Technic - "old" vs "new"
dunamis replied to Hobbes's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Ok, the set came (about a week ago) and the seller was great. They had separated all the pieces by color in bags. All the hoses, pumps and the turntable appear to be in good shape. This is probably my best Ebay find ever. I finished building the set and all I can say is WOW, what a great Technic set! Gylman, you are right, this is probably the best Technic set I have ever built. It has so many functions and is very impressive to see in action. Have you build the alternate model? I hate to take this apart, but I'm intrigued to see if the alternate model is as clever as the primary. Any suggestions on it? Thanks for the recommendation! -
I agree with Gylman. I've probably bought 200+ sets from Ebay, Bricklink and people on various boards. You would be amazed at the range of prices found in all three places. You can usually tell the Ebay listings right away that will get more money: They have more pictures, the sets are built and nicely displayed, the seller goes into detail about the sets, etc. The listings that don't do well have a stock photo of the set and don't have any information. You get the idea. If you wanted to sell some of your Technic sets, I'm sure you would have some takers on this board (hint, hint) :-) Anyway, good luck!

I noticed that too. Kind of puts a damper on trying to stock up on the big sets. It did not used to be this way. I think it might have something to do with the TRU and Amazon split.

Fascinating! Do you by chance have any photos of this that you could share? -
Wow, all of those are awesome! My favorite was Keith's though. That is amazing! Hobbs - thanks for the info on Lugnet. I guess I'll keep waiting and see if I ever get my membership. They already have my "donation" so there is not much I can do...

I asked him how he got it and he got back to me this morning. Here is what he said:
-
OK, he Emailed me and added pictures to the listing. Looks more legit now...

Not to hijack this thread, but has anyone else had problems signing up for Lugnet? I registered and paid about five months ago and have yet to hear anything. I Email the admins all the time and still nothing. Anyone have any insight into Lugnet?

Well, the guy got back to me and said he would either Email me some photos or add them to the auction soon. I'll let you know if I get anyting from him.

I'm on it. I'll let everyone know what he says. Stay tuned...

Wow, great work! Love the detail. P.S. What was the Star Wars project you were working on?

Technic - "old" vs "new"
dunamis replied to Hobbes's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well, I've been tracking this one for a while. I've lost out on a few Ebay auctions, but hopefully I got lucky with this one: 8868 Ebay Auction I saw your caution about the turntable and pneumatics, so hopefully the set will be in good shape. If so, it looks like a steal. Thanks for the recommendation. -
I did a couple of deals with Jamie recently and had no problems. He's good for it.

I've been trying to pick up an 8868 and keep getting outbid on Ebay... This is a great topic as I got back into LEGO back in Jan of 2005 after begin out for some 20 years. I had a number of the original technic sets but have recently picked up some of the new ones. I did manage to snag a MISB Space Shuttle recently and will start building it in the next couple of weeks. Keep recommending sets as this is great for me to catch up on the late 80s and 90s sets that I might have missed. -
Hi. Not sure if this is the right forum (Mod's please move if needed). I'm trying to upload my set inventory into Peeron and I don't know the file format. It looks like they only take the format that LUGNET uses. Now, I have applied for a LUGNET membership back in December but have not heard back from them (that's a another story) so I can't load my inventory into LUGNET first and export it to Peeron. So, here is what I am asking. Can someone with a LUGNET membership please export their set list and send me the format in a PM? I don't need to see your entire inventory, just the layout. Thank you!

For what it's worth there are a lot of them still in the retail outlets in Southern California. Although, I do see less and less of them so it appears that retailers are not reordering them or can no longer get them.

LDView is a program that allows you to render your drawing in 3-D. It is pretty cool and allows you to rotate and zoom your drawing. I believe you can get it at ldraw.org as well.

This is great news! I'm surprised they didn't mention the live action TV series as well. Although they do mention they have the entire Star Wars univers...
