Heroica RPG - Quest#35: Rescue the Maa’ri!
swils replied to Jebediahs's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Damned impatient ranger. I'm tellin' ya, we coulda handled 'fink just fine afterwards." Thormanil attacks Head Guard twice from the front row. -
Could we possibly be enlightened?

Just as a general note, I usually do my best to avoid leet-speak or similar. When I do say something as ugly as "souper-srs", it's usually to make a point (though again, I'd have to look back to remember what that point may have been, heh).
-
*What the megablocks is “souper-srs-mode”??? Super serious mode, though without rereading, I can't remember why exactly I used it, just that I meant for it to not actually be taken seriously (I think?). *If I was Swils, I’d just have played sheep and voted for Draggy. No need to discuss things out. :sigh: Because it was painfully obvious that this was another bad sting. I'd commented on the baiting/stinging several times already, and wasn't about to bite. *(I actually don't feel like finding the quote again, but I think it was Hinck who "congratulated" WBD on finding "giving up" to be a town tell) From our writeboard: *Swils sure does love to pre-argue points that make him Scum… I've been working stupid-long shifts at my previously mentioned new job. It resulted in some downright awful play on my part, as was quickly picked up on in the deadboard (though, seemingly not so often in the actual day threads). I was only able to post so often between sleep and work and so I tried to keep myself from getting involved in anything that would require frequent responses. Unfortunately, somewhere along the line I decided that I should also try to pre-argue so that I could have some sort of defense in case I came under fire but wasn't able to defend myself at the time. This was especially true on that one late-night unvote of Shadows (Hey, Fug approved of it when I demo'ed my post in the scumboard! haha). I really wouldn't have been surprised if I'd woken up to find out that a majority had hopped onto me in the wee hours of the morning, when I simply couldn't have defended myself. I tried to pre-emptively stop that from happening. As has been pointed out, the town simply wasn't functioning well enough to put that into action, and I'd have been much better off not saying anything at all. It's midnight, time to be getting to sleep, methinks. I'm curious what the special surprise would have been had fhomess targeted me.

Dead board looks like it was 100x more fun :(

Odd, that conflicts quite directly with the general consensus and advice/comments I got during/after Yakuza Mafia. Didn't we all? Something that made me laugh, from the dead board: And then, from our own board, about the same thing:

Heh, I have really bad short term memory, apparently. I was trying to reply to: "In the end, I can say I pegged each scum before they were revealed (though early on I thought WBD was the 5th" but thought it had read as "before they were serious public targets" or something similar. In the process of reading the deadboard now (and would have to check the date on your actual post about it in the day thread), but as of 2 Aug.. Thanky! I hope I didn't come off as discrediting your efforts before--you really pulled through for the town (and got on my case way earlier than I'd have liked, heh). That was a wicked last two days for you, I must say.

Bob, I need to say it up front: I loved playing 2.0. Even when it got frustrating (and believe me, there were occasions where it got really, really frustrating), I still loved to hate it. The timing was unfortunate, as I really was bedlining my jeep (a 2-day project that became a 4-day) for most of Day 1, and then I got a new job before Day 2 was up. I guess the relative inactivity did help my 'clueless townie' appearance, though I checked in as often as I was able, even reading & posting from my phone during breaks at work. Very sorry that I couldn't devote more time to the game, I know you worked hard to make it happen twice! Ah, I was about to quote my role from 1.0, but it appears that it did carry over. I never actually got clarification on it, but I interpreted "You will try to defend yourself each night if attacked" as some sort of retaliatory role (bomb/pgo). That's why I mentioned it to fhomess in the first place (I was Player Y, if anyone remembers that). It is quite possible that my interpretation was wrong, but at the time, I just wanted to smack you across the face, Shadows, for thinking that your bomb-claim was the inspiration for it, heh. Certainly, there could be no reason to avoid killing you other than your claim. Granted, I did question it at one point, but trust me, you weren't left alive solely because of your retaliatory claim, heh. I'll admit, he played a very strong game in the latter days, but I think the town owes their win, in large part, to Hinckley and his stump role. Such a powerful investigation role. Being allowed to hang onto the investigation for more than just the night of his death, being allowed to further narrow down his suspicions by asking players for their alignment? Even though he wasn't allowed to investigate those players after asking for their alignment, he was able to check them off his list of potential targets. I think that we had a pretty strong scum line up, but that role really just pulled the carpet out from under all of Scuba's efforts. That single investigation was the turning point of the game, and you'll have a hard time convincing me otherwise. I didn't actually know that I was the godfather (and thus, investigation-proof) until Day 6, when I asked Bob, because none of us had any mention of it in our roles. That knowledge from Day 1 would have definitely resulted in a different approach from the get go. But alas. Oh lord, the stings / 'set-up wagons'. Seriously. Oh, and one last thing WBD was on to me, in public, long before Aug. 8th, Shadows, so your PM doesn't prove that you were on to me before any sort of public and serious suspicions /dance

"Hrmm.. True. And he didn't hesitate to rat out his cellmates. But he certainly looks like an orc t'me, and we're here to find orcs.. I doubt he'll really pose that much of a threat if we need to tske him down after taking out the guard. " -

