Heroica RPG - Cruel Angel's Thesis ~ Day One

I meant that if a Nephilim got the glass, he could publicly use it on another Nephilim, and tell us, "That guy's Town", then pass the magnifying glass to that guy, who would use it on another Nephilim, say "that guy's town", and so on.- 630 replies

I would disagree. I'd want to RNG the list of our names in the first post myself, or have Brienne or someone who's been more sensible than you do it.- 630 replies

Heroica RPG - Cruel Angel's Thesis ~ Day One

Kharybdis pointedly ignored the old Nord. She knew that he would lose interest in her quickly and move on to the next woman who caught his eye, the lecherous buffoon had the attention span of a gnat. Okay, so she had slept with him once or twice when she was new to the surface world and still naive about the ways of the land-dwellers. It had helped dull the pain from her divorce, and he had seemed like such a gallant fellow. Of course, there was no such thing as chivalry in Eubric, as she had been quick to discover when she found the raider rolling around on the floor with a barmaid... in the middle of a Quest, no less. Just thinking about it made her blood boil. Deep breaths... 1... 2.. 3... Don't want to end up writhing about on the floor as an octopus. Gotta keep my temper under control. She figured they called him 'Ox' because of his stupidity and he had tacked 'strong' on there himself. Her patience was rewarded when Skrupp took some pale lass down to the wine cellar, the noises of their passionate lovemaking easily audible in the main hall. She rolled her eyes and began to mingle with a group of heroes, some of whom were familiar and some of whom she;d never met before. They were planning on pooling Gold to purchase a Magnifying Glass, although there were of course squabbles about trustworthiness. She stepped up and asked, "Well, as far as I can tell it seems only abilities are tallied at the end of the day, not all actions. As such, we'd be stuck on an honor system, which would make passing around the magnifying glass hard to trust (at least initially) since if a Nephilim gets it they could just claim their scumbuddies to be good and pass it to them, so on and so forth. My idea is that we write all our names on a parchment and use a RNG spell to randomize it, then give the magnifying glass to number 1, who checks and gives it to number two, and so on. That way the only way a Nephilim could escape notice is if there was a Nephilim directly above him on the list... and once we've found someone who we all agree to be trustworthy, they can backcheck the unsure results."- 630 replies

That was a good read. Now I have to wonder if there's going to be another 'Sandy Plotline' about the nine archdevils and Zoot besides the main plot line about the Wolfgang and houses. (Right now we have Abraxas-Darkness?-Pride Mephistopheles-Ice-Gluttony Marilith-Fire?-Vengeance ???-Lightning-Wrath/Avarice/Sloth/Lust/Envy/Other ???-Earth-Wrath/Avarice/Sloth/Lust/Envy/Other ???-Wind-Wrath/Avarice/Sloth/Lust/Envy/Other ???-Wood-Wrath/Avarice/Sloth/Lust/Envy/Other ???-Water-Wrath/Avarice/Sloth/Lust/Envy/Other Zoot/Azazot?-Light-Wrath/Avarice/Lust/Envy/Other , correct? If Vengeance is one of the two non-7-capital-vices, then it may be safe to assume that Despair is the other as it was one of the Eight Evil Thoughts that contains the other 7 Deadly Sins/Capital Vices. I'm also not sure if Azazot is one of the nine or is above them, but I have him tentatively down for Light.)

Time for another archive binge, I suppose.

Ah, they must have been revealed while I was gone. Do The Dragonlord, Sand Queen, or Copper Fox have names yet, or are they still only known by their aliases?
-
Confirmed, as the others have said, to be the veteran known as 'The Falconer'. We also know 'The Copper Fox', 'The Sand Queen', and 'The Dagonlord'.

I think he's either undead, or mutated/disfigured by an unfinished version of the Elixir of Life. Robot or cyborg would make sense considering he's lived for apparently 200+ years, but being an alchemist's guild I'd say something to do with an immortality experiment gone wrong is more likely. Maybe he's using Horcruxes, and his heart (soul, actually) is already broken.

Fingers crossed for something cool... Beast Warrior or Dragoon would be nice, those are cool classes Arasmyth will never choose to be. -
Heroica RPG - Cruel Angel's Thesis: Discussion

I understand the rules and want to play. -
#35: He died, which is set to influence almost all his future character development (he views his life as on lease from Ethereth and will try his darnedest to find his 'destiny' and accomplish it, while also working to regain his ability to use magic [he thinks that Ethereth has taken his magic as 'security' and that he will regain it when he has proven his dedication to completing his destiny) #17: He forged a friendship with Arthur and Althior here, who were really the two Heroes he interacted with the most before dying. #9: Not much happened here besides meeting Althior.

So psyched. Nothing like anniversary celebrations to welcome one back into the game!

Idea 4 sounds amazing, actually. I'd love to see, say, how you would've run a Lion Knight storyline or how Brickdoctor would've done a Wren story.

