Uh-oh. Very understandable, Danny. I'm going to hold off on QMing anything after this behemoth... atleast, that is what I tell myself. QMIng is a disease.
-
Short quest -just an aftermath showing what happens to Proggkind after you've murdered all of their vengeful leaders.
-
Who is this mysterious "he" you speak of? Also, after 48, I'm not sure if I should do: >Stealer of Senses, Part 2 >Completely Unrelated One-off quest involving the Sun and Moon >Progg Quest 0
-
Surprise? I've been foreshadowing The Regret since the beginning of the quest. You don't think I'd just leave a major antagonist idling around, did you?
-
But is it 48 difficult?

Heroica RPG - Quest #48: Death's Homecoming
Endgame replied to Endgame's topic in The Heroica Archive
QM Note: Defending makes your level fall by 2, not your SP. I had to balance for Minstrel. It did, B&P. It is only a 1 round thing though, so I didn't even record it in your stats - it already wore off, after all. -
"Ah, okay then. I was unare that you were interested in... indulign yourself in such manners. You never struck me as a seductress, Alexis." I was, at the very least, questioning her choice... but it wasn't my place to assert my belief.
-
"Ah, I apologize if I've interrupted your.. studies."
-
"Helped some Ziegrieds - or, children of them, rather. One of the Ziegfired boys got himself transformed into a frog, and we had to track him down. I wasn't aware there was a crime syndicate in Eubric dedicated entirely to just guarding a frogpond..."
-
I caress my temples as I walk into the hall, a blasted headache settling over my mind as I walk through Eubric. I was practcially falling apart at this point... So many heroes walk in with a myserious aura or a intriguing air, and I just waltz right on in with a migraine. I believe my father would call that "juxtaposition." I give a nod to the heroes I recognize as I walk across the hall, trying to find the table farthest from the window. Sunlight and poudning headaches do not mix... As I walk by Alexois's and Nerwen's table, I stop to give a quick hello. I rase my eyebrow as I catch a quick glimpse of the book Alexis was reading. By Helvetia, it must've been atleast 4 centureis since I last had a encounter like that - and yet, there she was, reading the encylopedia of them! "Nerwen, Alexis - how has life been treating you?" I turn to the Nord and offer my hand. "Ah, and you too. I'm Sorrow -pleasure to be of acquitance."

QM Note: 3,000th post! Huzzah! "You defy me, worm? That "heroic" blade is the one who brought this curse upon Luosh... How do you think Rhodus convinced the Progg Legion that his loss hadn't completely disgraced him? How do you think he proved that he wasn't a complete failure, and that Luosh deserved destruction? By presenting the blade of the hero he killed. You weild the very weapon that brought the deaths of hundreds of innocents! You fight me, Romulus... but though the scars may fade, the control I branded onto your body will linger forevermore. A puppet can never break free from the binds of his strings... he may rebel, but he eixsts only to serve his master's whims. Shame I'll have to dispose of such a good puppet when I wipe you all out." Defending self (+6 SP to self, Leel -2 to self) >Perfect Regret's Tail: Defensive Position! Defending Cataclysm Claw (+6 SP to Cataclysm Claw, -2 SP >Nemesis Scepter: Healing Position! Healing Cataclysm Claw (Cataclysm Claw unfragiled, -0 HP to self) The heroes, smoke still lingering in the air from the Phoenix Incense, continue battle with Perfect Regret. The round goes fairly well at the beginning. The sight of the Perfect Regret's arm severing from his body in a burst of darkness was still fresh in the heroes' minds, giving them hope to defeat the vile monster. They tussle for some time, until Perfect Regret grows weary of this struggle. His eyes, narrow slits from contempt and spite, widen... Beacons of light piercing through the unfathomable darkness inside the beast. Intricate runes seem to form on his crapace, glowing scriptures growing brighter and brighter with each passing moment. They slithered down each and every limb, oozing downwards, covering every inch of the abomination's body. Perfect Regret now thrummed with pure power, his entire body rippling with purple waves of ether. The charge up releases deafening white noise, a horrible drowning sound that sends the heroes staggering backwards. Some heroes yell over the deafening noise, sensing the impending doom about to befall them... "DAMMIT, NOT THIS AGAIN!" "THIS LOOKS WAY TOO FAMILIAR...!" "OH... OH N-NO...!" The party recalls the blast that had nearly decimated them once before, the devestating attack that Aranoc sacrificed himself to deflect... Was his sacrifice going to be for naught? Suddenly, with a roar of magic, a gargantuan beam of darkness erupts from Perfect Regret, it is as every bit as devestating as the party expected, the blast throwing them all in the air. It tears up the roof, tiles and bricks being thrown this way and that as the beam ravages the rooftop. The entire party hits the wrecked rooftop with a thud, their skulls nearly breaking from the impact. The world spins around them, a thick fog hanging in front of their vision as they bled out... A trail of ghoulish purple fire followed in the blast's wake, the falmes seering the heroes' senses. They draw sharp breaths, their entire body throbbing in pure pain as their vision blurred. They try their hardest to gather their thoughts, simply unable to realign themselves with the devestated reality around them. Was this how Prometheus felt? Was this the full magnitude of the hatred that had engulfed his heart? The battle rages on! "THE POWER OF DESPAIR KNOWS NO BOUNDS - ONLY ONE TRUE MASTER! To be fair, Flare did drop the stakes a bit. Originally it was going to be half of my stuff - it dropped to some consumables I used in battle, some Jinxy Juices, and a really nerfed-down Golden Venom. It went from a haymaker to the gut to a slap, so for that I am thankful. I already grilled Flare on this enough though in PM.
-
Well, if you go South enough, you eventually come back in the North, right?
-
I know there are plenty friendly rivalries in Heroica, but lets try to keep them that way, shall we? Suddenly throwing me (Why only me, by the way? Couldn't another random hero have gone?) into an impossible boss fight is not the way to do it... I don't want to see a cycle of revenges beginning in Heroica. I didn't even do a bloody thing to you anyway!
-
Well, we could've just killed them both. That'd be a bit too much force. Yes, please!
-
Q57: Overall, Flare, I liked it. It had that same sort of whimsical feeling as 42, with an equally quirky cast. Compared to other Heroica fare it was pretty lighthearted, a nice change of pace from all of the recent doom and gloom. Plus, Ziegfried rep! Yay! Your photography was crisp, and your battles balanced... for the most part, but more on that later. I am curious about what the ending sequence was about, though - was there a right answer? Sorrow Sidequest: Unsurpirsingly, i got my undead rear handed to me on a platter.
-
I give a nod goodbye to the two Ziegfried children and head for the door.
-
I'm assuming Sancho doesn't want to tell us the ??? item?

