I'm a big fan of that design. I have never owned it but I watched the review by Jangbricks, among many I have watched of his! I really wanted to replicate those old design ideas and how ships and parts detached and moved in clever ways, using simple techniques
-
Thank you for your kind words!
-
Thank you, having the ships separate was how the whole idea got started. I wanted to do something that wasn't Technic pins or clips
-
Thank you, I tried to do something unique with the tower, I am glad you like it!

Thank you for the kind words. I one day hope to own the Saucer Centurion as it is on my wish list I'm glad my design got your attention. The canopies are the hardest part of designing ships for the BDP since we are very limited, and for this, I wanted to use the same canopy or at least the same color canopy for the control tower. There was 1 trans yellow, and I thought it was a bit too round (I suppose I can take another look if this version doesn't pass).

The Galaxy Starship Carrier is my latest Classic Space-inspired submission to Series 11 of the Bricklink Designer Program. When I began to design this submission, I wanted to make sure that whatever I came up with was as true in look and build to Classic Lego Space sets from the late 1970s through to the start of Futuron. You can support this BDP Series 11 submission through the link: https://www.bricklink.com/v3/designer-program/series-11/4943/Galaxy-Starship-Carrier

This article on Brickset gives a great breakdown of the Deep Space Explorer - https://brickset.com/article/129984/bdp-series-10-deep-space-explorer

I do have a video from when I built the older version, if it is not selected this round, I will probably part out what I need and do another video. Just ran out of time this round. I was changing things right up to the deadline because I kept having new ideas

I was really trying to get as much modularity out of the design as possible. I try to design things that look interesting but also have playability and could be built with others. In this case, I think this would be a great way to introduce kids to the awesomeness that is Classic Space

The Deep Space Explorer is my latest submission to the Bricklink Designer Program Series 10. The design, colors, and parts used are based on Classic Space sets, mostly up to 1987. This ship is comprised of 21 separate components that assemble into 1 main ship or can be assembled into multiple ships and land bases, all using the original connection style from Classic Space of Modified Bricks with Technic pins and Technic Bricks. My latest submission - Azure Islands - to the Bricklink Designer Program Series 9 is now live, please support through the link - https://www.bricklink.com/v3/designer-program/series-9/3287/Azure-Islands and you can also see my interview with Steve at the Imagination Brickshop where I go into detail about the design

Below is one of my entries to the BDP. I like to think it is unique, I call it: Outta this World Treehouse I kept the part count low (1,499) to make it affordable but with this design I wanted to do something different from the classic space designs. I have other entries but this is my favorite because I didn't plan it out, I just built it (digitally in Studio). I used colors I don't typically use or combine and I also included glow in the dark parts because my 5 year old really likes those and I think they work in the design! https://www.bricklink.com/v3/designer-program/series-5/1549/Outta-This-World-Treehouse
