Hi Thank you KDM for this detailed review! It was fun to read also and makes me think about my decision not to start with SW sets but with technic. For any brand new AFOL and SW fan this set is a must have start. Altought i decided not to collect minifigs this set makes me think about this too. A question: What happen to the cover if you put the ship upside down if someone will reproduce the escape from the large asteriod worm/monster :) Dino

Hi this is nice and detailed for its size. Why do you use a greenscreen without changing the background as movies does? I would like to see this infront of a movie scene. Dino

Hi the colorful side reminds me a lot of my last Paris visit 1998. I was amazed how brave the architecs have been to put such a building neerby famous old landmark. That will only (or at first) happen in Paris! But are not the colorful tubings also horizontal and not only vertical? Dino

Hi Thank you Gekke. Yes, i know the rims of the Offroader and the Unimogs are quite differnt. But i had to know if i also have to purchase not only rims and tires of the Unimog but also the full wheel fitting maybe plus suspension. Now i will use the 8x fittings and suspension of the Offroader. Dino

Hi i have a question regarding the 8110s wheels: I am highly interested in them without feeling the need to purchase one or two sets. I have seen the fitting for the rims is with Unimogs unique parts but with three pin connectors. Are the wheels plus the black rims compatible with the fittings of the 8466er Offroader? I have actually 8 sets of its fittings to connect 8 wheels. I am intersted to build a large wheeled crane (larger as the 8241) with the Unimogs tires as base. But if the wheels only fit on its own fittings i have to think about purchasing two 8110 sets. Acually i could get 8 wheels plus 8 rims for ~80€. Dino

Hi interesting way to attach a wheel on an "axl" - with a PLATE as axl ;) I am not sure if i would do this (i am a purist), but your method shows your creativity. And at the end you do not do thar just for a nice looking moc but for a very funcional one. I will see if i get some of those crazy wheels for cheap... Dino -

Thank you Zblj and DLuders. And those wheels fit on technic? The sets are horrible expensive and i do not see a use of the parts except the wheels. Even a wheel pack will kost hundered euros. Zblj, can you please show me how you attached the wheels to technic? Dino -

Hi beside the unbelieveable good surface climbing abilities and general outstanding trial concept (the steering, the transmission) i would like to mention/ask two different things: I really like the design of the car itself: althought it is not a show car but a funcinal one it looks really good. The use of the special technik plates is well done. I also like where you places the PF recievers, they are looking like police flash lights. I also would like to know where you got these crazy wheels that seems to be great for trail. I have never seen them on a technic set. Dino -
Hi hehe - this Falcon has "no" detail on its top. It is - compared to other MOCs and sets) very smooth, because there are no studs. If you would replace the dish with round plates with studs (two differen diameters) it would look more detailed. Dino

[UCS MOC] Escape from Docking Bay 327
Darth Dino replied to spacepilot3000's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Hi i had to say i really loved you finished work - i allways had an eye on this on your webpage. If i remember right you had a lot of work in progress images there. At the end the lighting of the scene tops everything. On the images with difuse white light from the top you easily miss out the details that you put in. The directed light from your LEDs generates a lot of shadows that the details come up. Thank you for sharing! Dino -
Wouldn't a "Like" button improve the forum
Darth Dino replied to Vindicare's topic in Forum Information and Help
Hi yes i agree with you, we are a discussiion forum and that is a way better then just rating something. But if i really do not have to say a lot except "it is great work" i do not post that because that is no discussion. I dislike "me too postings" and try to avoid this. But this way the MOC builder gets less replies as there potentially are. Dino -
Wouldn't a "Like" button improve the forum
Darth Dino replied to Vindicare's topic in Forum Information and Help
Hi first: i dislike Facebooks "like" buttons and i never used them. But i "like" the idea to "rate" MOCs here this way. I like and i am impressed by many MOCs here but i do not post it. I feel short post as "great MOC!" as post counting. That i why i onlypost if i really think i have to add something to a discussion. Example: I really love Derfels Guide for a Medieval Village but do not post that because i am 100% inexpirienced in that theme and can not add something that had not been posted before (great work!). I am sure this way good MOCs, great MOCs and outstandig work could be differed that way. Is that necessary? I do not know, but posting in a forum always is also (in most cases not only) a way to be heard, mentioned and admired. A i "like or dislike" of someons work could be an easy way to achieve the "whole" audience opinion. My own large forum (releated to a shop) will give members the ability to "thank" other members by giving them waterdrops (watercooling company). This way most helpful members (e.g. Blackbird in technic) will earn respect another way than "pure post counting". But EB already have a alternate way by giving them individual ranks. I my eyes a good forum always benefit from its best and helpful posters so there must be a way to respect that. Dino -
Hi everything really depends on your own priorities. Some Lego purist might never touch anything else than Lego stock parts, some others might paint only a few parts that are not available in the color of their need (e.g. Anio's famous Sebula Podracer USC). Some focus on functionality, some on style and design. Only the best can manage both :) I think in general it is also theme based - Star Wars fans have more the focus on scale and design (e.g. greebles) than those that like technic. On the other hand you can still impress the whole community of Lego technic with something really ugly but with unique functionalities. A MOC for kids is different as a MOC for the display shelf. Hi i am looking for a good deal of the Supercar 8070 and found it on the german Amazon for 79.99 €. http://www.amazon.de/LEGO-Technic-8070-Super-Car/dp/B0042HOU6W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1319492967&sr=8-1 In UK it is still around 99 € but it might be also turing for you. Any ideas why this set is so discounted right now? When will that discountinued? Dino

