  1. Okay, so the new Harry Potter sets are finally hitting store shelves, and most of them are remakes of old sets, some of which have already seen multiple iterations. So, naturally, we have to ask ourselves: Are they really an improvement over their predecessors? It's time to compare the different versions of the five remade Harry Potter sets and decide which are our favorites! The most redone set, of course, is the Hogwarts castle. There are four different versions. The first one (4709) is a nice, simple, classic rendition of the exterior of the castle, with a few play features on the inside, but it's lacking details. It comes with the most essential figs you will need in a Hogwarts set: Dumbledore, Hagrid, Malfoy, and the trio. The second version (4757) only depicts part of the castle - the clock tower and the gryffindor tower. The interior is more detailed here, and instead of Hagrid, it includes Professor Trelawney, as well as some Dementors. The third version (5378) is more of a playset than a depiction of the castle. While the exterior has lots of gaps, the interior includes several random scenes from OotP that are quite detailed. It also includes a green house and fleshy versions of all the figs from the first Hogwarts set, as well as Snape, Dolores Umbridge, and a Death Eater. The fourth version (4842) has both a very solid and accurate looking exterior and a very detailed interior that depicts scenes from different HP movies. It also has the largest variety of characters, although Ron and Draco are missing in this version. The Harry Potter set with the second most remakes is the Hogwarts Express. The first version (4708) consisted of the engine, one passenger wagon, and a part of Platform 9¾. It had push-along wheels and came with the trio. The second version (4758) looked very similar to the first, but had some more play features and came with a small Hogsmead Station instead of Platform 9¾. Also, instead of Hermione, you got Lupin and a Dementor. The fourth version (10132) was basically a motorized deluxe version of 4758. The train had an additional tender and motorized wheels, and instead of the pathetic station, you got a whole track as well as a small Hogsmead tavern. The fourth version (4841) is comprised of the engine, a tender, and one passenger wagon, all of which have been updated with some more details, giving the train a more accurate look. It comes with a remake of the Ford Anglia (which first appeared in 4728 Escape from Privet Drive), and a food trolley. It has the highest number of minifigs in a Hogwarts Express set and includes Harry, Ron, Malfoy, Luna, and Ginny, as well as three printed owls. Another set that has seen three different variations is Hagrid's Hut. The first version (4707) had a nice octagonal shape and could be folded open nicely, but the roof was entirely made of paper, and you needed to put a rubberband around it to keep it in a cone shape. It came with Hagrid, Dumbledore, Norbert, and an owl. The second version (4754) was much more square in shape, was completely brick-built, and included Hagrid and Hermione. The third version (4738) is overall similar in design to the second one, but includes the complete trio, as well as both Aragog and Norbert, and more details, such as printed owls, pumpkins, mushrooms, a light brick, and Hagrid's umbrella. One set that has two similar versions is Quidditch Practice/Match. The first version (4726) included three goal posts, a catapult, a spectator tower with a half-Slytherin-half-Gryffindor color scheme and broom closet, along with minifigs of Harry, Malfoy, and Madame Hooch. The neat thing about the tower's mix color scheme is that if you bought two of this set, you could make one Gryffindor tower and one Slytherin tower. However, you would only have four players. In addition to what the first edition had, the new version (4737) includes Markus Flint, Oliver Wood, an extra catapult, and a podium with a trophy. The tower has a Ravenclaw color scheme for some reason (NOT a Hufflepuff one as S@H claims), and instead of the closet, it has a score board. If you buy multiples of this set, you'll end up with a bunch of unnecessary things, such as catapults and trophies, and you would only have Ravenclaw towers. However, you'd be much closer to having full teams than you would have been with the old set. The fifth set that was redone for the 2010 wave is Freeing Dobby. The first version (4731) was a vignette showing a random corner in Hogwarts with a cute desk and some hidden compartments. It included only Dobby and Lucius Malfoy. The second version (4736) is larger and depicts the arch under which Malfoy stood in this scene in CoS. It includes Harry as well, Dobby is printed this time, and Lucius carries his Death Eater mask with him. The book is not printed in this version, but it's more movie accurate this way. So get voting! I hope these brief descriptions helped refresh your memory and will aid you in the decision making process. Feel free to share your thoughts and the reasons for your decisions!
  2. Nothing really. Toy Wars was a one-time stroke of genius I had. If I find something with as many parallels, I might make another, but for now, that's it. But there are still a few Star Command MOCs to come!

