  1. What does "ACE" mean, don't know that abbreviation. Hopefully it something positive... /Hans
  2. That is one thing I still have to do (you caught me there ;-). /Hans
  3. Finished building the Lego 391 - Cadillac 1913. I like the result, all bricks are new apart from the yellow lights, the windows and the wheels. More pictures (including an overview of all old sets that I have rebuilded), can be viewed on my Flickr page: https://flic.kr/s/aHsk6mbqgL Enjoy. /Hans
  4. Building of the Volkswagen Beetle 10187 is finished. The result can be viewed on my Flickr page: https://flic.kr/s/aHskbzkTZH . Compared with the other rebuilds (Cafe Corner, Eiffel Tower, Market Street), this one was one of the hardest. Mainly because some of the major bricks (like the 2x2 plates) were not available for a reasonable price. But in the end, I'm more content with the result. Hope you enjoyed this thread. And thanks to all replies for the mental support. /Hans
  5. Building is now almost finished, the result is in the picture below: . Because I couldn't find the 2x2 plates for a reasonable price, I replaced most of them with two 1x2 plates. But I didn't buy enough of them, I need another 15 - 16 pieces. Then, I found out that the medium plates 1x1 where not original Lego. They were bought at Bricklink and I noticed a small color difference. Not really unusual, but that triggered me and I noticed that the bricks didn't have the Lego logo on the studs. So I have ordered some new 1x1 bricks. Hopefully, this time I get real Lego. And one arch brick for the rear wheel-arch is still in back order. Last but not least: during the building, I found out that I forgot to order some bricks. Two transparent round plates for the head lights and the silver grille tiles. At the picture below I have marked the places that are not finished yet. Using my best friend Google, I managed to find a good image of the sticker that belongs to this box (you can buy it at Bricklink for EUR 75,- ....). I will print this on a sticker sheet, so my rebuild is as similar as possible as the original. I keep you updated. /Hans
  6. It starts to look like a car .... /Hans
  7. Just returned from my summer vacation. And the postman delivered the long-wanted Lego order. Because the Lego order went wrong, they kindly sent me the pieces without any cost. They really know how to keep the customer satisfied. Of course, I started to continue building. The result-in-between can be found here: https://flic.kr/s/aHskbzkTZH Enjoy. /Hans
  8. Looks great, I had in my childhood also a lot of the Space theme. The 391 is finished: /Hans
  9. Yes, I do have thought about building the Beetle in a different color. But, as you have read in the thread, it is the challenge that makes the building fun. Of course, I would love to find the missing bricks somewhere for a decent price. But finding for alternatives (in the type of bricks, not the color) makes the challenge complete. Building it in a different color would feel too easy. Anyway, thanks for your reply. I had no idea how many people would like to read my thoughts. I am positively surprised about the count. /Hans
  10. Cool! Very impressive. Would buy it immediately if it would be the next modular building. /Hans
  11. Also rebuilding the Lego 390 (Cadillac 1913). Never owned this one, but thanks to the free available building instructions and Bricklink, I will own it soon ;-) The current status is: Two Bricklink orders in process. The yellow lights are hard to get. I will check my own old Lego first ;-) /Hans
  12. I continued a little with the building, but the order from "Missing Pieces" is still not processed (they guy of the helpdesk told me that they lost the contents of my order ). Anyway, the current status is as follows: It looks like I have used four dark blue plates 4 x 8 (about 10 euro's each). Well, I would like to have them but I used much cheaper alternatives: The result is still nice! /Hans
  13. Received the first order with missing bricks. Only two blue slope bricks and the white wheels are still missing (ordered them via BL). . More pictures of my rebuild models and more at https://flic.kr/s/aHsk6mbqgL . /Hans
  14. Started building and collecting the needed bricks for the Renault 1926 (set 391). Keep you updated. On the photo you see the bricks I already have. I have order the missing ones at Bricklink (~ 15 euro). /Hans
  15. I'm jealous ... Really looks great! /Hans
  16. Called the Lego company. It seemed that my order was lost ... . Yesterday, couldn't wait longer and started building. Wanted to see how far I got. I only made it until step 5 of building book 1 (appr. 5 minutes of enjoyment): Missing the light bluish gray bricks and the dark blue corner pieces. And indeed, they are part of that particular order. So I will need to be patient. /Hans
