Heroica RPG - Quest #99: Six Thousand Feet Under
Endgame replied to Endgame's topic in The Heroica Archive
The gems slot into place, the pedestals sinking in. The gems glisten as the floor rumbles... For a second, it seemed like the doors ahead of them would rumble open. Instead, the doors behind them slam shut, two giant slabs of rock colliding into eachother and locking tight! The thick barricade locks in the heroes, a voice flooding into the antehcamber... it is monotonous and scratchy, seemingly old. "TODAY'S SECURITY QUESTION: What is the name of your creator? 10 seconds to answer..." Ten seconds?! -
Gah, I have a real tough one coming up though. Also, 99ers, you are cruising. You're already 3/5th of the way through the quest! Just 2 more battles and one more boss, and then the quest concludes.

Grimwald's solution doesn't quite work... The gems slot in correctly, but the order seemed off. -
Finally, I stumped you, Flipz. (or maybe you're just giving the other questees oppurtunity to answer, I can't tell. )

The shield in question doesn't appear to be a shield at all. The gold disk emanates a soft light. -

Arthur inspects the sinister corridor with his magnifying glass. Some sort of auxillary security system lurked in here... Whether or not tripping the system was required remains unknown. Erdathcath first inspects the door. It was locked tight, several feet thick and made of some of the most sturdy material. Without proper procedure, opening it would likely be impossible... the druid next turns her attention to the left wall. There are three small openings in the wall, likely meant to hold something. On the opposite wall, there is an inscription: "A ASTCEL SRKUL LBEWO BLEEEF USN HNIESS FOF GRIDFI CIE EH HOW SSPOESESS A TSATREDHE ERTAH NADWERS EERH TNFIA IGLTH, FUOCAFSTED YB NSDAKREE EAREBW, RFO HTIS SI TEH DMIANAO FO ETH HWIET LVDEI." -
Good plan!

"...FURTHER ANALYSIS: REQUIRED. Your points will all be heavily factored in in my continued observations." The party forges onwards. With nothing of note in view, they practically race down the scaffolding, finding themselves on the left side of the lower ridge. They spot two familiar insignias... "STATISTIC: There is a 96.75867797% chance that those footprints are those of the giant's. Moisture of the dirt beneath the prints implies these are fairly recent, likely after he sliced the bridge." The party follows the footprints, finding themselves at the mouth of a rather foreboding cave. There are a variety of signs plastered over it, bright yellow tape strewn across the entrance: "DANGER! Keep out! Up ahead is unknown territory! Most of the warnings could only be half read, the signs chopped cleanly in half. Even all of the warning tape was slashed, th scarps hanging pathetically. Expecting the best and fearing the worst, the party steps inside the "spooky crypt thingy..." All heroes cough as they walk into the dark chamber, the atmosphere here almost strangling the heroes. Even the Minoid sputters a bit from the stale air. Blades of every sort, as sharp as ever, line the walls, giving a warning to those who dwell here. It reeked of death as well, the setench only adding to the sense of fear. Smething was wrong with this place. Something evil dwelled here, onc eupon a time... The front of the room had a huge door - the left, three pedestals sunk into the wall. The right wall had a rather bizzare insciprtion... What will the party inspect first? -
That, and you have something of a history of being opinionated. Updates in 15 minutes, 99ers! And I mean it this time!

Bascinet should've lost health. "Our strategy remains mostly the same. Syrio, go for Burgoet, from the back row. I'll shoot Kettle Helm twice from the back. Same order! Sorsha, Nuitan, keep it up."

"STATEMENT: As a rebuttal, to see someone in pain doesn't neccasarily mean that the observer is currently in pain. ELABORATION: Every analysis of Brittany, Derrek, and Charles proved I was able to identify those miners as "happy." QUERY: If I am able to identify such an emotion, is it a possiblity that I am capable of experiencing such a phenomenon?" -

The party follows the skirmisher's instructions to the letter, Arthur manning the wheel. After a dozen or so rotations, all of the shipments are washed off, revealing the sparkling gems within. The party opens the cages and pulls out the gems, placing them back into their containers. The party slams the canister shut, their Shadeaux reputation secured. All they would have to do was complete the quest to earn the Shadeaux's favor! Their sub-mission completed succesfully, the party forges on through the mines. They begin to descend the scaffolidng on the other side of the ridge, approaching the spooky crypt... On their way down, the Minoid poses a question. "QUERY: Is to identify to be able to experience?" -

"STATEMENT: There is a fine mesh. Water passes through effortlessly, as does sediment... Any important minerals remain entirely safe." -
"I don't think I could ever control the mind of another being... I'm not sure how you do it. Especially since you've had some nasty experiences with hexing, right?"

Upon further inspection, the cages have latches on them The party clicks open the latches on the two cages that they could currently reach, opening them. What was the final step? -
"I think we all are, Karie... I'm really impressed, actually. You've gotten a lot stronger incredibly quickly this quest. You seem to be learning a lot from each battle!"

"Syrio and Sorsha, repeat your actions. Nuitan, why don't you give Basinet a whack? Back row, just for your safety." I reapt my action, with the same battle order.

QM Note: You think that was my intention? I only have an 8th grade understanding of geology, dude. "...BEGINNING ANALYSIS." The Minoid seems to simply awkwardly stare at the rock for a short while. "Using the definitions inputted by your short spiel, I can confirm thatthe shipment bears more semblance to an alluvial deposit although it fails to fit either definition exactly. They also already appered to have been weathered down by the first floor mine's mortar and pestle pedestals, so we simply need to run them through the waterfall to rinse them off and reveal the gems. QUERY: Can you see any way to get these gems into the cages?" -

As Arthur turns the wheel, gears moan and grind. The four cages begin to revolve around in a circular pattern, the waterfall pouring onto the cages. For the first time, the heroes notice the cages were made of mesh, water passing right through the cages. "OBSERVATION: The mine completely uses every resopurce availible, even the waterfalls." But how was this useful in cleaning the shipment? QM Note: Note that you currently have the shipment with you, and you can remove them and open and close the cases as much as you like. -
But seriously, you're born, you live, you die. Sorrow has dodged death for 428 years. He isn't going to be able to shurg off the reaper forever, or even for another year or two. I can't say I understand your hatred for it. Sometimes players want to start anew. Sorro's old, and everything has been tied up. What other end is there for him?
-
Yeah, sure, loot the guy while he's in his deathbed.
-
He's 428 years old, there isn't much to it.
-
It'll prevent his hand from getting amputated. he's still going to die, though.
-
Leaving, and he ain't coming back. To anywhere on Olegaia.
-
Sorrow is leaving soon, too.
