  1. This sounds like an amazing contest. There's also a great amount of freedom as in what we can use to make our entries. I'm certainly giving the second category a go, I've always wanted to make a Western town. The prizes are also great. I hope to see some beautiful creations the following weeks.
  2. Nice entry, The Lego Wizard. I like the idea and the build reminds me of some older Castle sets, which is certainly a positive point. It looks very much like a LEGO set with the play feature of the canon and that simple prison. In the future, try to take your pictures in a well lit place (outside when it's sunny or have a couple of lamps pointing towards your MOC) and try to have a one-coloured background. Also, your pictures can be as big as 800x600 pixels, so those first couple of photos can be bigger and should be, as it's hard too see what's going on (luckily, I can zoom in with the internet browser so I had a better look). Good luck!
  3. Nice idea, Lego lover. The Black Pearl in the distance is simple, but very well made and effective. There could have been more details (LEGO creations are all about details ): the dock looks empty, rubbish laying around, pieces of cord and brown tiles as wood would have made it look much better. Also the water looks empty, it's a dock, where are the boats? Anyways, I hope this info will be useful for future creations. Good luck!

    MAELSTROM!

Original last minute entry, George G. I think you've achieved the spinning effect pretty well. The boats are also well done. I especially like the Black Pearl as that one looks quite recognizable for such a scale. The Flying Dutchman looks a bit like a modern warship to me, but it still works though. Good luck!
  5. Nice entry, Skrytsson. What of course stands out is the Kraken. Very detailed and the mouth looks great! Must've taken you quite some time with LDD to make that. The part of the ship is nice, although it could use a bit more detailing. Your creation could really benefit of being build with actual LEGO parts. I'm looking forward to that. Good luck!
  6. Great entry, hammelgeier. You can really feel the chaos going on in this scene. This is perfect in micro scale, it would be huge in minifg scale! Nice job on the Kraken and its tentacles, it's really breaking the ship apart. The ships looks also good, perhaps another colour would also have looked good. I like the details like wooden things laying around. And it's best to take your LEGO photos in a well lit place, not using the flash (for future reference ). Good luck!
  7. Nice work, Burman. It's very recognizable and I like the fact that you kept the creation comparable to an official LEGO set. The colours work very well. The river looks chaotic at a first glance (there are a bit too many random pieces like the technic pieces), but I must say it works to portray all the filth in it. The building looks wonderful with a roof made of minifigure stands. You used the SNOT technique well. A wooden structure like in the picture would be a nice touch. And I'd like to see an overall picture of your creation. Good luck!
  8. Great stuff, Rolli. Very nice atmosphere with the lightning and the colours, your pictures look like the scenes in the film. Your custom figures look close to the real deal. The floor has been done nicely and so are walls. The overall picture in your Flickr stream shows how you've done them and it looks quite difficult, but you've managed to create the same style of walls like in the film scenes. Some more detailing would be nice, like barrels or something. Good luck in the contest!
  9. Great Fountain of Youth, Cecilie and way better than LEGO's attempt in the official set. LEGO's fountain doesn't even look close to the one in the film and to yours. You certainly got the shape right, but it's indeed a bit too big but I don't think that's a problem at all. I especially like the pathway between the trees, the trees themselves and the waterfall. The rocks are a bit too flat, perhaps a bit more greenery could look nice. A bit more bones and a little bit of plants would make the ground look less clean. I also like the colours and the lightning, there's a nice atmosphere with that amount of dark green. Nice job and good luck!
  10. The Star Snack Bar is thought to be one of the few family-friendly restaurants on the planet. And now Johnny's gang has set their mind on it. Little do they know that the Star Snack Bar is in fact owned by one of the biggest Mafia bosses on the planet. More photo's at: Brickshelf: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=477919 MOCpages: http://mocpages.com/moc.php/279253 Flickr: Thought I'd tackle something space for a change. Tips and comments are welcome!
  11. I also had a couple of black and dark bluish grey 1x2 tiles left when I built Diagon Alley. I traced every step of the building instructions, but I hadn't made any mistakes. Guess we're lucky, you never can't have enough tiles.
  12. These look really nice! I especially like the helmet and shield with the skull, and the torso of the Bomb Squad figure. The items will certainly be useful for post-apocalyptic creations. I'm looking forward to more of these detailed pieces.
  13. Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your comments! I was going to do that at first, and in the second boat Gibbs, Turner and the other three pirates. I really wanted to do that, but I haven't got Gibbs or Turner (the sets they come in are just too expensive right now). If I get my hands on the figures really soon (because I don't think this will stay together for a long time), I'll certainly retake a picture or two with all the characters. As for Tia Dalma, she consists of Yeoman Zombie's head and arms, Troll Queen's torso (which fits perfectly with the head colour) and dress and of course Bellatrix Lestrange's hair. Thanks again!