  17. I received a shipping of Lego (Missing Pieces) today, it should be the final order before I could start building. Unfortunately, it was another order (for my Horizon Express Extension, see one of my other threads). I checked my order status for the status of the missing parts of the Volkswagen Beetle and it still says 'in process'..... I am going to call Lego if they can tell if the order has been received well. It is now more than two weeks and didn't hear anything of them... So, still waiting ... /Hans
  18. Talking about the Eiffel Tower. This build by Sean Kenney is really cool. Total height is 220 cm, 67470 pieces and took two months of designing and building. More information about this super structure can be found here: http://mocpages.com/moc.php/415991. /Hans
  19. I have looked in my collection, but unfortunately I don't have the bricks you need. And I know exactly what you mean with the "inner struggle to have exactly the right part". I don't like it either to have an alternative, even if it is not visible from the outside. Maybe it helps that there are people who feel exactly the same. It does for me. --- Looking for alternatives The step to look for alternatives is hard to explain, since there is no recipe that always works. And sometimes you just need to be lucky. I will give some examples that can give you some hints if you're looking for alternative bricks. Maybe it will help you in the future. The Volkswagen Beetle needs 5 white rims. At Bricklink, they can be found. But only in single pieces, only used and if I would buy the five cheapest single rims, it would have cost me around 35 - 40 euro's (since I would have to pay 5x shipping). So, that was not an option for me. Later on, I was convinced that I had seen these rims before in my older Lego. But how can that be, since Brickset tells me that the Volkswagen Beetle is the only set containing these rims. I checked my older Lego, and indeed: I had six of these rims. They were part of the Lego 8479: Barcode Multi-Set. The design-id is different, but I cannot find any differences: So, the rims can be removed from the needed list . But the lesson learned is: in many cases, the design-id can be different for (almost) the same piece. You can find out (but it is rather time consuming) by searching Brickset or Peeron for pieces in the same category. In some cases, I managed to find pieces that are almost the same but much cheaper. ^ Apart from the dark blue plates 2x2, I also need dark blue plates 4x8: . The can be found at BL, at a price of 20 euro's each (!). So, buying these bricks would cost me 240 euro's. That's crazy. The only alternative I can think of, is replacing these parts by other bricks, e.g. 2 plates 2x8. Or 1x plate 4x6 + 1x plate 2x4. I have checked the building instructions, it should be doable. So, I have bought some additional plates 4x6, 2x4 and 2x8. ^ I need 16x Bricks with bow 1 x 5 x 4": . These parts are sold at BL for appr. 4 euro. A total of 64 euro's if I would buy them in one time. Fortunately, there are some sellers that sold one or two pieces for 1.50 euro. So, I bought these single ones (all in the Netherlands, otherwise the shipping would be too costly). In this way, I found six pieces. Then I found out that the set 8893 (Lava Chamber Gate) contains 8 of these pieces. And the price was reasonable. So I bought this set. And most of the bricks that I don't need have found its way to my own BL store. So, either I have bought these pieces much too expensive or maybe even for free :-) /Hans
  20. Finished building the Taj Mahal. Took some hours ;-). As said earlier: building was sometimes boring, doing the stuff four times in a row. But the result is still worth the effort. . Enjoy, /Hans
  21. I have bought some more bricks in the last few days. The current status can be viewed in the picture below: I'm still waiting for some BL orders and the order from missing pieces. And the pieces that are send to me by LegoWarBoys. When everything has arrived, I will let you know what pieces are still left to be found (just a few). Can't wait to start building :-) /Hans
  22. I have always wanted to build such a bus. And you did it. Very well done, it looks great and I love the mechanism of the doors. Thanks for sharing. /Hans
  23. I was really surprised when I read this message. I contacted LegoWarBoys immediately, he is even willing to send me the 18 bricks for free! Of course, I will gladly pay for the shipping. /Hans PS In the next days, I will post some more detail of my search for bricks in order to be able to start building.
  24. New photo's have been added to my Flickr page: Current status is ''almost finished building". /Hans
  25. Dear Elroy, Good to hear that you're still around. Hope that you will be soon out of the abyss. And please take care. Health is something you can't buy or make from Lego. /Hans
