  1. Im actually hoping that the designers made the feminine characteristics as subtle as possible, so the figure would still be at least semi-serious. We actually know that she uses the same mold as the original Cyclops, so no Leela there; we just havent seen the details yet.
  2. I suppose you mean the cowboy from S1? http://img1.wikia.no...8/8e/CB(21).jpg Because a Sheriff is one of the basic western minifigs weve been missing so far. Hmm... I does look round and a magnifying glass is the obvious accessory, so could be.
  3. Hmm, if the LEGO ballista is really meant to represent the Dwarvish ballista, wouldnt the movie guys have old the designers its not meant to go with the Orcs on the box art? I meant they can voice their opinions on the LEGO renditions of their products, right? Maybe there is another so far unseen Orc ballista that the LEGO version is based on... And I would say its the ballista dwarfing the dwarves
  4. My opinions on the seen figs. For the record,I dont mind the repeats at all. * Sheriff: Im surprised they gave him the mustache. Not sure he needed it, but I guess its nice to get the piece in a new color. Is that the Lone Rangers hat or a new mold? Because it doesnt seem to be the (not a) robot Sheriffs hat. * Lady Cyclops: I wonder how much tertiary sexual characteristics (makeup, eyelashes) the lady cyclops with have. Will she have negative space on her torso? Will she be usable as a monster or will she be too caricaturish? * Egyptian Warrior: I guess its nice he doesnt have the traditional headdress (as gedren_y noted its more of a royal headress), but it remains to be seen how accurate the one he got is. The shield seems inaccurate, in any case. The khopesh was expected. Though, as I said, Ill want him anyway. * Alien Trooper: Its nice to get a Cthulhu head, but how is he a trooper? * Disco Diva: Sassy. Somehow shes a lot like I expected her to be, though I did expect more glitter/sequins and stuff. * King: Cool, so it seems we get a new crown. Good to see the gnome beard in a new color. Ermine cape is a wish come true. It looks like he has a pearl gold sword, which is a shame, as I would have preferred a sceptre. * Paleontologist: So lady n. 4 is confirmed. As is the bone accessory. But whats in her other hand? * Looks like the Snake Charmer has a bicolored green-white turban? * So... does the unicorn girl have an accessory? And about one so far inindentified minifig: Goblin/Imp/Kobold: the one common mark of these is that they are short, so I would expect a sand green or olive green fig with short legs and the santa elf hat recolored.
  5. But doesnt TLG need to enter into some kind of relationship with these companies to display their logos, however tangentially/indirectly or insignificantly?
  6. I guess it would be nice to have flesh bricks for busts and statues/figurines, but I think yellow or tan bricks can be used as substitutes. But if this was a problem, we would already see countless sculptures of genitalia made of yellow or tan or any other color of bricks. Its pointless to go this way, since we all know what "flesh" color means in the context of LEGO.
  7. True enough. If this is the case, I take my words back.
  8. Supporting NujuMetrus MT is now as much a vote of confidence in the Middle Earth themes as a vote for the build itself. If you want TLG to at least take a glance at LotR/Hobit, your best change is helping push this MT to 10 000 votes. Not to mention that if it passes review, the designerswill likely change it, perhaps more to your liking.
  9. Well, we might still get Castle sets in the second half of next year. But yeah, the CMFs help bridge the gap. The Evil Wizard sounds promising as well (we will see about the Goblin/Imp, Snake Charmer, Samurai and Lady Cyclops).
  10. Huh, looks ike the multiquote option is on strike. Oh, well... @ Onslaght: The carpenter as Gepetto from Toths designs makes a lot of sense, intiguing idea. @ Slurpifier: I also prefer the old samurai helmet, but the new one brings a lot of options with the visor. Eh, I would take either. @ various: Why couldnt it be a hot dog seller in a hot dog suit? More opinions to come once I try to get a clearer look at the pic.
  11. Thats an original way to look at it, though Im not a fan of this theory. At least it somewhat explains the cheesiness, even if it doesnt lessen it... Forgot to voice my appreciation for the new flags, as well as the pirate sails - much better than the 2009 versions. Though still not as good as the original take. Theres just someting eerie about a plain grinning skull that cant be matched by the later ridiculous frowny-eyes or even eyebrows-on-skull versions.