Thormanil rushes to attack the head guard from the front row, but is yanked backwards by the cuffs. Grumbling, he attacks from the back row instead. -

"A deal? If you'll all stick around and help us take out this head guard, then we'll talk about a deal with swords sheathed and fists at our sides, eh?" Thormanil attacks the Head Guard from the front row, dragging Arasmyth with him. -
Oh, so you do have actual reasons! Well that's a relief. I know that you aren't exactly trying to convince anyone here, as there's obviously enough of you taking part in those discussions to lynch me and never utter a reason why in public, but it'd sure be nice, from my end, to know even just a fraction of that (and I'm sure our dearly departed friends wouldn't mind hearing any of it, either), heh. Though, even when I have had conversations in private (which, admittedly, I was the one contacted, not the one to reach out), I've been dropped back out quickly, and I'd bet that has plenty to do with the very same investigation results (or in my case, lack thereof). As for two scum ganging up on Wheeler, there were also, what, four? other folks who hopped on that with them. And as I told Wilder in private a bit ago, I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that Vanderbilt and Francis could have had a plan to redirect their (and others') votes, as it was still early in the day. But none of that really changes anything. You're all deadset on me for one reason or another, and there's all of a few minutes left. Going to sound like a broken record here. I think that your best bet will be Wheeler or Jones. Out of all the possible scenarios I can imagine in which the purists make a late game gamble, the one involving Wheeler, where he appears to take an early bussing that later in the day gets turned around onto someone else, seems the most reasonable and plausible. No purists would be harmed in that ploy. Holloway's scenario would have him bussing one of his own AND killing one (as I've now been informed), which seems both unreasonable, and an utterly stupid trade to make just to solidify yourself as a loyalist. Jones is a possibility too, but that's just on the assumption that he's bluffed his roleclaim. If I were alive tomorrow, and I had to pick between those two, I would definitely say Wheeler. But that's just me.

D'oh, just got back in touch with you. Gave you my suspicions (well, thoughts) which, as I mentioned there, I've mostly touched on in public already. Saying that Harper, Wheeler, and Holloway all have town results, and I don't, still seems like a really weak case to me. It's like luck of the draw. If I'd been investigated, one of them would be in my shoes right now. Heck, I'd ask you to investigate me tonight, but then I'd have people breathing down my neck about "You want an investigation? You must be the godfather! Bring us his head!" To which I'd say, "Well, okay, sure I could, but so could they, right?" They're just cleared of suspicion and thus don't have to ask for the investigation result because they already have been. Also, bugger, I previously said Vanderbilt, and meant Francis. Whoops.

Alternatively, just drop more WP:5-15 weapons (once people in a given quest have WP:19+). Either those lower WP weapons will get sold to other players, or vendored off for gold to put towards more straight WP upgrades. Vendor trash. It's a valid and effective mechanic for limiting a quester's income during a quest without negatively affecting the gold they can leave the quest with.

Unlimited Quest looks great. I'm a bit curious--are the threshold monsters one-time deals, or will each new party that enters have to (and/or have the chance to) beat the threshold monsters? Also, I know you hate it when people comment on something before we've even had a chance to see it in action, and that it'll be a long time before it becomes an issue.. but I think there should be an upkeep cost on that trident pitchfork. It'll be an awfully disappointing second place finish for whoever just barely gets beaten out in the race to 500 GP. Edit: Pitchfork, not Trident

Don't worry, I understand that quite well. It was the basis, if not entirety, of your reasoning for going after me a few days ago as well. I just think it's utterly laughable. As I've mentioned before, I'm not privy to what's going on in all your private talks, so if something else got you further cleared (beyond an investigation result), then the only things differentiating you and I are the facts that you've been investigated, and that you've been a part of the talks. Well, that and the fact that you (if you are, hypothetically, scum) bussed the hell out of Vanderbilt yesterday, but that could have just been a high risk, high reward gamble (obviously wasn't the killer, and it would all but solidify you as a townie). Long story short, no one's taken my opinion seriously all game anyway, so I doubt I can say anything to change your minds at this point, either. Oh, really? Gosh, no one would have ever guessed.
-
And again I'll ask you, what are those suspicions? I'll be bluntly honest -- I haven't got a clue what's going on behind closed doors, so I don't have any insight into the accusation against you. You haven't set off any alarms for me up to this point. Yet you're apparently dead set on this idea that I'm the last purist, even in the face of what you claim to be a flat out lie (you don't have an action, yet you somehow got tracked as targeting Hornby). Am I just the easy target for you because you don't want to risk attacking someone in the town block? Because that's what it looks like.

Without bothering to comment on your reasoning at all. Gosh, your case is so convincing, I think I'm going to Vote: Smailliw Nosilla (sliws) too!
-
That's great and all, but maybe you could actually say why you suspect that I'm the last purist, other than because two other people suspected me? You say that I've been of note to you for a while, so surely you must have some actual reasons? Further, it seemed to me (and was never really addressed, as far as I can remember) that Holloway's case could just as easily have been about himself, except for the simple fact that he was investigated. I wouldn't necessarily say that having two purists secure an early band wagon should clear the target, but in this case, Wheeler hasn't really done anything to make me think that he needs to be cleared. I didn't think Wheeler was a good target yesterday, and I remain of that opinion today.
