Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
hikouki replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I do love how this blends "Chinatown" into an otherwise western style street! -
^^^The mushroom girl has a different torso print and legs. I wish they differentiated her more. Perhaps a different torso color? I also wonder what other mushroom cap color could have worked?

Unpopular opinion... make the GWP available for an extended period of time! Make it nice and exclusive and in and of itself collectible.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
hikouki replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I really just think that the previous "Houses of the World" should have just been modulars, and Lego could have featured different buildings from different lands. -
My bad! I have to agree with that 110%. Barad-dur and Shire were great. But Rivendell was just magnificent. So with this one. Battle pack!!!! That is it!!!! That would be an awesome GWP!!!

I actually want the gift with purchase to be quite a robust set and substantial in significance. But I get it, they should not be making it “exclusive“. What they could do is that the gift purchase is free when you buy the set (Minas Tirith, in this case), but the GWP is also available for purchase at a later date. I feel like this is more consistent with the practice of other promotional products, which may not even be toys/Lego. Didn’t they already do this when Rivendell came out? There was a GWP upon release but the set was available for purchase later on.

Couldn’t find it anymore on the two Reddit channels. Lol

That's true!!! I was thinking the same! Oh how wonderful it would have been if part of the interior could be taken out to be displayed separately. But that would probably be too much to ask.
-
So, we now have "home base" settings for Elves (Rivendell), Orcs (Barad-dur), Hobbits (Shire), and Men (Minas Tirith). Are we getting a 'home' for Dwarves next?

Looks great!

Wonder how many mini figs and if it will be a new head mould, or just new prints from existing ones.
-
Just saw the Zelda final battle set. At the back of my mind, I just wished the Balrog set was diorama-based just like this, instead of a book nook.
-
Re-use some Jurassic Park moulds.
-
They could probably do some small sets every now and then for The Hobbit. I really want another Smaug. (missed out on that one) LOL
-
After Minas Tirith, what location could be next for LOTR? Or would they start focusing on The Hobbits movies?
-
Looks like the elephant has regular red/ dark red legs? Was hoping we get regular red-orange legs for one of the previous brick suit figs. That new brick-suit is coral, is it? Or dark pink?

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

What's a concept that they have not done for a modular? - underground: They have done this for Harry Potter. Perhaps they could consider a subway station? - seaside: Perhaps a pier-style modular but with an aquatic flora and fauna scene? - non-modular floors: fixed floors but the walls flip open, or the roof flips open. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Goodness forbid that they introduce the smart brick! LOL I wonder if they might revive the attempt to make a printing press? -
I'm in for that one as well!

Minifigs have become a serious collectors' piece. If you're a serious LOTR fan, for the most part, it shouldn't matter anyway since you are likely to buy most sets, like most of us here. However, I think the LOTR line of minifigs has not quite reached the maturity of the Star Wars line. Now that they have made a helmet, I can definitely see them try something under the "Art" theme. Maybe something to hang on the wall. I would not mind a map of Middle Earth, and include some figs too. If they decide to re-do some Hobbit locations, perhaps a modular-compatible Lake-town? And perhaps a Treebeard mech?
-
Let's see, what set types have they not experimented with: Battle pack CMF Mech Modular Art Botanicals Speed Champs Mini Dolls
-
I almost feel like Lego is really poking around, trying to apply the LOTR theme to its various set types in order to see which ones 'click' with the fan base. They had a runaway success with Rivendell and tried to exploit that with Barad-dur. Now I feel they are trying to figure out what else they could sell with the least minifig/s with the most price.

Lego needs to keep looking back to the success that they had with Rivendell. It is only a section but contained important scenes and locations. And it is minifig scale. Being enough that you don't really need it to be micro scale. Yes, it better be worth it. And again I point out how Rivendell's shelf life has gotten extended. I don't mind the price if it justifies the excellent design. They designed and executed Barad-dur quite well. It has the best of both worlds. Minas Tirith interiors might end up being so cramped, given how big the structure is, and even micro scale is limited in capturing it. On the one hand, it is a difficult task, but at the same time, Lego has had years to figure this out. Many have called for Minas Tirith since Rivendell came out.

Happy Holidays, everyone! (Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!) Just for the fun of it, which animals don't have a costume counterpart, and which minifig costumes don't have an animal counterpart? Animals with no minifig costume counterpart: camel, ostrich, owl, crow, duck, octopus, lobster, crab, goat, sheep, scorpion, phoenix... Minifig costumes with no animal mold counterpart: lizard, giraffe, llama...?
