Thanks for that. I meant the text above the title but under the pic; the smaller bit, which not everyone has.SirNadroj's was "Crafty MOC Pirate Builder" or something like that... :-$ -
I've searched high and low accross England to find this...and it's nowhere! I'm too stingy to buy off S@H and so I'll wait my turn. OK, now ot the set: Let's say I buy 3, for

Are Scala Elements in a 'System' Creation Legal?
SlyOwl replied to SirNadroj's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Any chance of a link? Oh and thanks a lot Sinner, you've got me off on a rubber-band-holder MOC! So much for any free time I was going to have! :-D -

OK...here goes: What is the difference between a Mod and Admin? What is the difference between Global Admin and Hyper Admin? Can I change my name? - I usually go by plain SlyOwl but I stuck a Cap'n in front because I thought it was a screenname like iin MSN and now I don't like it but can't change it... |-/ How do you get the text to appear under your display pic? - I've tried lots of ways but it still doesn't work? Are Scala Elements in a 'System' Creation Legal?
SlyOwl replied to SirNadroj's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I think if any part appears under Dacta, Lego or Samsonite on the main peeron themes tree, it is elegible for use in a MOC. If you ban Scala (which appears in a lot of sets, like RPP) then where do you stop? Jack Stone - fine. Duplo - NO WAY! I love it! In a sentimental sort of way. I also like the way the spades can be given to Maxi-figs! ;-) Would you ban the rubber band holders then? -
The hat...right...it's not actually red at all - it's the standard brown one but it came out slightly wierd after I enchanced the colours to improve the photo (I didn't enchance the other photos in the file, here, so it's less obvious). Unfortunately I'm colour blind so it looks the same to me! :-$ If you really must know, I won Secret Of The Sphinx in a ballet competition...no, I don't dance, my sister went and entered a raffle for it... :-D Then I stole it 'cos she don't like Lego! >:-( There's actually not a single technic piece in it! Complicated, yes, but that's my style for my animals... X-D

Oh, you also missed out Ironhook's evil twin - the one with 2 legs and a different face...he does put paid to the thought that Ironhook is just Redbeard's shipwrecked self... :-$ Drink up me hearties, Yo Ho!

The Crazy Castle: Humorous Triple Vignette
SlyOwl replied to SirNadroj's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Nice, but... THey look more like a piano to me! :-D -
What I think we're saying about vigs is that if you start with an 8x8 base, you can overlap as far as 2 studs on each side, so effectively using a 12x12 with no overlap (which looks funny IMO :-D). Alternatively you could use a system of "overlap points" where you can overlap onto, say, 30 square studs worth of area, but no more. This means if you have a dinosaur tail sticking out, you can spend a lot of points on including it but you're restricted elsewhere. Similar to this, you could use a 150 square stud area limit (no overlap) but it doesn't have to start 8x8 - you can go have a square one or long and thin. Alternatively to limit vig sizes, a piece count could be imposed. :-( N.B. Extra square stud area and piece counts can be purchased from me. X-D

Glad to help. I did notice from the photos that you had the same trouble I often have with the leg "studs" breaking off. :-D Can't solve that one! I've added a more refined tutorial onto BS, here.

POLL: Pirate Halloween Contest Voting Begins HERE!!!
SlyOwl replied to Scouty's topic in LEGO Pirates
I agree - to me its an excellent MOC with little to do with pirates. The word pirate is not mentioned once in the whole story...the whole post even! That I find disappointing. As for the obviously possessed 4+ guys - I mean they'd be a match for Hagrid, Jun-Chi, the Yeti, Creator figs, Jack Stone :-X , Technic dudes *wub* or Duplo people *sweet* . I can't quite imagine Fabuland people fighting though - those Duplo people sure are mean compared to them! And shouldn't there be a funniest poll? - It said make it as scary or as funny as you like... -
England - Hamleys always has some Lego, but at rip-off prices and a very poor selection Harrods is even more of a rip-off than Hamleys and an even more limited selection Gamleys is a rip-off of Hamleys but has normal prices, all the same deals as S@H but never seems to have any Castle or Technic :-( It doesn't do the bigger sets either. Argos has most sets, but few smaller ones Woolworths is terrible and their service lousy