Bolstering Nemesis Scepter (+6 SP to Nemesis Scepter, Level -2 to self!) >Perfect Regret's Tail: Neutral position. >Nemesis Scepter: Offensive Position! Bolstering self (=5 levels to self, SP -0) Alex's Guardian Angel hovers over the party, their unconscious bodies scattered across the rain-soaked rooftop. Once a radiant, it was now nowhere near as glorious as it once was. From its constant beating at the hands of the Proggs, it looked weary... defeated. A glowing white silhouette, cracks ran up and down the luminous figure. From those wounds a bright light shone out, a beacon of blinding light coming out from the giant gash in its chest - presumably from The Regret's blade. Elgar lifts his Phoenix Incense aloft, a fountain of flame spewin out form the battle. The inferno envelops the party, awaking the senses and startling the knocked out heroes into consciousness. The Phantom Aquos beats his tentacles on the rooftop, mixing in a solid percussion with some good woodwind. The satisfying result invigorates the heroes, allowing them to go ballistic on Perfect Regret, he tries to evade, but Lady Luck is blessing the party - they decimate the Calamaity Claw, Romulus dodging a punch from it and actually jumping on top! He runs down its forearm and goes right for the shoulder, lodging Combrys in the beast's shoulder blade. For the first time Perfect Regret gives a grunt of pain as the sword buries into him. Being a being of pure ether, he wouldn't simply die... No, his exit would be more volatile. The entire arm glows a ghastly purple color, tendrils of magic going out of control as they are released into the air. In a burst of black light the arm is blown clear off, flying right off of its socket. Romulus jumps off just in time, avoiding the consequences of the dark explosion. Black blood oozes of Perfect Regret's now exposed side, a pulsating mass of organs being revealed... but the Perfect Regret was as eldritch as his appearance would suggest. New armor seems to simply grow from the abomination's body, its horrid teeth gnashing in glee as it repaired itself. Bones locked together and fused, sealing off the exposed organs... With a demonic cackle Perfect Regret raises his tail into the air, the entire appendage hissing as its various barbs and spikes shifted and shuffled around. It hums with power... but instead of lunging for the party, it goes right for the wounded angel. The divine being is too weak to evade, the tail snatching its prey and capturing it in an iron vice. The Progg chuckles as he tightens his grip on the angel, the holy creature letting out a chilling shriek as it went through the monster's sadistic torture. With all of the screams squeeze out of the angel, Perfect Regret gives a mocking sigh... and allows a gargantuan beam of darkness to erupt from his tail. The devastating beam pierces right through the angel, sending the guardian colliding into the stone floor - and shattering upon impact! The angel breaks into hundreds of shards of light, the fragments hanging in the air for a few moments before being completely blotted out by the darkness... The newly revived party stands, mouth agape, as they watch what may have been the angel's demise. With the Guardian Angel dispelled, or perhaps even destroyed, Perfect Regret launches into another mocking tirade. He seemed none too concerned with his amputated arm, his awareness heightened and his tactical actions improved from the event! "A guardian angel is only as strong as the faith of the one who summons it. What a sad, pathetic creature you dragged into our world, Paladin! Heh heh heh... do you truly believe, holy man? Have you grown disillusioned with Ennoc? Or has Ennoc grown disillusioned with you?" The battle rages on! "An admirable effort, but it isn't going to be enough!"
