I really like how this set looks, but the system-ery of it annoys me (I'm just nitpicking, because it's mostly the cabin, but then again it wouldn't matter that much to the target audience). But the main function is the front blade that seems to works very well and that's the cherry on the top of the cake for me :)) If possible, Lego should make a 2-set pack of 42168 + 42136, it'd be nice to see, considering the two would go well together.

MOCs versus sets
PlopiNinetySix replied to PlopiNinetySix's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I agree with you about most things here; the Zetros definitely is missing a lot of stuff. Lego could've really make this set justice. Still personally I like it (hate the stickers of it, and the sets looks so, so much better without them) for what it is. A few modifications to fix the problems you've mentioned and we'd get a really nice trial truck from Lego itself. Regarding the question itself, I think that if I for example had built a trial truck MOC (or some off-roader similar to it), most changes the Zetros will be better than it (although in MOCs there's always room for improvement ;P). Kinda...? This description goes well with the stuff I've been building on Stud.io recently (actually I just build in a smaller scale that makes no sense for say, a wheel loader to be designed in) -
MOCs versus sets
PlopiNinetySix replied to PlopiNinetySix's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I agree about 42053 and 42054, great stuff. I think 42114 is comparable to MOCs because of its completedness (according to Wiktionary this is actually a word :P). It looks clean, accurate to its real-life counterpart so much, and way better than its 42030 (which would be amazing to see as another Volvo loader facelifted for the Ctrl+ components). I see^^ I personally think the Zetros could have a 3rd axle like that obscure prototype of it, but it looks and functions well for a Lego truck. Not suited the best for outdoors but it's still qualifies, at least for me as close to a trial-truck Lego could have produced. -
Hey everyone, I got this kinda question floating around my head now and felt like it could have a discussion here. Which Technic sets, in your opinion/s, are the closet to similar MOC counterparts, or even better? Basically, which LT sets are so good/well-designed/excellent/awesome [and other superlatives alike], that these could potentially reach the standard/s of a MOC? *I have to note here that all MOCs (of some vehicle/machine) vary in standards, designs and functions, so this question might be a bit ambiguous Some of mine would be 42145, 42114, 42043.

Yep, can't argue with that- (the thing I meant about diecast models wasn't specifically Lego-related, but rather some other companies selling these supercar/licensed models that could look prettier than a Technic set to most non-fans; (that's not the best comparison actually) but since we know Lego won't release such items/sets in the future, I get your point); -these still appeal to many for the tons of dfferent panels and curved pieces in various colors that are a great pieces source to similar MOC supercars/other related vehicles (also bcuz they're cool cars, forgot to add that). Agreed with you, that's a good perspective.

That's agreeable, but on the other hand, the majority that's into Technic is all of us Lego fans who are for sets that can combine functionality and looks in balanced way (licensed or not). I don't really see the point of people that aren't that much into Lego casually buying something in the standard of 42125, considering they could buy some model/diecast/collectible thingy (edit again, my bold font here is stuck specifically in this section of the comment), considering well... it's Technic and system cars are more recognizable to most, at least imho

THIS! Licensed sets are cool and all, but Lego has REALLY gone off the railroad recently... So many Technic sets are now licensed for the sake of outer appearence rather than functionality which destroys the whole point of Technic, and yet are labled as "18+" (I'm looking at you 42125). I'd rather have a single unlicensed set than a billion super cars which are have the same functions...

Got a question about building a proper gearbox that doesn't take a massive space of a vehicle. Basically I like to build small in a scale that's either close to Madoca's wing body truck and the 42024~42008 scale, it's my favorite one. So there isn't really enough space to fit all the gears and the housing for the gearbox in the chassis, like I planned, and it just turned out to be a 1/5 of the whole vehicle, completely leaving the back seats section with no space at all (behind every real car some seats would appear, but on my design, you see gears. And clutch gears. And driving rings.). I tried getting a realistic gearbox unit at first that's placed at the front section like in the interior of real cars, but I didn't work. I'd also like to give myself some constructive criticism: So I didn't built the chassis of the car first. I first built the gearbox because that's the most complicated thing for me. But then I realized that I cannot house a transmission (=speed) gearbox if I don't make a proper frame for it. Now I am going to finish this design, because it actually goes well, but lesson learned for future builds! So the thing is, how to design a good, compact gearbox that has a decent number of speeds (I originally planned 6-speeds, then I reduced (?) it to 5, I'm actually not sure how many there are now. Regaradless there are 3 driving rings arranged linearly) not too big and fits the car properly, like in real vehicles/cars? (I know there are many, many examples hovering all over the internet, although I really want to know how to design my gearboxes well just like most talented MOC builders out there do) Thanks in advance!

