Interesting Technic lineup. Presumably, there will be more than just those sets. I'd like to see so big Technic sets again in 2007 (as I'm trying to build the new Tow Truck right now.) Also, what about some Mindstorm NXT packs?

Yes, shields are stickers. I couldn't believe it. The chrome sword is very nice. I was puzzled by the green 1st floor as well. It's like they have grass in the throne room??? Wow, you definitely had worse damage. Mine was only crushed on the edges (although you couldn't tell in the photos.) Also, the sticker seals were broken on my box as well as all the boxes in the store. I figured I was safe since the perforated tabs were still intact. Strange that all boxes in the store were like that though...

I remember asking why LEGO didn't do this in all sets. The answer I got was that they purposely break up the minifigs into different bags to make them harder to steal. Apparently, when LEGO puts all the minifigs in the same bag, people open the box in the store and steal that one bag out of the box. That makes sense, but it makes you wonder why the ISD has everyone in the same bag since it has some expensive figures...

I just picked this set up today at the LEGO store in Glendale, CA. They just received it on Monday and they only had three left. I'll try to build it this weekend and get some photos and observations up for everyone.

That's pretty slick - neat idea. To me, that is the draw of the Technic sets. Finding new and innovative ways to make real life devices.

I agree. It seems that is where they are going and a ROTJ Falcon *should* be coming soon. Also, sign me up for a UCS Falcon - something about the size as the Star Destroyer would be ideal...

I guess it is no surprise with the release of Mindstorms NXT that I saw the Mindstorms 2.0 on clearance at the Glendale, California LEGO store today. It was marked down to $149 (from $199). They had five or so in stock. They did have plenty of NXT sets on hand though as well as the new Technic motor. They had plenty of everything else on hand, except (of course) what I really wanted: The new Technic Tow Truck and the new (redesigned or whatever you want to call it) Castle set. Supposedly, the clerk said they would be in either next Monday (July 31) or the Monday after. Just FYI.

I agree. It blows my mind to see LEGO not take advantage of all the free advertising they could be getting for these sets. This would create pent up demand and when they do come out, the sets would fly off the shelf. Like someone said earlier, all of Hasbro's merchandise is all over rebelscum and numerous other sites. People are talking up a storm about how they have to have all this new stuff. What does LEGO show??? -- Nothing!! The way it is now, every time I stroll through Toys R Us with my daughters, I have to look closely at the LEGO isle to see what new sets have been released that I might not know about! What is up with that?

Interesting thread. I agree with a lot of what has already been said. - I'm on the West Coast so I definitely agree with the timing aspect. I usually go to bed around 1AM so I always check Ebay and see what auctions are ending soon. That's 4AM Eastern and sometimes you can grab some good deals in the middle of the night. - I've got a ton of good deals with BiN auctions. I got a complete Technic Airtech Claw Rig for $50 on a BiN because I happened to do a search right when it was listed. I also got the technic control center the same way. - Buying lots on Ebay is great too. However, it is a bit of a surprise as to what you actually get. Like someone previously mentioned, look at the photos - that can tell you a lot about what you are buying. Keep in mind you will likely have to do some sorting and cleaning though. I've probably done 150+ LEGO purchase transactions on Ebay and 99% of them have been positive. I've only been stiffed one time and paypal covered all but $25 of my loss.

I saw this too. I agree, something at this price warrants getting your card stamped. My local LEGO store is not supposed to have it until sometime in August.

Presumably, they were clearing shelf space for the new tow truck (replacing the crane as the big Technic set) and the crawler crane replaces the forklift. I'm guessing the 8421 crane didn't do that well because (in addition to what you stated) it was the third version of a mobile crane. I really like the Technic line, but I hope the start making other things besides multiple iterations of cranes and trucks (space shuttle anyone?)
