  1. Now that I finally understand what was said... Isn't this what most people would refer to as "growing out of it"? We all reach an age at some point where certain toys are no longer interesting and feel like either we're too old for it, or the toys are aimed at a much younger audience. As for dumbing down sets... I can only say things change and while we may not agree, we have little choice but to accept it. The beauty of Lego was always that it targeted a very wide age range with different series. I loved town and space in childhood, at some point castles started tickling me, and later I got into more complex Technic builds. Then I grew out of it, only to return as an AFOL almost 3 decades later I'm not bothered by certain sets being targeted at a younger audience. I've just accepted that not all of it still appeals to me. So I focus on what still does. I value quality much more over quantity now. @Black Falcon The thing is that people who haven't been here as long have no clue what is being talked about. I'm not a native English speaker, but if this isn't a bad word and it's about people preferring not to hear it anymore, I feel censor is a rather harsh solution. We're all mature here, aren't we? I feel you on the Blacktron Cruiser and the Forest Hideout (that I don't own but looked into). But finish your Galaxy Explorer! I think it was well worth it and is in fact a complete remake!
  2. That is very true. I'm just sad to see 90% of businesses nowadays aim for that quick profit rather than long term customer appreciation, loyalty, and trust. The reason is simple though... It works (from a business pov), and fomo is easily exploited (almost nobody would NOT buy from a business anymore out of principle if that means they miss out on something). Loyalty was a much bigger thing when a shop owner around the corner had to look his customers in the eyes, rather than dealing with world businesses where the people making the decisions will never have to deal with the customers. (sorry for straying a bit offtopic, it's one of those things that really annoys me in life... we tend to forget we actually do have the power to demand change) The interstellar spaceship is imo the best thing of the series (but I'm a bit biased towards spaceships rather than bases or land vehicles). There's always room for a bigger spaceship in the series, right?
  3. While I personally agree with you there, I think this mostly applies to the fans who appreciate quality. Unfortunately that may just not be the majority of people who buy it. After all, a good business will make what sells best, right? And yeah I love those space themes, though I prefer late 80s over the 90s! The old still is among my favorites! I love the front of the new one, I just wish the middle had been sized up to stay in the same proportions with the larger canopy... and maybe have a more convenient way to open.
  4. I have mixed feelings about the Blacktron Cruiser remake myself. Love the front, but I like the middle better on the original (though sizing it up a bit behind the larger canopy would have worked great). Rear's fine but would have preferred the wings just trans red like the original. (and should I mention the stickers vs the printed parts on the original...?)
  5. Ohhh how have I missed this, this is an amazing creation! I love it when Technic allows for more worked out features, without showing too much on the outside. Amazing details on both inside and outside too!
  6. Welcome and good luck on your search! I know your situation too well. The good and wanted sets have only increased in value, and it's quite an investment to still get the old and loved sets you want... especially if you want them complete and without damage or faded colors. This investment can be either money... or time. It's just like Tom says, doing a search for specific model numbers or names on Bricklink or eBay, you'll get offers from people who know what it's worth and what they can ask for it. The alternative is a time investment, but it can be long and you can't know in advance if you'll ever find what you're looking for. The good deals are often from parents who clean up what their kid left behind when they left the house, or from a spouse when someone sadly passed away. It's those ads that just offer a "box of Legos" for a small price, or flea markets, or thrift stores that you can occasionally be very lucky with... or not.
  7. That's why I'm not gonna hope too much and just wait and see
  8. That's the problem nowadays, people getting too hyped over assumptions or just hopes. The more we expect, the bigger the disappointment. Expect nothing, and things can only get better. As for the black spaceship, there's no point being disappointed because we have absolutely no idea yet what it's gonna be like. Who knows is it really nice... or even easy to make passable as a Blacktron ship. That's what I'm hoping for at this point.
  9. I grew up long before numbered bags were a thing. As people said before, just spend a moment to sort everything and you'll be totally fine.
  10. Dining room table too, it's the biggest table in the house and since I'm mostly into larger builds, I really need that space.
  11. I feel ya. Nothing against the new sets but I miss the Space theme as it once was. Still, I'm very happy we got to see the new Galaxy Explorer (and sad I didn't manage to get more than 1, and they're already going way up above msrp in my region)
  12. I know of 2 Porsches: 42056 "Porsche 911 GT3 RS" (large orange Technic set from 2016) and 75895 "1974 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.0" (smaller white Speed Champions set from 2019). Do you remember what series and size set it was? Don't despair yet, there's a lot I don't know about that time period ;) I know there's been more but none in yelliow that I know of. Could it have been the orange one perhaps? (I've seen photos where the lighting makes it appear yellow)
  13. I made a difference between realistic and fantasy space for myself. Realistic being space shuttles, rocket launches (on earth), Mars missions, stuff like that (sorry I'm not too familiar with these). Fantasy being the space ships and bases from factions like Futuron, Blacktron, Space Police, and everything that came after it in the 90s. I always had mostly interest in the latter.
  14. That duster brush (not sure if it's the right word) I mentioned is pretty much the same as the blush brush, just a size up. Those things are really good to have in different sizes!
  15. Well we don't have a detailed idea yet what the movie is gonna be about... so the spaceship could still be anything! I'm generally not really interested in IP stuff but if it looks good and fits with my space themes (or can be made to fit without crazy cost or losing unique parts), I might still go for it. Time will tell.
  16. Wouldn't do that last one unless you have a fine filter to cover the drain with, or you might end up losing small parts if they come loose.
  17. I don't know if it's the best way, I tend to use a duster brush with the brush made of soft longer hairs so they get into the models. It's not perfect but it does the job for a good part. For smaller stuff I use a paint brush from similar soft hairs.
  18. Same here, though I was hoping for something other than the Renegade... Blacktron still would have been fine, I just don't like asymmetrical designs.
  19. My parents were dog people at the time so that was one less problem to deal with. Grew up to be a cat person myself and yeah, they sometimes pick the weirdest spots. And your Lego definitely isn't safe with them around
  20. @SpacePolice89 Totally agree there. Feels like some parents still have to learn to deal with having a different opinion than their kid, rather than enforcing their own (when it comes to liking or disliking this). Reading that thread makes me cringe big time... My parents never had issues with my Lego. They just had rules for me to clean it up at the end of the day that I had to obey (and they wouldn't roam the house barefoot). Problem solved. They even gave me a compact cabinet (intended for tools and bolts and screws and stuff) in which I was able to store it nicely sorted.
  21. Yes, searching with quotation marks is well known to me. Works great on Google but not on BL or RB (that I use the most atm).
  22. I must agree that search functions are often lacking. One other thing that tends to annoy me on many sites is when I search an older set or part that has less digits in its model number than modern ones, the modern ones appear first. For example I search for set 1234 (fictional number), it would show me 12341 to 12349 before 1234... so it only searches for "contains" my term, and is lacking a function for exact matches to be on top.
  23. I think it's gonna be hard to come up with a unique idea that hasn't been covered yet, with so many good platforms already in existence. Like there is Brickset as you already mentioned. Then there's Rebrickable for collection and MOC sharing and selling. Then there's Bricklink for sets and parts both, inventory management as well as wanted lists and being a platform offering to buy at the same time. I wish you the best of luck with your plans. 1 major tip I can give is to have a standard that's compatible with websites already in existence. One of the beauties with the existing sites is that I can export a list from one platform and import it on another. I feel a feat like that would be a must.
