Heroica RPG - Quest #4: Taming the Lions
swils replied to Brickdoctor's topic in The Heroica Archive
OOC: Well of course they're not Mopags, they don't look pale or fleshy at all! They look big and hairy and scary... and hungry /OOC Benji, Leo, you've both got smoke bombs, right? Keep 'em at the ready. And De'kra, if things take a turn for the worst, don't hesitate to turn tail. Better to live a coward than die a feast! Thormanil lets out a nervous chuckle Gold's the least of our concerns, so we just need to make sure that rogue takes any sort of hit. If we want to focus our efforts fast and early, Tomas, you do have a fire bomb, so we can ensure that every enemy takes damage at least for the first round. Could give us a chance to take out one of the bigger threats. Though, on the flip side, that means a much higher chance of really pissing off one of those Pongcanae and landing us some party-wide damage. If we're gonna focus one, I'd say the cleric, since they're all at full health right now anyway, so a heal won't do 'em any good. Though if we want to get ballsy, the barbarian or mage... What do you all think? -

Err, Leo, any chance you could, you know, talk them down a bit? There's kind of.. a lot of them, and they look pretty strong. Thormanil nervously grips his axes, expecting the worst -

It doesn't seem like there's been any sightings of the Lion Knights up here, but I'd still rather like to talk to a few of the villagers myself, since I doubt we'll be out this way again any time soon. They might not be very welcoming, but we *do* have with us a master of diplomacy, Sir Leo, he could at the very least talk our way out of trouble, and if we're lucky, butter up some of the villagers and get us a little more intel before we head out. -
Ah, that's the Advanced Jobs, Sandy has said the exact details for those will be released when someone hits 15 (the first level hybriding is available).

The weapons/armor and such are limitations of each class, rather than requirements for them. A knight's still a knight, even if he only has a club (that he can't wield).

Thank you kindly, friend. I'll leave you to your business. Thormanil heads towards the entrance, waiting to see if any of the party have found out anything of interest -

I, uh.. Sorry 'bout scaring off your friend. Listen, I'll be straight with ya. I'm looking for information regarding the recent caravan raidings. We've got reason to believe the insignia on this dagger Thormanil shows the man-bear the dagger may be related somehow to the guilty party. We've been jumped by bandits, mauled by nasty little forest vermin, and almost had a run-in with a terrifying feral bear. Tell me you've got a lead that can help us bring this hellish journey to a close? Thormanil sits back and waits, satisfied with his melodramatic tale of misery and woe. -

Come on, folks! We're at the only establishment that caters to non-Mopags in the entire town! Now, we had quite the journey ourselves, getting here, surely some of these patrons are of the adventuring sort, and have stories of their own to tell? Let's ask around! Maybe someone's tale will inadvertently give us a clue towards the raidings! Thormanil signals for the group to roam the tavern, and inquire of the various patrons' stories. For his own part, he walks up to the table where the large manbear, and Wolfgang member are seated, and immerses himself in the conversation, keeping a keen ear our for anything regarding the raidings or the insignia. (Thinking, to himself) If the conversation hasn't gone anywhere useful by the time the others are starting to return from their various inquiries around the tavern, I'll just flat out bring up the matter of the dagger and insignia, and see if I can't press for any information. -
My, how time flies when you're having fun! Edit: In other news, my own personal, updated Thormanil minifig (or the parts, at least) are somewhere between the UK and Alaska. Quite looking forward to getting that one in the mail, heh.

Well, that's not to say we won't ever encounter them.. there's still two nights of travel. And I'm sure this isn't the last time we'll be traveling through the forest. I just, uh, I'd rather not have to face off against anything even close to my own monstrosity! Although, De'Kra does have a smoke bomb... hm..

Those footprints, are they along the trail, or off into the brush? If they're not leading to anything interesting, I'm all for continuing on into town. There've been whisperings of a nasty new breed of bear being sighted in these parts, so I'm not eager to linger here any longer than necessary! -

Well, we're already over halfway there, and we haven't found anything so far that we can really take back to Bric'lin to further our investigation.. I say we check out Mopag! What's the worst that could happen? -
We need to get out of this forest, fast, and never, ever return. Lol

Furry Swilsbear Health: 50 Power: 10 Special: Cute and Cuddly (Rather than dandruff, these bears shake off flakes of sugar, spice and everything not-so-nice. Aggressor is overcome by nurturing thoughts, and rather than attack the bear, gently pets and encourages the creature, restoring 5 health, and increasing its power by 1 for one turn.) Unique Trait: Retaliation (If hit by splash damage from an attack that wasn't initially aimed at this creature, the bear swipes at the aggressor, dealing one third of its power as unmitigatable damage) /shudder

Could have been worse, just imagine if any one of us had rolled a target-all attack as well, heh. I do, though, fear for the challenge of later encounters if you consider the dice rolls thus far when balancing the fights... haha

Xander, I've never seen that side of you before, but I like it! Keep swinging! Thormanil readies his axes for another attack against Black Mopag Scorpion from the front row -
Err, my About Me, yeah. That's where my info is. User Profile, About Me, same difference :P

Oh, the evils I hath wrought! @Jeb, I tried it using the acronym style as Brickdoctor has, but I just found it to be too cluttered. I'm keeping track of any and all of those statistics/modifiers in my user profile, now.

Hearing a voice in the back of his head, Thormanil feels compelled to reply Next fight? How about just next encounter, hm? Maybe they can lead us to a secret grotto where magical berries grow that enhance our abilities, rather than trying to bite and claw and constrict and croak us to death? More than a few of his fellow party members turn their attention to Thormanil briefly, wondering who he is talking to, or even, why is he talking about magical berries at a time like this. Most pray that the Barbarian hasn't gone off his rocker on the eve of their most challenging fight so far -

And here I was hoping to get a good night's rest! I thought small furry forest creatures were supposed to be friendly! We should keep our mages away from the spider, the last thing we need is one of them to confusedly launch a blast of darkness our way. Same goes for Tomas, I think, with the added threat of the bioluminescent scorpion -- I don't want my healer falling asleep on the job! In terms of priority, I think that the spider, bird, and frogs need to go first. Those frogs especially. Can you imagine if they all manage to focus their efforts three times in a single round? Ouch! Actually, I'll try to take out one of the slimy pests myself, right off the bat! Thormanil prepares to attack Mopag Frog A from the front row -
"Him" being the barbarian contestant, or Chris? Edit: Disregard question that was here. The above stands, though.
-
Heh, lucky Chris! Had the barbarian landed a normal hit, the poor knight would be lying face down on the arena floor right now. Interesting to see how the scaling mechanic of the proc on the hammer actually hindered it's user on that last turn. Edit: Cralegoboy, I just read back a few messages on this thread and realized I'd missed what you'd said between my posts. You and your family have my best wishes.
-
Ah, that'll do it. Had some +'s and #'s in there. I'll give it another go later today, after my lab. On that note, off to lab!
-
Hey doc, you mentioned in the Arena thread that you're using the acronym feature in your signature. I rather like the idea, and could definitely see it being useful for keeping track of individual stats (like the modifier to Thormanil's power, for instance). I tried to use it in my signature, but the code just came up as text. Is this another feature that will be "unlocked" as I become more active on EB, much like the line limit in signatures?

And what's behind the plants that are behind these plants? (More plants.) And behind *those* plants? (...) Okay, okay fine. So, are we setting up camp here for the night? Thormanil gathers up the wreckage of the caravan and tosses it in the center of the clearing, hoping one of the mages could snap their fingers and spark up a little campfire