  3. LOL, I like that baby skeleton with the scarf! And you guys are thinking WAY too complex about the tops! Has anyone considered that these might just be ordinary tops that you spin with your fingers, and they're one piece so that they don't fall apart during play?
  4. Here's an interview with the designer:
  5. Count Dooku: Attack H7. Another glorious victory for the Separatists! Thanks for playing with me, Genaro. You were a worthy opponent, but alas, your army was no match for mine. I hope I wasn't too hard on you and that you had fun while it lasted. This calls for a status update!
  6. Yup, my TRU and Lego Store had them too. And for anyone who was wondering, yes, the keychains do have the double sided heads. Does anyone know if Hagrid's hands are removable? I thought they might look good on Woody and Jessie. I got the keychain and have a hard time removing them, and I'm afraid to pull too hard.

Not bad, but the arm looks kinda awkward. Look at some more references, like pics of Captain Rex. I think it might help to lower the elbow a little and have the gun point straight up or even back a little.

    MOC: Clown Wars

Hello there. As the subtitle says, this was going to be my Category B entry for the Minifigures Series 2 contest, but I misinterpreted the deadline and was too late. Ah, Paris! The city of love and the performing arts! However, today there isn't much love in the air. Bobo the Clown used to be one of the top entertainers in Paris. People loved to watch his shenanigans and frequently hired him to perform at parties. But one day, a new performer appeared on the scene, a fresh, young mime who, with his vast arsenal of imaginary props and great ability to interact with them, won over the heart of the crowd in no-time. Bobo's business was practically ruined over night, and the sudden popularity surge didn't do him well. He became more and more depressed with every day, until he finally snapped. The mime had to go. And so, Bobo set up a trap during one of the mime's performances. The mime was doing one of his routine acts where he pretended to be pulling a rope with a heavy object attached to it. What the mime didn't know was that Bobo, having a special sense of irony, was about to drop a real heavy object on top him from a balcony above, a piano to be exact. The amused spectators were in for a grim surprise... Here is the unsuspecting mime, and the people of Paris watching his performance in front of "Le Cafe" with delight. And here is Bobo, about to cut the rope holding the piano above the mime's head. Some more views of the vig: Some shots without the figs and the piano: The moral of the story: Stay away from clowns with knives! You can find hi-res versions of the pics in this brickshelf folder. Let me know what you think!