  12. On closer looks, I dont like the eyepatched-mustached pirate head, it looks over the top. Not a fan of the new printed croc either. Like David Thomsen I would have rather wanted to see a new parrot. The new bandana probably will be ok, but its another wasted mold. The swivel-gun is growing on me I guess, though it might need a 1x1 round stud/"plate" on the back for aesthetic reasons. As for the Treasure Island set, I never liked these skull-rock sets, they always seemed to cheesy. Nice minifigs though, the wench is neat but I would have preferred her without the eyepatch. Bummer that there are no coins. I wonder why?
  13. I guess subcribing to the Project Overview Thread would be the best option. I do have facebook, but not twitter, and google groups are more trouble than theyre worth. So theres my opinion, and other members will have their own social media preferences, so I dont think we will agree on an external solution. So I agree with the najority opinion of keeping it here on EB.
  14. So, here are my opinions. Still counting on this being the real list. * Galaxy Trooper: I thought this was covered by the Galaxy Patrol. Maybe a female version? Maybe using the Space Miner hat? * Alien Trooper: Again, I thought this was covered by both the S3 Alien and the S11 Alien Avenger. * Evil Sorcerer: I guess I expect modified version of the CMF-game evil red wizard, but a witch-doctor like Robert8 suggested would also be fun. * Classic King: Yeah, I expected this one. I wonder whether we will see a new crown or sceptre mold. Maybe the heroica mace in gold? In any case I expect some nice ermine printing. * Imp: sounds like one of Toths figs. If so, sound pretty good, if the designers stay true to his concept. Of course, it could be could even if they don’t. And it it’s a goblin rather than an imp, that sounds even better. In any case, I hope its sand green to match the Fantasy trolls. * Snake Charmer: I thought they might make such a fig to fill the Middle Eastern slot. Hopefully the flute will be printed. Cobra looks great, though I hope it will come with a basket. * Lady Cyclops: :D well I never saw this one coming… * Paleontologist: Expected. Like I said, I expect a woman in safari wear, tan, dark tan or olive green, with a pith helmet or a bucket/fishing hat (maybe a new mold with hair?). A magnifying glass and/or a bone for an accessory. * Carpenter: hoping for a handsaw, or a chisel. Not hoping for a hammer or a ruler, since we already have those. * Hot Dog Vendor: Im expecting something like a cross between the TLM ice cream guys and Kebab Bob, with the CMF Butchers hat. Im a fan of food-industry figs, so sounds good. * Sheriff: About time we finally got this fig. I wonder whether he wil have the (not a) robot Sheriffs hat * Samurai: Interesting, as we already have one. Will it be female? Or an Evil Samurai? Or a Shogun, with golden helmet and armor, for example? Or, as others have speculated, a terra cotta warior? * Disco Diva: Sounds good. Inevitably for the time period, I wonder what hair she will have. * Fencer: Another long-awaited fig. My pick for a female fig. * Unicorn Girl: Funny. But Im not into these costumed figs. * Egyptian Warrior: I was wishing for an ancient egyptian warrior, but It thought it too obsure to happen. I would expect him to have the headdress in a plain color, the khopesh sword and scarab shield, however inaccurate that might be. Though I would prefer something more historical, with a cowhide shield, if he will have the khophes it should be the bronze color, and something like the Inrina Spalko hair to reflect the hairstyle of the era. True, but there is non in the CMF line, which was that I was reacting to. I wouldnt expect the mustache for this CMF sheriff, as it was part of a disguise, not something stereotypically associated with sheriffs.
  15. Now THIS list is more like it! Its much more balanced and I daresay much more interesting for me. Hope its finaly the real deal. Im not aware of a CMF sheriff. Do you mean the S1 cowboy? Apart from the obvious Unicorn girl, Lady Cyclops and Disco Diva, my personal predictions for female figs are the paleontologist (while its true we have a female paleontologist in the Ideas set, she is in plain clothes, while I expect this one to be in a safari-style outfit) and the fencer (yeah, I expect a modern fencer, with a fencing mask). I wondered about that as well. Thing is, his torso and legs are taken from the 2007 Fantasy era evbil wizard / Mallock the Malign, as he was known in some other medium. If we really get this guy, I would expect different leg printing, and probably different torso printing as well. Opinions coming as soon as real life gets out of the way.