I think that collaborative Quests (in the sense of co-QMing a Quest) would be cool. I know that I have a lot of ideas that I'd love to contribute to the world of Heroica, but I lack the photography or photo editing skills necessary to make QMing feasible, and I imagine I'm not the only one who'd like to QM but can't because of a limited LEGO collection, photography skills, or other reasons that could be solved with a co-QM. (Speaking of my terrible photography skills: If I could get a half decent pic of Arasmyth from somebody, that'd be great. He uses Eglor's torso from Chima with dark blue arms and yellow hands, these legs, silver Ninjago shoulder armor, Laval's dark blue cape, this head or this head, and this hair in dark brown or black. He holds a longbow and either a Sapphire or a bolt of blue lightning from Castle 2007 or Garmadon's staff in Ninjago. Thanks much!)

I've always had elves capable of growing facial hair in my head-canon. But it is considered scruffy and un-beautiful to do so, so until they've reached an age at which point they no longer are looking for love, they can forget about shaving if they feel like it. Arasmyth grew his out on purpose so as to make himself look older and wiser.

Arasmyth originally spoke in The Ancient Language from Christopher Paolini's The Inheritance Cycle, but since Arasmyth met Nerwen I've been making an effort to use Quenya whenever possible through online phrase books, as it seems to be the default Elvish of Heroica. For example, his new bow is named Suume, which is supposed to mean 'gust of wind'. Even though it's not much, it's things like looking things up in an online phrase book that makes the difference between having your character be multilingual and actually making multilingual one of your character traits. Not saying that either is wrong, of course, but that's how I view it so that's how I play it. Once Arasmyth has gone on a couple Quests now that he's back, I'll feel more comfortable reviewing somebody's character (and therefore opening Arasmyth to review) because right now I feel his default position is 'the lancer' or 'the funny guy' and I'd like him to become more than that, but I don't want to rush it (and actually, 'the lancer' is really where I want him to be, it's 'the funny guy' that I want to move away from. Humor is an essential part of Arasmyth's character (in my magic theory [which is based on leylines and ties elements to emotions] Wind is tied to amusement) and I don't want him to lose that, but I want him to be a hero who is defined by his actions and highlighted by his comic relief, not the other way around. As such, the best way for me to do that (again, in my opinion) is to wait for natural opportunities rather than trying to create them... Which means waiting for another 'big' story arc to get in on, as those are frequently the best places to alter your character's worldview, while lighter stand alone quests are better for honing character details already revealed or showing sides of the character not present in the default 'dire, battle-threatened, danger-fraught' life of a Hero.

His facial hair just hasn't had time to grow back in yet. Also, he's Jesus.

"The pleasure is all mine. Arasmyth RuGard, elven aeromancer extraordinaire, at your service. Thanks much." Arasmyth was glad that the elf didn't seem to recognize him, it would have been unbearably awkward if someone who knew he was dead walked up to him and started a conversation. Luckily, the elf appeared to have joined sometime in the past year, so he could put off explanations for a while longer. Glancing towards the barren Questboard, he quickly realized why most of the Heroes he knew weren't in the Hall. Out on the last wave of Quests still, or perhaps making trouble or carousing in the streets while waiting for new Quests to be posted.
-
Ditto on both counts! Thanks for welcoming me back, I've missed you guys. I'm sure Arasmyth will be happy to show such a pretty elf Mage the ropes.
-
That was the plan - female dwarf rogue. However, because I had to be gone for almost a year, I felt it'd be easier to catch up and get back into the game with an established character rather than a new one.
-
Hehe, Arthur really only took one scroll. Ad-Hoh took both of his gems. More on topic, I think that a Wolfgang quest where they weren't the antagonists, while it would be helpful, seems a bit heavy handed. "look, they're not bad guys! We made a whole quest about it!" I think that QMs should just throw in things like a couple of Wolfgang thugs giving gold to a guy on the street, or busting up a slave auction, into their quests just on the side, instead of a couple of Wolfgang thugs shaking down heroes for money. Once they've been sort of established in a positive light, then a Wolfgang centric quest whose plot hinges on the heroes siding with the, would be more feasible. That's just my opinion, of course.

Arasmyth opened the doors to the hall, striding in proudly with his new bow strapped to his back. He waltzed up to Scheherazade's bar and ordered a glass of her finest wine and a large meal. Death made one hungry, it turned out. No quests were open, so the elven Evoker had time to kick back his feet and re-acclimate to the atmosphere of the hall. Lots of new heroes, not many he recognized. He didn't feel the need to start a conversation, so he simply sat back and watched.
-
Arasmyth stopped at the cemetery before entering the Hall for the first time since his resurrection, dug up his own grave, and began stealing all of his stuff. He noted that he was missing his Sapphire and Aquamarine, but his magic priblem rendered that point moot for the moment. Luckily, several puches of coins had been left at the grave, so he took those, too. He then went to the Marketplace and stopped by Anwyl's smithy. "Haven't seen you in a while, mage. Wanna getcher staff upgraded?" "No, actually, the opposite. Please remove the sapphire from my staff, then I will sell the staff to you. Then I'll take a bow, which you can imbue with my sapphire and topaz and upgrade to WP: 8." Anwyl: 432-50 (remove gem)=382. 382+30 (WP:6 staff sold)=412. 412-50 (bow)= 362. 362-100 (2 gems imbued)=262. 262-210 (60+70+80 for WP upgrade)=52. Arasmyth proceeds to Fabian's fashion, where he buys a Ranger's Quiver (52-20=32) and then to Portia's Potion Shack where he buys a Grand Tonic (32-30=2).