  11. Oh, now I understand the question. Yeah, I think the whole Aurebesh thing got started with the PT, and back when they were doing the OT, they thought it would be cool to name ships after letters in our alphabet. Now, it doesn't make much sense, I guess, but then again, a whole lot of things don't (CoughGreedoCough). Yeah, but he's a Senator, and not a character we have only seen speaking his native language up until now. Though I can understand why they did this. Subtitles may work in movies, but not on kids-oriented TV shows. There is no post above yours. The trailer/preview should be up on youtube soon.
  12. Have you ever actually seen one of those names written down somewhere in English? I doubt it. If they were written down, they would likely be in Aurebesh. As for them saying "Y-Wing" out loud, that's because the Basic, the commonly spoken language in the SWU, is being translated into English (or whatever language you speak) in the movies and series so that we can understand it.
  13. "Army or not, you must realize you are doooomed." - General Grievous Count Dooku: Attack I8. Assassin Droid Bike: Attack G9. Move STAP from I16 to I14. Move Snail Tank from J11 to J10. Move Hailfire from S8/9 to Q8/9.
  14. Like CallMePie said, these Bluecoats aren't anything new, so why repost what you already posted?
  15. Already posted in the correct forum: LINK Perhaps we could have these topics merged? Considering you get a classic minifig AND an exclusive 2x4 tile, this offer is like a hundred times better than those stupid duplo bricks from last year. I'll definitely get at least one bluecoat! Hm... The buecoat is marked as Sold Out... Does this mean that you wont get one if you order online, or just that you can't buy it?
  16. Hm... Despite my love for Star Wars, I wasn't particularly interested in Jedi Duel as it just seemed like a variation on rock-paper-scissors, but it seemed to be relatively popular, so I just might join this, just to show my support for HP-themed activities (as well as a HP Month). Is there any deadline for joining? @ ADHO: You might want to remove the "Opening Shortly" in the first post and give links to the respective threads. And I hope this game wont distract you too much from hosting CC. @ Flitwick: REDUCE YOUR SIG DAMMIT!
  17. Nice work. But obviously you didn't search well enough as I had done something just like this a while ago in my Anime Wars thread. However, I don't have too many Exo Force figs, so I couldn't realize most of my ideas. So, thank you for doing it for me.
  18. Thanks. Only the best for my fellow brick-lovers! He looks a bit crammed in the 4-wide cockpit, but yeah, he does fit.
  19. I'm pretty sure it wont. It was originally planned to be released this year, and since when has a videogame included sets of future waves? If there are any sets to come out after the game that feature vehicles from the game, it's pure coincidence. Oh, and sorry that it got moved from your B-day to mine.
  20. The episode guide and commentary for this episode make it pretty clear that this is ANH Greedo: So, they basically retconned a retcon. Sigh. It doesn't make sense at all. But I'm too tired right now to rant about it. Aside from all the fan service with Greedo, the Cantina, and Jabba's Palace, This episode was alright. Nothing specially good or bad. I did like how competent Ahsoka and George Chairman Papanoida were however. I didn't like that goat-headed bounty hunter, though. I also noticed that the shot of Embo is the one from the season trailer, so I hope this is not the only thing we see of him and Sugi this season. The next episode just looks alright as well. Padme has the weirdest hair do yet, and it's about the pacifist Mandos again. But at least this time these supposed-pacifists finally do some fighting. We'll see. Ahsoka and Chuchi do emphasize the fact that they're "good friends" a lot, don't they? OK, enough with the lesbian jokes.
  21. I'll take this opportunity to re-post my nightmare-inducing vision of what an offspring of those two might look like in minifig form. I would actually love to see an episode with these two, just to see how they would portray the chemistry between them.
  22. Move Count Dooku from F7 to G6. Move Assassin Droid Elite from F11 to G10. Move Assassin Droid Bike from F12 to F10. Move Snail Tank from J12 to J11. Hailfire: Attack Q10.
  23. My personal favorite: "Dear diary - Jackpot!" And yeah, I was hesitant using that torso since it's actually a compliment, but unfortunately the Sumo torso isn't out yet, so I had to do with this one. Thanks! Good thing we have the "Watch this Topic" option now. But don't you mean I'm winning? That pic was made by me after all.
  24. Well, looking at the comments in this thread, it might be worth considering. Perhaps we could have it tie in with the release of the last movie in summer? Just a suggestion. The recently revealed exclusive set gave another idea for a contest we could have if we do have an HP month at some point: Build a shop in Diagon Alley! A contest to expand the already great Diagon Alley set with more shops in the style of those from the set. You could make one from the movies/books or make one up. Also, I'd like to propose two more theme months: Adventurers Month and Ninja Month. Adventurers is one of the most beloved Lego themes of all time, and seeing how it gets a revival next year, it would be a great time to celebrate this theme by having a month dedicated to it! There are many possible contests, and with the diversity of the subthemes, there's potential for entries of all kinds, from pyramids to airships to dinosaur-catching contraptions! And seeing what a crazy theme NinjaGo is, there are many whacky activities we could have based around it. But in order to make it accessible to more people, we wouldn't need to limit it to NinjaGo and could include the old, historic ninja theme as well. What do you think?
