  1. That's correct, you aren't expected to forget anything you were told previously just because they died. And I don't blame Norbert at all for using the information he got to help the town win. I do, however, find it incredibly childish that a scum would rat out fellow scum, especially in the face of death. As was established earlier in the thread, a win is a win for -the whole team-, regardless of whether you survived or not. If one must die to help the many, that's just how the game goes.
  2. Thanks, and yes, the shoulderpads are a cobe helmet sliced in half, minus the neckguard (took a nice chunk of my finger with it, heh). The regular cape pattern doesnt fit between the pauldrons in the back, and barely/doesnt fit properly underneath them, so I've been toying with thinner designs, havent found any that I've loved yet, though. I really wanted to equip him with a cloak that fully surrounded him, shoulders to.ground, but that just wasnt cooperating at all.
  3. My thoughts exactly. It's a really well crafted figure, but it just doesn't feel like LEGO beyond its scale. I do love ghe facial details, though!
  4. "It is better to say nothing and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."
  5. I was going to vote for the Skull Hut, personally, but really, any of them are fine by me
  6. Thormanil prepares to attack the Blue Assassin from the front row (again).
  7. Surprise twist ending to Q4: The Lion Knights are a ruse. Keveak's been spreading those rumors and planting evidence for a long time now. We face him in an ultimate standoff. But right before we start to fight, we notice a small force of giant swilsbears... bearing (teehee) down on us. They're big and evil and snarling and furry and brutish and have big sharp claws. Turns out Keveak pissed em off, and they're here to help us. Moments later, Keveak's head is rolling, we've won the quest, and the swilsbears are our eternal allies, for some reason. Woo!
  8. Woohoo, I've been itching for a fight! Thormanil prepares to attack the Blue Assassin from the front row.
  9. He sure turned on us quickly. And I don't much care for how he's so hell-bent on usurping Ricroar's power. By the way, who the heck *is* Lord Ricroar? Wonder if he knows that one of his higher-ups is out for his seat of power? I think we should go on with our plan, we haven't got much else to do, anyhow, now that we're not working for Keveak. Oh, and welcome back, Xander! How'd Keveak treat ya?
  10. Thanks, guys. @Wardancer, I hadn't even considered using tape on a model this small, I'll give it a try when I touch up the helmet. Thanks for the reminder! @Luxor, Yup, I'll have the vig and other angles up sometime in the next week or two. Wanted to keep a few tricks up my sleeve, with so long left in the contest
  11. Serrus, the Druids' Claw Far to the south of the royal kingdom there exists a vast marshlands. In ages past, roads and bridges wove their way across this swampy region. At its heart, there had existed a temple, dedicated to nature. It was tended to by the druids, men devoted to the natural world, in tune with the wind, the currents, and the wildlife. When the Age of Magic had seen its last, the kingdom turned to the druids for guidance. When should they plan to harvest? When would they finally get rain? The druids, as far as they had removed themselves from the modern world, had somehow found themselves at its very heart. Villagers began making pilgrimages to the temple, and the druids were revered as holy men. But they were not miracle workers. They did what they could to help the kingdom, offering advice and guidance, but it wasn't enough. Nature was going to take its course, and the druids could only predict it; they had no power to prevent it. Almost as quickly as they had gained popularity, they fell out of favor. Folk abandoned the region for 'greener pastures', leaving the marshlands a mess. The roads were left to the weather, and soon swallowed by the swamps. The druids were eventually all but cut off from the outside world. Were it not for dutiful scribes and scholars, the temple and its keepers would have been lost to the annals of time. It was only a few days ago that the messenger had arrived. How he had gotten here, Serrus had no clue. There were no roads, and it had been ages since the area had been mapped, as far as he knew. But somehow, the young man had made the journey. And now, it was Serrus' turn. He was to travel to the royal castle himself, and appear at The Tournament as a representative for his temple. It was the elders' wish that he attend, and win, so that he may request aid on the druids' behalf. The order's numbers had dwindled over the years, and the temple itself was beginning to fall into disarray. If only they could rebuild the roads, they might be able to restore the order to its former strength, gathering more who wished to strengthen their bond with Mother Nature. Gathering his equipment, he recalled the elders' advice. He was not to take his scythe nor his sickles. As effective in combat as he was with them, the elders believed that the crowds would not understand their use, and may fear him, rather than sympathize with his cause. They had told him he was only to bring a sword, shield, and lance, but he insisted upon having his halberd at his side. With his faithful page at his side, he set out from the temple. Just in case they ask him to joust... Brickshelf folder, for when it's made public: