Punii went from 36: Not used once. 48: Used every turn. Also, where I live, to get an animal fixed means to... Please refrain from doing that. For everybody involved.

QM Note: Sylph, note I bumped off the glasses so you can don the hood. "Where the colony goes, we follow... especially since the Princes are no longer a the helm." "We're probably going to linger for a few days to gathe rup our things, then head down to Eubric. Who knows, maybe we'll set up shop down there. Depends whether or not they are willing to accept us out in the open... The new colony is being built underground it seems, and they'll remain underground until they can sort out their leadership issues and present themselves in a good way. I jerk a thumb towards the black-clad raider, and ask Arthur: "So, what do you think? Insane, drunk, or both?" Night Mare, back, twice. -
Sylph's development was really great in this quest, but I'll leave that for the for the player analysis. I agree, the boss battles had some great RP from everyone in them - my snark served a purpose! Bah, I should've known Flipz was lending you a hand. I bet it was him who told you to seal and blind The Bleeding. You really were a master strategist throughout the quest, DLL. Shout out to Flipz, while we are still on the subject. He allowed me to feature/develop some characters I really liked, and ran some rounds of the battle when I was either on vacation or drugged out of my mind from dental surgery. Yeah, I feel that was one of my strong aspects. Eidolon did appear in the Mystrinitri forest beforehand - the three plot archs (minus the final) followed actually a pretty strict formula of "Normal Battle, Gladius Battle, Prince Battle". Wash, rinse, and repeat. The Princes and Gladius members kept alternating, even to the very last battle. I may have to post pictures of all of the paper I used up plotting Rhodus, Aquos, Eidolon, Perfect Regret, and the Continuous Battle. Perfect Regret was an experiment, but I do feel he played out well. With Regret having moves of his own, the battle never really stagnated - they had to try several work-arounds and alternate strategies just to chop off a few limbs. Also, since it was such a long quest, I figured I might as well let the players beat me up for the finale. Speaking of segmentation, I actually did have "chapter" banners planned for each of the Prince's arcs, but I feel like they would've killed the glimmer of "open-world" this quest had. The names would've been: >The Catalyst (Rhodus) >An Eye For An Eye (Aquos) The Storm (Eidolon) Whatever prince you tackled last (Yes, there could've been Emperor Rhodus or Aquos): >Bow Down To The Emperor And finally, when The Regret showed up, the final chapter would begin: >Blue Rose Blue Rose was actually going to be the original name of the quest! Length is beating a dead Mythrogg at this point, but for pacing I think I did really well. When pacing story I like to have a constant rise and fall of tension, with several peaks and valleys in them - the tension essentially restarted after every Prince was slain, each arc's tension peaking over the last. Until, of course, the regret came into the picture, then it was obvious the stakes were for something far greater. It was basically 3 quests in one, and for the size of the actual quest itself I feel 6 months/127 pages is a good ratio. Of course, the fault lies with cramming a story so large in the first place! Really? The Regret, before he started releasing terraforming blasts, just caught one arrow with his hand and brainwashed two people. Hell, heroes have done cooler things then that. The Regret actually was meant to be the embodiment of evil - or, rather, hatred and regret. For a species that committed all of the atrocities they did because of their hatred for humans, I thought the embodiment of Hatred itself would be a fitting final foe. Wren was worth talking to because there was a glimmer of good in her - The Regret for the exact opposite. He was royally screwed up, lost this wife, became an outcast to the species he created, witnessed millions upon millions of deaths, underwent spiritual torture and had his soul split in half, and for some time couldn't control the voices in his head. By the time the heroes faced him, there was nothing left but bitter hatred. I really do wish some of the interactions between Sylph and Regret could be made public, but that is for another day far into the future. Punii is one of my favorites too. D'awww. Hal had backstory, but he only glossed over it - he isn't going to give his entire life story if nobody asks. The heroes really only spoke to him when he spoke to them. Despite that his character mainly got off the ground, an archeypal guardian of a city who is willing to die for it. There was a mention of Hal conficating Punii's things, and had they went into the tavern they would've heard stories about how stiff of a commander he is. You'll see more of him soon. On the subject of Aranoc: The Regret was first met with him, brainwashing him to do his bidding. In The Regret's final appearance, I saw it fitting to bookend it - both Aranoc and The Regret made their final appearances (or, in regards of The Regret, final appearance of this quest) together. I knew some heroes took a liking to the big old spider, so I figured his sacrifice would make them truly resent The Regret - and it seemed to have work. Killing off any NPC has the effect of raising the tension, which was also suitable for the encounter - it also gave Phantom Aquos a good place to segue in. I do think that Aranoc should've made more appearances beofre his "hero" moment. That photo of the white larva in the opening is, indeed, the Mythrogg! Amazing how that little 3-stud worm grew up into a 6 story tall collosussus, huh? ...What statues? I tried not to pump too many unique effects into the game (most of the artifacts just were different spins on pre-existing ones) but there was certainly a lot. A much needed break. Thanks for all the feedback! I'll post sidequests, not spoilertasitc PM chains, player analysis, and everything else later.
-
The Regret's body was always expendable - his soul could detach and reattach at will. Basically you beat him up enough until you jarred his soul out, then went to town on that. Same mechanics as that oozeling battle, basically. And then if you want an explanation on what the hell Perfect Regret was, all I can say is "Scary." And come on, spirit medium, held reins over death... is summoning ghosts of dead people to aid him so far out of left field? Thanks for the feedback.

