  1. What a terrible gwp. I am happy it’s this bad because I have no worries missing out on it. But it is so bad that it makes the Death Star worse somehow. Like it highlights the other faults with the set and makes them stand out more. I am going to wait this one out and see if it ever goes on a deep discount. I think I’d be ok with a deep discount and cashing in VIP points on top but otherwise probably won’t get this one.
  2. Agreed, also love the LOTR meme for today.
  3. I am planning to either buy the set on discount or do this too. The concern I have is the bricklink prices. Yularen and Tarkin are combined well over $100 today, it makes me wonder if these will all be $50 each or more (plus I want Krennic and Erso). That could put the prices for the officers at $350 at what I would say is the low end. If they did a 20% discount at some point the $450 difference gets you a lot. Either way it’s a wait and see (prices for officers vs. discount). Plus you can probably sell the hot tub trooper (at least I would) to offset that by another $50 plus. We are the Lego fans, The galaxy is watching
  4. I’m just happy there won’t be someone locked behind a crazy pay wall (more than what’s in the set).
  5. Awesome, that means it’s an easy pass on day one and I can wait for a discount.
  6. Have they listed the minifigures for this yet? I think the build will be ok but the minifigures are what will make or break it.
  7. I did like the old ninja sets from the castle line. It would be good for Lego to keep a small castle and pirate line (the theme parks are based on those themes). I do like the current castle set has the option to add on battle packs and really wish Star Wars would let you do that (like add five stormtroopers to the star destroyer when you buy it.
  8. I did pick up a few here and there, but thankfully the list is finite and I don’t have to buy a lot of these at crazy prices. I have had more fun finding deals on the pieces and building the sets myself (and saved a lot) than the nostalgia or opening a an old box at a premium (I currently have a half a b-wing). I don’t have many left that I really want though which makes it nice (it was not a long list for me to begin with).
  9. I thought this too, happy you brought it up. It is interesting because we talked about things like the Kenner playset with the elevator, the scene with the briefing room was brought up and I think maybe a hangar. My thought is that at some point in the design phases they had a smaller Death Star playset to scale against Yavin. At some point in the process that idea was scrapped but influenced the UCS set. Obviously no way to prove this but curious if there was some crossover ideas around it. A smaller version like Kenner would have been cool in the $200 range.
  10. I am wondering how many play features this will have. I keep spotting things that could be controls for different features. It would be cool if each scene had one or two play features - reminds me a bit of the Indiana Jones Diorama.
  11. Right so apples to apples would put the set at $172 (roughly) and $120 (roughly) for PAB. Plus there were two parts missing, that would either need to be bought in a different color or through brick link (they were the round 1x1 tile, and the round plate for the wheels).
  12. 1 store - Lego.com PAB so free shipping, but here it would be plus tax (so would the set).
  13. This is my favorite X-wing so far, perfect size, well built, good functionality. Will be tough to beat, and especially the $50 price. I am good if it is, that means I can wait for a discount. Unless the Tie Fighter is a full size one with good minifigures it will be worth waiting in my opinion. Also funny if they give Arm printing to a gwp Tie pilot, but there are some key details missing from the actual set mini figures (like printing on the dress piece for Sim Aloo). Oh and, an X-wing for $100 and a tie advanced for $70? Yikes. That should have been a $120 combo pack, and the piece counts are scary. At least I can pick them (probably just the tie advanced) up when they hit some good discounts. Also sad that it is not a Tie Avenger.
  14. Same I agree with this, especially considering most of the things people have called out are in current production (Dark grey with black boots, and C-3PO). Not doing these was particularly lazy on Lego's part. Thankfully for me I can correct these ones. I additionally wanted Han to have the dual molded legs like Cloud City, this one is not one that can be cheaply fixed. (I totally buy the keychains on sale to update my Luke Pilots and a C-3PO or two). I don't mind the shuttle. I think if the shuttle was a playset it would be a massive failure given the overall proportions which are wrong. I think it looks decent though in the hangar bay. If they had made the front end smaller to match the stabilizer (and wings in general) it would look weird next to the troops in the scene, and if they had made the rest bigger it wouldn't really fit with the rest of the set. I think to get the middle ground the compromises make sense and it looks pretty decent in the hangar with a scene. They also got the windshield better than usual, but they forgot the grey stripe if it is the emperors shuttle. So I agree it wouldn't be good as a playlet, but for what it is and what needed to be compromised I personally like the look. Same for me too Agree, unless the gwp is awesome and has some unique character I will wait and see if the price drops, but I like it (and wished it had been an upscaled 10143 as well) but I still think it is good. If the GWP is worth $200 in exclusivity I might buy it up front, but the gwp would have to be very special to justify that.
