Heroica RPG - Quest #77: Your Elves are Better than Ours
Flipz replied to Brickdoctor's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Lady Avialyn, how many of your people remember me specifically from Bric'bay? Bringing me along may have been a terrible mistake...maybe that's why they're all in hiding." Arthur uses his telescope to try and see through the arrow loops. -
Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion

Actually, it's my opinion that they saw best not to use him because he was a "babysitter NPC" and because of that roll; I think if Jun wasn't a "major" character the party needed to protect, they would have been less cautious with him. I really need to get my Theater post on NPCs done, but first I have to finish the pair of Expert Class concepts I'm working on. -

Arthur absently begins humming a tune as he searches. "Last Friday night..." "Sounds reasonable to me. Let's go." As before, Arthur is careful to seem unassociated with Ellaria and Avialyn. -

OOC: Hate to do this to you...but Baelanith should be Poisoned. Pulling out his Magnifying Glass, Arthur examines the throne, followed by the coat of arms. "Where is everybody? You think the Pogs got 'em?" -

"Nothing wrong, per se, but if anyone asks, you two hired me, a mercenary named 'Regulus', as an aide. Made a friend in the bar, but implied I wasn't a Hero; if people see me as independent, they might open up to me more." "I remember him. He seemed to have a fixation on me, as I recall. Not exactly pleasant, was he?" -
I think it's been long enough since I've played a TT Lego game that this one'll feel fairly new. :P

"Then may our paths cross again, A-Turburtus." Arthur gets up and edges out of the bar, being careful to avoid both the battle and Ellaria and Avialyn until he is outside. -
I would say "no", personally.

"Well, in that case, maybe I should go give them a visit. I've been told I have quite the Diplomatic touch." Spotting Ellaria's subtle signal, Arthur passes 10 Gold and diplomatically extends a hand to the figure. "The name's Regulus, friend. If you hear of any opportunities that might be helpful to someone like me, let me know. If I had your name, I'd be happy to return the favor." Arthur waits for both the man's response and for Ellaria and Avialyn to be completely out of sight of the bar patrons for at least two minutes before following them. -

"Fair 'nough. So, how are they doing? The elves, I mean, with rulin' the village and all. If it came down to it, are they good enough for this place, or would things be better with someone else in charge?" Arthur glances toward the door, attempting to judge the general time (i.e. midday, dusk, etc.) by the color and angle of the light. -

"Really? Huh. Wonder who pays best...and why are the elves interested in this town, anyway?" Hearing the brawl break out, Arthur was glad he had kept himself apart from the rest of the party. The novice Knight lacked subtlety. He turns back to the black knight he was still speaking with. "What do you think, friend? Worth getting involved in, or should we just keep to our own business?" -
Basically the same here. ...it's like we're clones or something.

Spotting the poster in the tavern, Arthur scans it quickly but does not approach, not wanting to break his 'cover', even as flimsy as it was. He knew there'd be a message in his satchel, addressed just to him--and sure enough, as he reached into his bag there it was. He left the tied paper and pulled out his old sapphire goblet and the bottle of wine he'd taken from the hotel room earlier instead. Why can't that woman just leave me alone? he wonders. She's almost as bad as Caroline. Arthur frowned inwardly. Speaking of which...where was she? He hadn't heard from her in months. Not since...well, not since Grogmas Eve. An absolutely absurd number of major events took place that night. Even now, my life seems to revolve around that fateful day... While Arthur mused, a small black orb in his bag began to pulse and squirm, as if it sensed its master's thoughts. A spurt of black goo suddenly tore itself from the orb, momentarily staining Valentine's invitation before draining away, leaving just a name on the entry line: Arthur Justus Regulus VII. A sound, like the silent whisper of a thousand departed souls, echoed through the Plaything, emerging as a silent murmur that nonetheless triggered the paper's transport spell, submitting the name to the lottery. Heedless, Arthur wiped out the cup and poured himself a glass of wine, he raised his glass to the dark-armored being he was chatting with. "To better days," he toasts simply, before taking a drink.

"Mm. So really, if someone could take care of the Pogs, everything would be alright, eh? Guess that's what Heroes are supposed to be for. Although..." He pauses. "Aside from the Mopags, is anyone else doing anything to protect R'kliff?" -
I've got at least two Quests planned that do the same thing, actually. The seeds were planted in my mind by 38, and grew to fruition when I started to put together the parties that the Lost Party had been a part of. EDIT: Also, does Cinna's medal increase in power now or on the 10th? Not that it matters mechanically at the moment, but if we can use it to get Darkdragon interested and active again...