I found these in "Replacement Parts"
SlyOwl replied to LEGO Maniac JEM's topic in General LEGO Discussion
All these sets look mediocre, except the fruits are RUBBISH, IMO. There's bo special pieces (except some colours) and they're extremely unplayable. *n* However, the fireman set looks awesome. Yes, he can exitnguish the flames, but the ladder has 2 uses - as a ladder and as a catapult - you bend it back and off he flies! This is similar to a studios set. -
Here's my entry, delayed because of camera problems (my batteries ran out 5 times when taking photos! :'-( ) I took "How do you kill a skellie?" literally. How do you kill something that's alive? You make it dead. How do you kill something that's dead? You make it alive. Deep underground in a caring but mad king's torture chambers, new sounds ring out. The sounds of a few very generous peasants willingly donating various body parts to a good cause. All sorts of ointments are used to preserve the stripped flesh and, of course, replacement limbs are given. The flesh, organs and fluids are passed on to another minion, who carefully attaches them to a captured, once rampant, skeleton. Great dollops of flesh; spleens hanging from the rafters; cauldrons of blood - it's tough work. Eventually you end up with a new human, ready to be put to labour in a deep pit to amend for its skeleton's wicked deeds. Also you get a lot of mutilated peasants and phsycologically insane soldiers. :-X Enjoy!

Hmm... To me, Imperial Trading Post edges it, simply becaus eof the beautiful ship. They're both great sets but one's got to win! I also feel the Eldorado Fortress' colour scheme lets it down - the mighty Skull's Eye Schooner doesn't want to attack a fortress made of cheese! A harbour made of cheese, however... *wub*

Thanks for that - it really doesn't help my Lego that I'm colour-blind!!! :'-) I now use him as the REAL Ironhook's evil twin! Great fun!

If you want the actual minifig with detachable parts and all: 1. Remove hands, arms and legs. 2. Using a craft knife, incise around the bottom of the torso, deep enough to cut through the glue but not to damage the legs. I would advise having the knife slightly onto the legs as they're less valuable than the torso. This may damage the "studs" on top of the hips, but they're easy to replace. You could just pull and pull but this can damage the pins. 3. Pull away the hips. 4. Grip the chain bit in pliers and bend the nearest loop to the minifig's head back and forth until it snaps. There should now be no blockage in the way of the metal thing sliding out. 5. Using a tool/bent wire/scissors/pliers/cut up bit of metal/etc of some form in the shape of a V (I like to use flattened needle nose pliers or my custom screwdriver, specially filed to the perfect shape for minifig heads), insert it under the head. Use it like a lever and the head should pop off. 6. I've not found a way yet of filling in the hole in the top of the torso or the headgear or seperating the head from the hair/hat/helmet, but I don't think this matters. This method worked like a dream on my Majisto keyring. :-P

So you never swap minifig hands/hooks over? :-| And I vote for... UniqueBuilder - uh, good but simple Luxorv - uh, sweet but I don't really like the raptor Eccohawk - uh, too big and proffesional (looks like it was built before the contest too) SlyOwl - uh, nice dino; apparantly you're not allowed to use minifig hands?! :-D I will use my democratic right not to vote...yet... My entry was built before the contest, for a different one and so doesn't really fit - I entered it to beef up the numbers. ;-)
-
Sam Grant WAS his original name, before it got changed to Johnny Thunder. The fig I used is the original, from the Desert and Jungle themes. As for the hands - problem? They're Lego pieces, right? ;-) Hmm...Eccohawk...I guess I just can't compete against the proffesionals... :-(

I never keep MOCs or sets up for more than a fortnight and the bricks all get handled a lot, so I rarely clean anything. Dusty eBay stuff I clean with hot water and a nail brush. One unfortunate incident I had was when I spilt molten wax all over a base plate. I still haven't got it all off - I don't want to scratch it but I want the wax off - what do I do?!

The box is has really strange dimensions - it's very flat but has a large front - the 1:1 scale. Regarding the spines, because they're made of the softer non-ABS plastic (the stuff the 1994 cutlasses and brown muskets were made of), they lose their shape a bit and so are hard to grip; they simply fall off. I suppose TLC use loads of different colours because a single or two-colour dino isn't very nice to look at, especially when the surface isn't very smooth - it takes your eyes away from the surface and puts it on the colours. Someone should make an all terrain dino that can walk everywhere from this set - I don't have the skill with technic - I always end up layering and never finish any models. :-(

I voted for *yoda* in the whack because when I came across the photo on BS before I came across this competition, it struck some deep chord within me - I don't know what it was but it reminded me of a birthday when I was 4... *wub* I didn't like the spoofs as much ( *yoda* didn't quite cut the beef for me there) but I voted for Sinner as his whacking entry pushed him above the others... *sweet*

My entry is complete...it's not exactly fitting with the others - more a philosophical turn! :-/ I can't photograph it yet; thanks to daylight saving time, when I leave for school, it's too busy to do it and when I come home it's pitch black... :'-( I use a close up digital camera with a flash, which casts shadow over everything an druins any Lego photo, so I do it outside in reasonably bright daylight, to turn the flash off. Guess I'll just have to wait for the weekend. :-( That also explains why I won't be uploading much to BS before Christmas...