  14. Very creative entry, Toltomeja! I was impressed by the seize of it. What's left of the boat looks great. The head looks also very good, perhaps a black 1x1 round plate on the white headlight bricks would make it complete. The hair and beard looks spot-on. His clothing looks also recognizable, with the coat and the piece of cloth hanging out of his pocket. I wouldn't worry too much about the colours, it looks fine. His arms are a bit weird though, they may look better a bit bigger, and so are his fingers. Great job and good luck!
  15. Excellent entry, Sebeus Iniwum. I think this new first picture looks great, it's like an action shot. It also shows the amount of creativity that went into the mouth of the Kraken, great job on that! The tentacles look also very good. Cut-outs are popular it seems, you've done a nice job. There's plenty of action going on and there are a lot of details on the inside of the ship. For some way or another, the half empty bottle of rum stands out to me. The ship being under water for a part is also a nice touch. A shame about the lack of parts, but we all stumble on restrictions. Some tentacles going through the ship would've been nice. I don't mind that the Kraken isn't complete, showing the inside of his stomach is a great idea instead of a full Kraken! Good luck in the contest!
  16. Great entry, MstrOfPppts! It looks really wonderful. The new pictures really make it stand out. The rock work is fabulous, a nice combination of dark and light grey. A couple of plants would be a nice touch. The reverse build is also a great idea! You can do much more with it than with using reverse slopes. The water could use a bit more rocks perhaps. As I said before, this was also my first idea. I was also going to make a roof, but with holes in it, so when making pictures it's like there's moonlight coming in the cave. I think yours could really benefit from this idea! Jack Sparrow hiding is a nice detail. Don't worry about the lack of gold, it's not very noticeable because the attention is drawn by the figures. Perhaps and idea that could help to have a better look of the creation: building a rock wall on the left of Elizabeth and having no wall behind the pirates. So you can take the pictures from behind the pirates, with Barbossa and Elizabeth in the centre. It still looks good like this though. Great job and good luck in the contest!
  17. You're very good with LDD, operrier. Very nice ships, especially for such a scale. The colours and style of each ship are just perfect. If I were you, I would use the latest version (new cannons and trans-blue water), but using the old design of the HMS Endeavour. Good luck and I'm looking forward to those LEGO Harry Potter creations!
  18. Nice creation, Bjornu. It's a recognizable scene and it certainly looks like cannons are falling in and everything is being destroyed. I'm not a big fan of the cotton pieces though, I think light grey plates would look better. It also could use a bit of more details, like some cannon balls laying around. Good luck in the contest.
  19. Good job, HazyHunter801, it's quite recognizable. It's a very nice cut-out of the ship. I like the details like the various items laying around and that cannon. Perhaps the shelves with the ships in bottles would've been a nice touch. I recommend taking new pictures with a one-coloured background including an overall photo of your creation for better viewing. Good luck!
  20. Superb entry, sok117! Isla de la Muerta was my also my first idea and I wouldn't have done it differently. The overall creation looks very good with a lot of details in the treasures, the skeleton pirates, Jack and Barbossa fighting and of course the lovers who are ready to break the curse. The structure of the rocks also look good, but they could use a bit of light grey to create a little bit of differentiation (although the scenes in the cave were very dark). The water looks good with those trans blue 1x1 round plates, but perhaps a bit too wild. As I remember there were only puddles of calm water. Good luck in the contest!
  21. I actually liked this opening scene and it set the mood. Nice entry, Horry. You've captured the feeling quite well with the depressing colours and the disposed bodies. It's still recognizable despite the artistic freedom and despite having no official minifigures. What also could have worked: no walls but just the balcony and the death row. It would perhaps have been even more depressing. Good luck!
  22. Mister Phes, I'm not here to start a mutiny. I was just sharing my thoughts. I'm more against the whole bonus points idea, which makes the contest confusing. If people really feel the need to award points to themselves, then they should do so. If everyone starts to do it, then who says I won't be doing it.
  23. Nice rendition of this famous scene, Captain Genaro. Like many others, I find this one of the better scenes in all of the PotC films. It introduces Jack Sparrow in his own peculiar way. Your creation matches the scene well, with a couple of recognizable parts like the mast, the desk and the harbor master with the kid. The docks are appropriately untidy and the shape of the docks is also nice. The water looks a bit weird with those black edges, perhaps putting it on a couple of blue plates would make it look better. Good luck!
  24. It's a nice little ship, Holko. It looks a bit tall, but the holes are a nice touch. The rigging also makes it look better than before. Perhaps white sails instead of golden would've been better. Nice job and good luck.
  25. Excellent rendition of the scene, Fat Tony! The rocks looks very natural, great job on that. I imagine that the cage must've took you a while to make as it looks quite complicated. The structure of bones look perfect and certainly better than LEGO's simple version. The bridge is also a nice detail. It's the photography that really does it for me. It looks like screens from a film. The background colour, the colours, the lightning, the positioning, it all looks superb. Good luck!