Thank you!! Yea, I watched the series when I was younger [not all of it, but I definitely remember it]. Underrated as hell. I almost completely forgot about it when I finally heard about it in a Wiki last year, it's been years (also I never knew how TUFF Puppy was called in English till recently XD)!

3rd option for me. I have a few reasons: -First, they're B-models. It's always awesome. Just the thought of "Yea I like the A-model, I've built it, what else the set has to offer?" Then the realization that a second build exists from the same set with the same pieces, is awesome. I didn't build many B-models but it always added a sense of life and quality to the set. Also the option of building B-models digitally or from the Lego Technic instructions app was always appreciated and fun. Imho building a B-model is just as satisfying as the A-model. -Second, the sense of difference from the A-model. Many B-models are basically similar vehicles/machines to match their A-model counterparts [not always, some don't and nothing wrong with that]. There's always criticism that the B-models are worsely designed, and yes, that's true, but not always. Like 42008- amazing A-model, and a pretty good B-model that's basically 2 sections: crane truck and a trailer to go with it. It didn't look the best, but in regard to playability and functionality, a really good one. -Third, (this mightn't be my strongest opinion, it's similar to my first reason, but I think the point still stands)- B models kinda act as a gate for the MOC world. Like, they give inspiration of 'After you disassembled the set, see its pieces. See the B-model. Try it and make something similar with those pieces.' sort of thing. I'll use 42008 [also 42043 was a strong motive here] as an example once again because this set is nostalgically and memorably engraved in my mind (it's a little of a vague memory, but I mostly remember it due to photographic memory)- So some time after taking apart the B-model, some idea came to my mind; that is to build a trailer-crane truck, something very similar to 42008 and 42043's B using my Lego collection at the time. After some hours of building something I've succeed in building a trailer [with 42008 pieces, mostly, but also those of 42009] gearbox that controls a crane at the back of the trailer bed. I was ridiculously happy with the result because it seemed to really work well, and was probably one of my first complicated Technic MOCs till today. It was unfinished and later on taken apart. Discontinued or not, I will always appreciate the existence of B-models in the Lego Technic line. :P

As others had previously said before, a lack of B-models is not the worst thing to happen to Technic considering the massive amount of talented MOC builders on EB and in the whole Technic community as a general, there'll be almost always a B/C-model that's better than the A-model [AKA Lego's] :) But, still the party ends considering B models are dying. Technic, at least the larger sets and vehicles, doesn't feel the same without a fun B-model to go along with the A-model or be actually better than it in some regards [42078!]. Quite some sets did that amazingly like 42055. Another example which might not be the best is 42030. Its B-model obviously pales in comparison to the 42114 but you could still do some with it if you covered the gaps and holes of the bed. A wasted potential, really, for some awesome sets like 42144 or 42145. I really hope the summar releases won't disappoint, as the space theme already marked a very good start for 2024.

The second wave seems, at least to me, less exciting than the 1st wave. 42163 is quite nice as a starter set for young kids and it reminds of the 9391's B model (9391 was one of my first Technic sets, if not the first). 42163 looks much better. 42164 is... I dunno. But the lime is awesome! 42166 as a pull back is cool, I'm in love with the pull back line but why another licensed car? 42167 feels like a city set (well, the age is 8+ so obviously lol) It would go well as a pack with 42163. Actually quite a good looking and functioning truck, we definitely need more garbage trucks in the Technic line. 42168 is nice, bonus points for combine harvesters! Now... why almost [if not all of] the entire line is tiny sets? Where are the big sets [if any are to be released this year]? Also RIP B-models. Thank you for reading my unprofessional yet opinionated talk.

Basically I'm trying to know there exists a newer visual user guide considering that the original one says that it's not updated to today's EB. Mostly because I wanna learn how to post stuff right^ Thanks in advance btw^

Hey there, I have a question about the EB Visual User Guide Quote, "NOTICE: This guide is outdated as of the Sept 21, 2016 upgrade. The guide will be updated to the new site once the rest of the bugs are squished". So my question is... Is the guide now updated or there exists a new one? I'm still new to this :P