Clicky Cost of materials: Materials used in the final piece? I'd say less than $5.00 USD Materials used on all prototypes, and including excess/leftover? Heh, well, much closer to $50.00 USD I bought 5x 12ml Citadel paints, lots of superglue and frayguard, several yards of cloth, and some jewelery wire/chain/string. I've got a *ton* of left over material, and plan on doing a lot more customization work. Post-project thoughts: *I really wish I'd managed to get a cape design that I'd liked, to work. Or at least had something to do with the back of the fig. I didn't want to load on more chainmail, nor did I want to just draw on a design. *I'd gone into the project with the goal of making a custom cloth barding and armor for a horse, but again ran into the issue of not being able to settle on a design that I liked/that worked well. Additionally, plans for the figure changed a bit, and I opted against using a horse at all. I'll definitely keep working at it though, as I plan to make a small faction in this theme. *Parts selection. Ugh. I wish I had my full LEGO collection at my disposal. Probably my biggest regret? Not having a plain white torso to use. I had to paint one white, and this means that the arms are fairly set in stone. The pauldrons are glued onto the arms, and before painting the torso, the right shoulder moved with the arm a bit, but the left wouldn't stay glued to the arm, I had to secure it to the torso. Unfortunately, it was still sort of attached to the arm, so the left arm has been fixed in place for quite some time. Also, painting the legs made it almost impossible to reposition them without ruining the paint. I might have to try my hand at decals next time I work on a figure. *More to come, I'm sure. It's late, I'm tired, these were my main thoughts. I'll edit more in as they come to me. Archived, first post:
  12. I'm all for continuing on with the quest at hand.
  13. <3 <3 <3 Ive been slowly working on a figure for category 3, but was afraid I'd have to scramble to get it finished over the weekend. Very glad tp hear youve extended the deadline!
  14. It's true, the presentation has been great. Everything is so shiny (and well built, of course)! Haha, and the scenes with all the characters are great too. Ain't no lounging around in this circus, everybody's always doing *something*
  15. Yore sense of humor may have had an audience in the days of your, but it'll only get you're big behind whooped in today's civilized society.
  16. Well, you're the one playing, I figured you've gotta have a better idea of what's going on than we do. Heck, you coulda told me that if a fella loses 3 tricks in a row, he's gotta run around the tavern au natural three times before play can continue, and I'd have taken your word as truth! Ha ha! Seems you're playing a best of 9, and it ain't blind play. You could try to get rid of some of your low cards early, hoping to sweep the last few tricks, or try to go strong early and hope he's got a weak hand. I'd save your face cards for his lead, I think. But heck, whadda I know?
  17. Huh? I'm just so good at being bad
  18. Whoops, sure enough, my good man. So, to clarify, tricks last for a total of two cards? He drops a two, you drop a three, you win the trick, then you drop a king, he drops a king, trick ties, then he drops a queen but you have nothing higher than a knave in your hand, so he collects that trick and the previous? Or do you play one card at a time, up to four on the table?
  19. If I understood the game properly, then yes, that's the basic idea. Now, I'm not quite sure if two cards are played per round, or four (one each vs two each), but I do believe play starts with the dealer. Personally, I'd try to top his card by a small margin, leaving yourself as many high value cards as possible for use as the values increase.
  20. So, as per the first day, we can't vote quickly, because that gets us killed... and as we saw yesterday, we can't sit quietly and wait til later, because *that* is what got the poor Benzini brothers killed. Forget for a minute that it might be a good idea to allow accusations and rebuttals to play out and be considered before I cast my vote to kill someone each day, because that is such an easy decision to make. What would you have me do differently, Dorothea?
  21. I.. um.. Dorothea, have you perhaps been drinking today? I know it is a stressful time for all of us, but... You've got me really confused here. And I can't afford to be confused. I will consider what you've said, but tomorrow will make or break your claims. Vote: Dorothea (Darthnihilus)
  22. Having caught the name of the game, Thormanil watches a few more hands, hoping to get a feel for how an average round might go. He's short on change now, but he'd like to have an understanding of the game for when the group is next in Brobric. OOC: Any chance of "playing" a hand between the two men? Reading the description vaguely reminds me of "War".
  23. Thormanil wanders over to the men playing cards and watches a few hands, trying to figure out what game they are playing.
  24. Taking a step back to speak with Shawe, Thormanil lets Tomas continue speaking with Normorn, Well, of course, I just sorta lumped that in under "further instruction." Besides, that's the part I'm most looking forward to--anyone important enough to warrant an assassination almost always has some fancy sword or otherwise, to set them apart from their nameless goons! Ha ha!
