The whatever reason was cutting the theme short because it failed to meet expectations. Ultimately most kids don't care about LotR, and for grandparents buying gifts other options will feel safer. The problem with making a properly minifig scale Minas Tirith is that unless it isn't Minas Tirith, but a tiny (compared to the whole thing) bit, it just isn't feasible in any way, shape or form. Though I guess we had precedent for such things this year with "The Shire", but whatever. As for the "pleasing some" thing, the issue is that it also displeases others. And I have a feeling I'd likely be in the latter group...

I'd also argue that the lack of interior scenes for Barad-Dur helped the designers - they may not have anything to go off, but that meant they can do anything, as long as it fits in a dark lord's tower. Whereas Minas Tirith had limited interior sets, they weren't all that interesting, but skipping them will make (some) people riot. To be honest I feel it would be better if they skipped Minas Tirith altogether - no matter what they do, a loooooot of people will be really disappointed. And probably not without a reason... It ain't going to happen. At most we'll get what we had this year and supposedly next - a bigger "location" set and some misc thing to put on a shelf (book nook, bust, dunno what else they'd do, Gandalf's hat? buildable Rings of Power?).

I feel Minas Tirith will disappoint one way or the other. Beyond doing it in architecture scale there really isn't a good way to capture the whole thing, and while in Rivandell they managed to combine select scenes into a glorious display, it also didn't have a shape anyway near as iconic as MT. Meanwhile doing it Barad-Dur style means you don't have a way of doing most of the scenes in the movie (since they're outside), while the interiors you have are kinda meh (the throne room and the pyre of Denethor)...

And the number of people buying other lego sets and themes also increased. I have some doubts the increase in this particular sector was so much bigger than in the others to make it a truly viable option (at least from the perspective of Lego).

Lego clearly doesn't believe neither Castle nor LotR are viable for a full theme. I doubt they'd consider doing a CMF series catering to the groups specifically (we had the DND one recently, but that one was even more broad, appealing to fans of fantasy in general, Castle and people with a DND/RPG background who could be pulled towards lego. Also, the original lego LotR theme launched alongside a Castle theme, included battlepacks, and apparently didn't do all that well.

Yes, they are moulded - in place of minifigs. An unique exception for a 3-in-1. -

Ah, sorry about - clearly wasn't fully awake when posting ;) -

They didn't because 3-in-1 sets in principle don't use moulded animals (stuff like frogs aside). The unicorn castle has them, but in place of actual minifigs. Would you prefer moulded horses and brick-built knights? -

The rock base eats up a ton of pieces (and isn't the most exciting thing to build), and the modularity gimmick caused some... less than sensible design choices. -

Considering how long it usually takes, it will probably launch closer to late 2026. Definately not this year. -

There is one caveat here - both the Serpent from the new 3-in-1 and the Griffins use the Zelda shield mould. Which could mean it doesn't end up on PAB, due to being a licensed theme piece originally (also see the Palpatine/Nazgul hood not being there). It would suck, but could happen. And it would fit with those two factions not having their symbols on the torsos - so you could pair them with any matching shield... -

Isn't that the standard for torsos that come with dedicated printed legs? -

One thing prevents the MF from being the best castl set ever (interiors aside) - coming from BDP and thus either dealing with scalpels or having to manually sort all the pieces :P And I'd say it goes beyond the level of detail - the interior for the LKC just feels better designed. -

In a shocking twist the Horse Knights actually get two sets of prints. And the Snake feels very useful. -

This. Anyone going in expecting more is setting themself up for disappointment. -

Indeed, it is just a small part of the build that is yellow, specifically the circled bit here. -

Better bright yellow than the minifig "skin" yellow we had last time. -

Dark blue with white/silver accents sounds very nice, getting 4 Horse Knights, even better. Now we just need pictures. Pity about the actual horses though... -
Barad-Dur gave us the whole thing. And it was an important place, even if not much happened there on screen/page. The White Tower is just one of many structures in Minas Tirith, with a marginal role in the story beyond the things that happened in the throne chamber (which plenty of people won't even remember is there)
-
Yeah, it definately would need to be more expensive than Barad-Dur. To make it look decent it would need to be much wider and at least a bit deeper, while in height I'd say you'd probably skip the final tower segment of BD. At best. if BD is a 460$ set, that would probably start somewhere around 600$... Possibly more in some countries, depending on the tariffs in place...

Seeing how we're getting something that is most definately an actual castle at the same time, I wouldn't be surprised if the unicorn one was a bouncy castle... -

Thing is, that unless they plan a big castle set, they are also basically useless. -
Lucky bastard. I ordered a few minutes after launch, still didn't ship. And I hoped to relax building it over the weekend...

And that way disappointment is born. As MAB said, smaller sets aren't currently on the table (the book nook is its own thing, doesn't count here), but even if they were, I would sooner expect a 70$ gate having 2 soldiers and 2 orcs, each side getting 1 shield...
