  1. Impressive, simply impressive, both in looks and in time-frame of only 6 months. Well done! For those new in these waters, visit and look @Captain Sinclair version of HMS Victory - and brace yourself for some jaw dropping interior
  2. @Mister Phes just to clarify something, regarding the part-count of the minifigures: Do we regard torso+arms+hands as one piece, like say on BrickLink, or we count it as it is, 5 pieces? Same question about the legs, 1 piece as a whole assembly, or 3 pieces?
  3. A big thanks to you kind Sir! I'm glad you find it pleasing to the eye. On to another topic. I found time and played around with the new 10320 Eldorado Fortress, trying to see how Triton would fair around her waters... Mind you, Triton sails under Governor Broadside's command, who might have a question or two for the Admiral sitting in his office back at the fort!
  4. This is mine favourite also. Somehow everything seems just perfect there, and if you ever decide to build one out of real bricks, I encourage you go with Cartagena
  5. Indeed, you are correct and I'm happy you caught on to this little detail. The trouble with young Sargent is, he deflected Pirates for Bluecoats, however his blurry history made him a perfect scapegoat when some money embezzlement happened right under the Governor Broadside nose. His luck turned from bad to worse when Pirates got their hands on him. One could say he is pitched between the rock and hard place. Only option is, escape pirates, steal their gold, and clear your name before high Admiralty. But... he was also caught by a terrible tempest and thus his adventure is only beginning. Yes, well... his initial idea was to put vegetable merchant on the first floor, with crates full of veggies. However, I introduced to him an idea of tavern-girls who entertain sailors and give them beds for a good night sleep... and with that the merchant was fed to the sharks. Even if he is only 10 years old, he knows all the basics on the topic of intercourse. I think we watched Conan the Barbarian 1982 when he was only 6-7 years old, and if you recall, Arnie has his ways with several women during the movie. And thank you for your kind comments! @Horation The minifigs were assembled in Studio.io using existing torsos, heads and accessories from the parts library. Maybe I used one or two unavailable colours here and there, but I did not use Part-designer to make anything custom in this creation. @Horation @Rogue Redcoat and @iragm I thank yee all for finding time and sharing your constructive feedback with me and my young nephew. I'm forcing encouraging him to work in Studio.io at least 2 hours per week, or sometimes only 1 hour. Usually we sit side by side at my place, each with his own notebook, and work. We have been doing this for the past half year, and I get regularly amazed by his potential. I also give him to browse/read Classic-Pirates.com every two months, to get ideas and marvel at other awesome creations. You can rest assured we went through all entries so far so he can get a feeling what we are up against. Like many of us, he already pointed out obvious winner candidates (mainly those two Islanders MOCs). We are not living under any illusion of this being the winner entry, and the contest is far from being over with enough time for other master-builders to chip in and make everyone run for the cover. On the other hand, I'm happy that this contest motivated him to build something special, and that we did it together which is reward in its own for me as his uncle. For his part, he is getting this build for his upcoming birthday so in total, we both benefited from this contest immensely. As for the design, large portion of this creation is really all him. I can take only credit for adding the 'playability' elements: the convenient swinging rock for an easy escape, hidden treasure inside the rock (the rock was already there from his design), hanging shark and... of course the brothel, which questions the legitimacy of this entry. Sorry, but I could not resist it, that's all me (too much of Black Sails series) I will take in all of your feedback and try to make improvements where I can before the end of the contest - of course if young Master Lawrence Black agrees. Thank yee all again
  6. NEWLY UPDATED VERSION - 12. August 2023. ORIGINS For this contest I decided to collaborate with the most fearsome pirate I happen to know, my 10-year old nephew Lawrence Black. It was he who chose the tavern/house look (you are welcome Jack Sassy), and to his credit has worked relentlessly on the first several designs during the last few weeks. The original inspiration came from Van Dyke Island by @Cincinnati, as he was smitten by it when he caught the glimpse of it on the Classic-Pirates.com. The problem as he saw it, it was too big for him to have it! So he explained to me he will re-do it his way on a much lower scale. Yeah right... I thought, so I threw him an offer: "Make it good, I will help you with details and then we will enter the Contest together. Make it really good, and I will even make instructions for ReBrickable" To my surprise, he did just that and true to my word I jumped in and added some of my magic to his original design - mainly fixing half a dozen structural issues and adding details. Good thing I introduced him to Studio.io when he was only eight. From there we played around together with ideas, we experimented back and forth with various options until we came to the final design. He will get this set for his upcoming eleventh birthday, and after the first test-build, I plan to make the instructions available - best estimate late September 2023. Last but not the least, I took the liberty to write a storyline behind the build and produce a slick comic for your entertainment only. Enjoy. THE SINISTER ISLAND BACKSTORY UPDATE 12. August 2023. - what's different? Following the suggestions of the most kind and helpful creative critiques, here be the list of changes: -> Removed five minifigures, (including Madam Brothel) as the set looked overcrowded -> Made a new fireplace with flames and removed the grill -> Added more weapons around the ground floor, mainly cutlasses and muskets stored in barrels. Added swivel gun on the first floor -> Changed the colours of the rocks, darkbluishgray on the bottom... lightbluishgray on the top -> Added technic brick with pin on the rock to allow easier rotation of the plant covering the hidden chest -> Removed the bed from Captain Redbeard's quarter and added table and his chair instead. Added telescope on his fence -> Replaced the rock bricks on the top gun-nest with wooden bricks -> Replaced the string on stairs for a real wooden rail -> Updated all of the renders Old -first- version hidden inside the spoiler
  7. Well done! You seem to be unstoppable within your shipyard, but I need to ask, to this day which one (galleon) is your favourite one?