  16. Huh, I hadnt seen these updates yet. Looking great (especially the bottom-up view ).
  17. I rather divide themes on a continuum of personally appealing to unappealing, rather than good or bad. If its about gut feeling though, Galidor (the obvious candidate) doesnt rile me, because it came and went during my "dim" ages and I dont see it as a System line. Its rather other System themes that piss me off, like Speed Racer, World Racers, or garish and "loud" semi-futuristic kid-oriented action themes (Chima, Atlantis) that take up valuable System slots which are "wasted" on me. Im thinking Elves will fit here, though its too early to say yet. The other girl-oriented themes not so much. Belville at least had some cool parts, as does the Friends theme.
  18. I for one am not irritated so see an old topic resurrected, mostly because it gives me a chance to read topics from before my time here, which I would miss otherwise. That goes for both reviews and discussion topics - an interesting older discussion is still worth reading, and newer members should have a chance to add to it, maybe sparking off a new discussion. Continuing in an old topic seems more logical to me than starting a new one, if the issue is the same. The one exception would be people resonding to or asking members who havent been active for a long time, which is pretty pointless, but that doesnt happen too often. If, on the other hand, a topic doesnt interest me, I simply ignore it. An uninteresting older topic is is just as "annoying "to me as an uninteresting new topic. Not saying Im against a warning message, just that I dont see it as necessary.
  19. I would be all for a gate set. Im sure it could be done in a way that wouldnt be boring, the gates themsevles would probably be pretty elaborate. ANd it would probably be a set bought for the figs. I never expected a whole Mina Tirith. Why make a whole city when the action is only concentrated in a few parts? I used to think we would get the gates, a UHA-style wall, and maybe something like the lighting of the beacon scene. I guess we wont even get that...
  20. Same here. One of my most prized sets, though more for the knght than for the ghost.
  21. This is exactly what would bug me if the Smaug mold was used as a fell beast - the relative scale between them. Yes, LEGO scale is off, but Smaug is still much larger than a minifig, and he should be rather larger than a fell beast. And actually, the newer cats from the CMF line are reasonably larger than the rats. The rats were the same size as the kittens exported from Belville, which isnt that unrealistic, as rats can reach kitten size. Just thought Id mention it as an example of TLG "righting a wrong" by making the new cat mold and making a reasonable size disparity between cats and rats. So a fell beast should get the same treatment. Of course, a Smaug-sized fell beast (with the appropriate minifigs) would be better than none.
  22. I vote yes, it would expand the possibilites of play, and armed policemen are a fact of life in many developed coutries, without any negative consequences like sliding into violence or a police state. To those saying its simple to add guns from other themes, I reply that it would be even simpler to remove guns from City sets, if you so wish. As for the fantasy vs real life argument, I would say City is just as fantastical as Indiana Jones/Pirates/Castle/SW, and kids are well aware of that.
  23. I belong in the camp that thinks the limitations of the existing parts present a challenge that should be embraced rather than trying to find short-cuts by modifying parts. I dont think I could cut or recolor parts, because of the feeling that I am destroying a perfectly good part that I wont be able to use as originally intended. Of course, not having any experience with modification, I would also be afraid of doing a sloppy job and destroying the part completely. Although I have no experience with electric or railway parts, so maybe in those cases the limitations may be impossible to overcome without modification. And of course I cant how other people work with their LEGO, so different strokes for different folks and all that.
  24. Probably not; they plan waves well in advance, before they would have sales figures for this wave. I guess it could happen if the license had several more years left (and even then, sales figures for The Hobbit dont necessarily convey interest in LotR)...
  25. As a Trek fan (not sure if I qualify as a Trekkie) I find this ridiculous; I would say Star Trek is way more kid-friendly that Star Wars. If it was due to another company having the Trek license, I would assume the Ideas people would say as much, so I have no idea what the heck this is about...