Also, with 48 as good as done, if anyone needs help with indexing or whatnot, I'm available. Probably going to brainstorm Stealer 2 for a few weeks, then hop back into QMing then. Until thehn, I'm free to lend a hand to those that need it.

Beatrice states playfully: "Hm! Sounds like proggkind will fit in just fine there, then." -
The 21.5 part... it isn't possible.
-
Argh, I keep doing that.
-
My party is the 99% of Heroica. The entirety of it.
-
...Well, now what?
-
TBW, don't forget the level you earned as the quest reward.
-
I have to agree, I think a better descriptor would be "Looks really scary and really insane but still possible by the stretch of the imagination." Hey, epic quest, plotline's conclusion, tough battles. Thems the breaks.

Ayla comes over to the heroes and presents them with an ornate box full of gold: "Thank you, heroes. For everything." They accept and pocket their reward, adding it to their already vast hoarde of treasure. This was their longest and possibly their most difficult quest - but they only felt stronger from everything that had occured in Luosh. They each gain a full level from the experience. I've heard rumors of a colony heading to Eubric to start fresh... Might have to go down there and see if they need a nurse. Mind if I accompany you back? Eubric may not be the pinnacle of luxury, but I'm sure its a better place to spend time together than in a warzone. " -
Ouch, man. That's cold. ALSO: Assuming you don't buy anything, the final party stats are up in 48. Don't forget to account for the extra level and 150 gold. And are you going to hand Gladius over to somebody, or what?
-
Do have to say I thought 48 was leagues over my other work.
-
Every boss was given a unique mechanic (Except Eidolon, his first phase was just a straight-up fight to the death with a passive special thrown in.) The gimmicks were there to seperate them from the average mook - in quest with 4 boss battles, 2 of them being multi-stage, I wanted to separate them from the average muck and say "THIS is what you should be afraid of!" Yes, I wanted to put RP in more of a focus. It worked well, and everyone's RP was wonderful. More about that in the character analysis.
-
If I had given the 36 heroes a chance to go, I fear we'd currently be at Aquos. About halfway through the quest I managed to get the amount of drugs the heroes took to a science, and was able to crank up the difficulty from there. Trust me, original drafts had Eidolon only having 1,300 HP and no limbs whatsoever... I had to buff up my battles big time to account for all my junkies. Hopefully this quest, besides the heinous length, was an improvement over 36. I upped the story and the MOCs and hopefully created an interesting tale, and I personally liked the battles in 48 better. Yeah, I wish I could've knocked down the HP during the final two fights down a bit - Over the course of the two Regret battles you hacked through over 11,000 HP. I did try to run rounds as much as possible, and with 2 rounds a day most bosses went down in about 10 days to two weeks.
-
Well folks, since 48 is practically over, figure I'd start my analysis. Going to chunk it up throughout as I respond to other comments. I'd also like the thank Sandy for convincing me to shrink the map down. There were originally 5 more locations, and the quest probably would've been a month and half longer . Things Missed: >If you went to the Crash Site before two princes were dead, The Regret would've actually been there. He would've dropped a bit of foreshadowing on his status as true big bad and Mythrogg's condition, but it would be minimal. >If you went to the Commoner's Quarter, you would've been able to go into a tavern (under Town Guard watch, of course) You would've been able to buy bundle packs of meads/nostrums/smelling salts, as well as wine that boosted your SP for one battle. Other then that, you pretty much uncovered everything the quest had to offer. And it was a big quest - too big, in my mind. I loved hosting every second of it, but I really should've split it up into 2, maybe 3, quests. I apologize for holding you hostage for 6 months, and the chances are likely I will never do another quest this big again.