  8. Wonderful, simply wonderful. I immediately got some of the AC: Black Flag flashbacks when seeing this. Hats off to your huge build!
  9. I second this, and appeal to your good side to return the images and edit the name of the topic from [ENTRY] to -> [MOC] as you have decided to pull-out from the contest, which is also a shame because (I'm gonna say it again) you made an awesome re-make of highly overlooked classic-set. Please consider this.
  10. I misunderstood the scope of the second category and unintentionally gave wrong clarification. I can only offer my sincere apologies for the confusion.
  11. In the Return of the Classic-Pirates contest there are TWO separate categories - full details here 1. Design a new Classic-Style set - where the emphasis is building a creation that could pass as an official LEGO set. 2. Remake an existing Classic set - where the emphasis is a remake of the LEGO Pirate set, where builders shows LEGO group how it's done! As it was politely pointed up, this does not belong in the first builders category, as it's too detailed and does not carry that classic-pirates 90's vibe. However, this is a remarkable remake which captures all the crucial points of the second category (Remake an existing Classic-set). Here be past examples of what it means where builders shows LEGO group how it's done. None of these would pass as a LEGO set, but they are still phenomenal pirate-themed designs which would be eligible for the second category if only they were made during the last month. @Rogue Redcoat @zinnn @iragm @Horation @MstrOfPppts I kindly encourage all creative critiques - if you are up to it - to give your constructive feedback in light of the second category. Thank yee! For the further discussion of the contest and the categories, please use the [CONTEST] topic here so we can have things centralised. Thank yee, again! @A_Goodman Given the brief explanation from above, I don't think you missed the concept at all! You made an awesome re-make of highly overlooked classic-set which fits nicely within the second contest category. Best of luck!
  12. Fine work @zinnn On another topic, it was brought to my attention that phenomenal studio.io file of the POBB set, made by @Robin_IV, is still available on his BrickSafe account -> LINK HERE
  13. Ahoy @blueheaven These specifications are based on the digital design inside the BrickLink Studio 2.0, and they are pretty much deadly accurate.
  14. Aye, I did, but they are incomplete. Eldorado is missing the Merchant cutter ship, and POBB needs all those small details when transformed into the island. As for the rest of my builds, I did the old BSB and Caribbean Clipper - although without the digital blue/white sails.
  15. Well, no wonder you are a 10K club member, this is simply great. The photos, background story, huge attention to the smallest detail, custom brick-built ship, angled structures... just wow! And look there, a seagull nest! Excellent!
  16. Just keep at it, and don't trouble yourself with this conpetition! My projects usually take 6-9 months (or more)... If you bring the same level of attention to details to the rest of this build, this could very well be the most awesome Islanders MOC of the decade. As for feedback and ideas, you can avoid those A-pieces and use good-old ball&socket if that helps. Here, the image is worth many many words.
  17. @Dorino your take on this Classic set was on the Classic-Pirates.com
  18. I could not resist it... I ran this via Google just to be sure Well done, truly impressive presentation skills and fantastic classic build!