  15. Can you question why we don’t have the gwp set leaked please? I would like to know the minifigures. I really like the way it turned out. I was a bit nervous with the leaks but I think the part I like is that it kept the laser which still gives it a Death Star feel. I will probably wait for a discount though unless the gwp is incredible.
  16. I thought the ability to add on knights from pick a brick as packs was a cool feature on this one from legos website. Not interested in the set but the ability to add 5 extra knights or horses in the purchase was a good function.
  17. I think one of my hesitations on wanting another standard tie is that the downsizing has negatively impacted the tie fighters as much or more than some other downsizing. The x wing downsize made the x wing closer to minifigure scale, the old tie fighters were closer to minifigure scale so the new downsized ones just look weird next to the x wings. So we have had two lackluster tie fighters out that were both downsized when what i think would be good is one sized like 2016 with the updated cockpit area. I think we need a break from standard tie fighters but a full size one might be a good candidate for the 50th anniversary wave (providing we don’t get a tie advanced by then). (And tie avenger which would be nice to get a new version completely).
  18. Watch the Tie advanced be the Death Star gwp. My real hopes for a tie advanced are the 50th anniversary in 2027. I would like the tie avenger first in 2026 though.
  19. Correct nothing new, but it is fun to gain insights into their pricing practices. And unless they share explicit details on their internal pricing, overhead rates, what their loss leaders are (if they even have any), licensing fees, etc., (which would never happen) we only have insights like this to see how they are pricing things. (We also can see competitors pricing to gain a sense of the market). So just a fun exercise trying to make sense of the most expensive product within the market as they raise prices higher (just like us all looking at price per piece or per gram).
  20. Agreed, my assumption is that parts in sets are much cheaper than PAB (and should be). PAB is the most expensive way to get parts directly from Lego. That’s why I found it so interesting that the juggernaut prices is interesting. @Mandalorianknight agreed this is a very small sample and would need to be compared. I don’t think this is a good pricing model because PAB should be Legos most expensive way to buy bricks, sets should be cheaper. I think the best measurement is weight based for sets, but I would like to see how other sets line up (the juggernaut also had more available bricks than I was expecting, some sets might be missing more in PAB due to color availability) edit: grogu with hover Pram is only missing 6 parts - total PAB cost is $124 this is how I would expect PAB prices to line up. k-2so is missing 10 part numbers (so maybe 40 parts total) and is $102 again lines up like I would expect more expensive. Plus none of these have printed parts or their one minifigure in the PAB store so arguably the most expensive parts are the ones missing.
  21. So I just did something fun with the juggernaut. I went to rebrickable downloaded the parts list for lego pick a brick and put the parts in Lego pick a brick. There were 21 parts missing (looking these up in brick link they all appear to be minifigures, droids, and weapons) plus a 6x6 round plate and a 1x1 round tile. The total for the parts that are available is $111.45. I view Pick a Brick as a premium cost for lego parts (I think a set should be able to sell parts cheaper than pick a brick prices). This means that Lego is placing a $48.55 price tag on the minifigures and the two round parts missing. The battle pack is similar - $19 for the parts on pick a brick (minus the droids/minifigures with one or two other parts missing) so $25 for the minifigures in that set. (oh and sticker sheets).
  22. Honestly the gwp is sufficient for me to claim I have a Death Star 2 in my collection without taking up space.
  23. This set is trending this way for me as well. When I heard it would be a Death Star it was a 100% buy. But that was because I don’t have a Death Star yet. I still want some minifigs from the set so now i am 50/50 on the set but would potentially bricklink the figures I want. Probably will end up playing the waiting game to see if there is a good sale (30%) or how the minifigure prices go. If it has the wow factor I might reconsider (and if the gwp has a wow factor)
  24. Thanks for the quick feedback. Hopefully there will be more with the movie, but I think they will all be specific to game/movie (outside of hopefully getting the price of the Hylian shield and master sword down).
  25. Hey first time looking at this topic, but the Nintendo Gameboy looks awesome! Great set and good price, will probably pick it up just because it looks cool and is well priced. Looking for feedback on Zelda, I really want the OOT link minifigure (with sword/shield). Is there an expectation for a cheaper round of Zelda sets, or should I plan on buying this one and selling the BOTW figs? Also asking because I am hoping for a Zelda minifigure closer to the OOT.