This. There is no overkill in Assassinations, just an exact kill.

Adam nodded at the Lycanthrope, and inspects the fragments carefully. "Gladly. This seems like a rather powerful blade, though - surprised anyone could've busted this baby up so badly. I'll see what I can do." With a nod he retreats back into one of the rooms of the town hall, thin puffs of smoke sometimes drifting into the hall as he did his work. After a few hours he comes back, his brow covered in sweat. Slung behind his back was an absolutely massive sword, one of the biggest the heroes have ever seen! it was evident that it was meant for a Progg, but a particularly strong human could manage... They help out the elderly blacksmith with his load, picking it up and placing it on a table. Adam pants for a short time, and says. "*pant, pant* All... all done. She's a real beauty, ain't she?" Gladius: A massive sword that belonged to the Gladius unit. WP: 16, Darkness elemental. Succesful attacks have a 33% chance of transmitting the Fragile effect to the enemy for 3 rounds. A Greatsword. The party can almost feel the power emanating from the massive blade. -

Let not only my story but this entire event be a testament to the destruction hate brings... Prometheus may not believe in a peaceful co-exsistence, but I do think it will be possible one day. May that day come soon. It has truly been a pleasure, heroes. I bid you farewell, and hope the best for you in all of your endeavors." With a wave good-bye, the mountainous Progg buries back into the gorund, careufl not to disturb the majestic field too much. The heroes can feel a slight tremor under their feet as he tunnels away, ready to endure the last days of his life... "Poor Mythrogg... It's so sad that his story and *wheeze* legacy will have to remain secret, at least until Proggkind rebuilds itself... Heroes... Lets head *cough* back to the town hall." "It is a shame that such a level-headed creature couldn't lead the Proggs... They need a leader like him, and hopefully someone will rise to the task. I don't think they'll cause too much trouble anymore. At least he'll pass away in peace... Agreed. lets make one final stop for this journey - to the town hall." With all of their previous encounter with the mythrogg fresh in their minds, the party begins their sunbathed walk back to the town hall. Heroica Hall was practically waiting for them at this point, the heroes definitely needing atleast some time to wind down after this onslaught. It was a brutal quest, almost hopeless at points, but they had triumphed over every enemy they faced... and, in the end, saved Luosh as well as the Proggs. If there was one thing they knew for certain, it was this: the invasion of Luosh was over. The party arrives at the grand oak doors and throw them open... When everybody in the town hall bursts into a round of applause! "Thank you, heroes!" "Yippee - everything is going to be okay!" "Thanks, heroes... I wanna grow up to be like you!" "Solid job out there, saving Luosh and all... you have my sincere thanks." "Aye, the campions arrive!" "Good show out there, heroes!" "Oh my Ennoc, I'm so relieved... you have my thanks, heroes!" "You're back!" "I've lost count of how many times Heroica has saved our shells..." "Teehee, guess you guys really are heroes, huh?" When an Axe (WP: 6) is upgraded to an Axe (WP: 7), it costs 70 gold. You can also upgrade the SP of shields this way. You can order several upgrades for your weapon, but the costs will stack. For example, upgrading a Mace (WP: 3) to a Mace (WP: 5) will cost {40 + 50 =} 90 gold. Merge a weapon with an elemental gem: You need a weapon and an elemental gem for this service.