  19. Beautiful as ever @Amedeo and lovely storytelling. Well done on this lavish update/merge of old and modern 1. Design a new Classic-Style set Imagine you're a designer working for the LEGO Group and you've been tasked with designing a brand new classic-style LEGO Pirate set. The emphasis is building a creation that could pass as an official LEGO set. The design could be pure classic 1989-1997 style or modern like Barracuda Bay. But remember! Official LEGO sets have a more limited part count than MOCs and the onus is to convince everyone your creation is an official set. 2. Remake an existing Classic set Which classic LEGO Pirate set should the LEGO Group remake next? You show them how it's done! The creation can be any existing LEGO Pirate set except for 6276 Eldorado Fortress and the 6285/10040 Black Seas Barracuda because they've been remade (but feel free to appeal that in this topic The builder contest does have TWO categories, and while it's true TLG would never release a set with overly detailed water made out of tiles, this could fit into the second category, a Remake of an existing Classic set where piece-count is only a guideline for builders not to go extremely overboard. I estimate that this is under 3000k pieces. Adding Ray the Castaway into the whole thing is a bold move, but it's nice and refreshing to see boldness from designers when they push the boundaries of creativity. As Del Boy would said it, "He who dares wins!"
  20. While we wait on the new renders (although I don't mind the blue boat... but then again, I'm partially colour blind), for the purposes of the blog-post, few quick questions: Q1: do you happen to have Instagram or YouTube channel you would like us to share in the 'About the Builder' section? Q2: do you have Rebrickable account set-up (please share link if you do, even if you have zero submitted MOCs so far)? Q3: any estimate when the instructions will become available - days, weeks, months? (it's better to have the instructions ready for sale before we publish the article, as that gives you immense worldwide coverage, and if all goes well, some notable revenue from sales)
  21. Most excellent, thank yee for this contribution, if we ever get the database up and running, your name should be engraved next to each file. ACTION PLAN - for people interested in this project 1. Create here the definitive list of all Pirate-themed sets (POTC included), and pin that list as the first post of this thread. [Who -> community effort] For example 1464: Pirate Lookout - Studio.io file: YES - uploaded by VictoryCount, edited by CaptainN00B <-this means this is DONE! 1481: Pirates Desert Island - Studio.io file: YES - uploaded by VictoryCount, - NEEDS WORK <- this means it's open for everyone ...and list goes on and on 2. Crosscheck all VictoryCount LDD sets with definitive list to see if any set is missing (until 2015), and report here if something is amiss [Who -> community effort] 3. Go through all VictoryCount LDD sets, and repair/replace the missing parts, and save the files in Studio.io format [Who -> community effort] 4. Gradually create missing and newly released sets [Who -> community effort] ----------- Here is the deal. If this project succeeds, I will contribute by making the 3D custom sails for all the ships, so we finally end the practice of making the tile/plate sails, like I did for the original BSB.
  22. A mighty fine idea @zinnn, and something which @Mister Phes and I discussed at some length (a while back) as an addition to the Classic-Pirates.com vault. We thought of something like Brickset, but only for Pirate-themed sets, with HD-quality renders and, as you say, 3D Studio.io files free for grabbing. Given the scale of the project, and us being overwhelmed with regular flow of work (writing blog-posts, social-media promotion, and maintaining the C-P website and this forum, and myriad of other tasks), at the end we concluded that this could only work if we make it a community project. Now, to the second part, there is a thread somewhat like this on Eurobricks HERE. You can find a great number of 'Pirate sets' here in digital, which can be opened in Studio.io. Given the constantly newly added parts in the Studio library, many of these digital creations could be easily improved as they 'missed' some printed parts back in the day when they were created in the limited LDD software. Now the question is, can designers find time and energy to re-create something for the good of the community, or will they rather use that time to create MOCs? But, let's say several designers decide they want to jump-in and help, in your opinion, where and how should we begin?
  23. Actually, it took me somewhere around 12-14 straight hours, I think. Anyway, here is the POBB file which you so nicely asked for: LINK I skipped some parts on the 'Island version'... didn't found energy to switch those decorations, but as a whole you will find it useful.
  24. How did you make that background - the sea, night sky? You found image on web... or photoshop layer after layer?
  25. Your good conscious is worthy of the highest praise, and it shall be rewarded with a blog-post in the near time future. Are you planning to make the instructions available on ReBrickable? I think you should. And if you never tried that (making the instructions), it's easier than you think, especially for a build with less than 1000k pieces.