"Aye. With the Pogs raiding, it can't be an easy task. 'Course, they can't be the only threat in town, am I right? What other sorts of difficulties do they end up facing?" he asks diplomatically. The dwarf's tone causes Arthur to turn around and examine the situation over his shoulder. He grimaces, but keeps himself unassociated with Throlar or the other Heroes. He turns back to his companion. "Heroican, by the looks of him. Some of their lot 've been decent to me, but some of them..." he points his thumb over his shoulder towards the dwarf. "What do you think? Should we get involved, or d'you think the elf can handle himself?" -
Nope, Zeph got ya with the old "white text on white background" trick.

Distancing himself from the others, Arthur moves to speak with the Black Knight wearing an unusual mask. He nods in greeting. "How's it going?" -

"Then our personal situations are not dissimilar. But you still cannot hope to defeat them alone--and until we have more information, the rest of the party, myself included, will not be prepared to engage in a direct engagement. Better to wait until we hold all the cards and engage the enemy when victory is more likely." -

"They speak the truth, Ambassador," Arthur says, speaking up after a long bout of silence. "Take it from one who has fought them, who has witnessed their true power on multiple occasions--the Pongcanae are not to be underestimated." "But hear this, Lady Nerwen. When my allies killed Vonnetate, the previous Pongcanis leader, who had allied himself with a world-threatening Chaomancer--" Arthur faltered for a miniscule fraction of a moment here--a rookie like Throlar or even the two experienced humans wouldn't notice, but to Nerwen and Alexander's keen Elven senses the pause would stand out like a beacon on a midnight shore "--their people had a chance to change their ways and seek a route of peace and diplomacy...but clearly they did not take it. From the way they rampaged in Dastan...in Eubric...and, as Captain McColt or Dyric Rone could tell you, in Haddon...there is no hope for them. Savagery is inherent in their nature, and that will never change. To hand the city over to them would be to hand it to a race of tyrants, and they would devour this city like a dire wolf devours its prey...both figuratively and literally. You have, of course, heard what they do to their enemies when some greater force does not drive them off?" Another miniscule pause. "I cannot in good conscience--and so will not--turn this city over to monsters. Let them stay in the forests and devour each other, and let us instead choose leaders who will defend the civilized peoples from them." "In the meantime--let us go to the tavern." -
Considering he was the ONLY helpful Mopag in the whole area...not a stretch for him to assume this is the same Mopag. (And really, if there's an issue with Arthur recognizing him as a Mopag, well... )

Apparently, yes, because Heroica is apparently 4REALZ SRS BSNS. (Note that in the quoted example by me [i can't speak to the other example], the character recognized specifically mentioned having encountered Heroes before [triggering my character to even bother trying to remember], the incident in question IS likely to be included in the record ["finally, we met a Mopag farmer who directed us to R'kliff" or something of the sort], and the Quest in question was attended by one of Arthur's best friends and involved the faction he's the most loyal to--even if Arthur WASN'T specifically dedicated to being studious and reading the past incidents in Heroica, he at least has a reason to remember. Furthermore, he didn't even recall the man's name--he just remembered "a farmer that helped several of my friends when they were in the area". I don't think that's unreasonable--believe it or not, I DO think about whether or not it's reasonable for Arthur to remember stuff. Case in point, Q70. Or having to ask De'kra about the Veterans in Q66. Hell, the only reason he knew about Alexis siding with the Wolfgang was because Masked specified that Alexis and Arthur slept together, and I figured she'd talk in her sleep Elsa Schneider-style. [if you don't get the reference, go watch Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade immediately, please.]) Yes, we've established that I was a bad roleplayer on 31 and 38. Can we please let it go? It's not like I bring up Quest 19 every time Haldor says/does something I don't agree with. What was that you were saying earlier about freedom of roleplaying, Endgame?

Which is why any Fields party I join will have at least one of the three. I have a feeling that the areas beyond the Threshold Monsters will consist of entirely new enemies, all of whom have stats equivalent to the Threshold Guardians on their own.

"I'm guessing fear will keep the local systems in line. Fear of their battle stations." "Sergeant Saunterton, who are the most important people to know about in R'kliff right now?" Arthur asks diplomatically.