Hi after three month of research i got one and "a half" 8466 Offroader from ebay. The super car was firstly seen on 2001. The prices today are horrible - 490€ for a new and sealed one, 150-200€ for used in "good conditions" by average. Many thank to many guys from EB that recommended me (and others) to buy dusty sets and set that probably have not all parts left. I got a dusty 8466 without a single piece lost for just 60€! There are sellers on ebay that takes 15€ for a single wheel... Last but not least i also bought a "half-one" that consists of the whole chassis including all gears, wheels, suspension and steering parts for just ~30€. So only the green metallic parts are lost, but it is still a good and functional base for a second car or parts for a 8x8. It tooks me 45minutes to disassemble the whole car for cleaning, and later to rebuild it with my son. I never had so much pain in my fingers after that because i was in a extreme hurry. The car should be a surprise and therefore i pulled out all the ~500 technic pins with lightning speed.... Man is this car well made and stiff! If you do not know where pull you will only be able to get off the green cosmetics parts. The conbination of studded and studless technic parts is unbelieveable strong. There are parts that only could get off by pulling a hidden long technic pin, otherwise you will never get them off by pulling the part itself without breaking it. My plan is to rebuild the 8466 over the weekend. I did not found a review of that nice set except the one from Siegfried where he "just" took the 8466 as base of a mod. Is anybody interested in a review of such an old set? Dino

Hi i guess this are the questiones qiqi tries to find out. But not only biologist are interested in that data but also material science researchers (mostly physics and engeneers). Creating are web can take a few hours. I have seen fast forward movies where the sider seems to be busy all the time. So maybe that thread could be pulled for hours... Althought i am a biologist with specialization in zoo-ecology, my focus has been on beetles instead of spiders, so hopefully qiqi can tell us more. Dino
-
Hi i firstly thought about a walking Machine but the other way - producing thread - also makes sense. Spider do not press out their silk, the thread will be pulled out. So if you get the thread onto a wheel you could pull that out easily. Dino
-
Hi are you looking for a "infinite walking machine" for spiders? Like those that can be used for Hamsters? I am a biologist (guest you are that too) and i wondering if large spider species probable will dislike the very even surface of Lego. I would recommend to use a inverted crawler chain that can be put together as large wheel. This is often used for Lego GBC (great ball contraptions). Anyway what species are you planning to walk this way? Most spiders (especially the large ones) are known as lurking predators and not runners ;) Dino

Hi does the woodtruck and the repairpickup have the same tires? Are these also the same as in 8258 truck? Dino -
Hi i have been today at the Lego Store in Munich. Unfortunately they had no 1x2 and 2x2 dark tan tiles as brickbuildr mentioned. Also the 2x2 black plates have been gone. Instead of all od them they had many red pieces: small and long tiles and also small plates. Intersting for SNOT have been "converter plates" that have also studs on their sides, also in red. Over all a bit disapointing for me, i just leaved the store with a single large cup for 15,99€. Dino

Hi What about the interior of the Falcon that is not available in UCS scale/detail? If it is too large, i would like to see the chess scene ir the Luke trains lightsaber scene. Bridges are a bit boring ;) Dino

New Water Technique: "Window Water"
Darth Dino replied to Yucca Patrol's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Hi i have seen a comparale layer technique of transparent brick from Spencer R. He used that for his One World Trade Center to fake mirroring surfaces. He used e few lays of clear and blue BRICKS. You will find his amazing buildings at mocpages. But i have never seen that with round plates and it looks very good for water. Dino
