Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AndreMW replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
The City Hospital being nice but strange a Modular Hospital would be right up my alley. -
Quality is going up and down with the batches, quite some designs fall apart when used as rolling stock. Also most of the stuff is available only now and then. Buildings and trains nearly always are missing a proper interior or are even missing the groundfloor plate. Also not tested for proper running on tracks. There is simply so much you need to consider that apart from the price few things speak for them.

Lego City 2022 Rumours, Leaks, Information And Discussion

Parents in the US actually sued Lego in the past for the lack of instructions. -
The BB switches are bolted/melted in a way that you need a drill that is bigger than what you would expect. There is also quite some warping of the switches. The Trixbrix switches are qualitywise as good as injection moulded ones. And a printer delivering their quality costs 4 digits.

Well, if you really watch the videos chronologically, you will realize that he basically likes that BB release train stuff but that he more and more often asks why they nearly always go for the cheapest solution. Many of their designs do fall apart if you use them for more than display. And there are stupid decisions like putting a seat and wheel in locomotives no matter what or ignoring basic stability issues that even small children would recognize. And this also goes for the buildings which are often hollow shells which sometimes even lack floors.

I can even give you a whole YouTube channel that documents those problems.

All considered BB is 4/10. You once in a while get a set that is acceptable, but issues tend to pile up. Switches are often already damaged or warped an since they source their bricks from the cheapest factory quality is all over the place. The V100 is too small in comparison to the waggons, etc.

BB Trains are more or less crap, either the bricks are of changing quality or the designs are mediocre or the trains are breaking apart when in normal use. Also, most of them have a very limited availability.

Seems to be a single bad batch, since in Europe there have been no reports about breaking pegs. -
Yes, both are new 3 in1 sets.

You should really brush up your knowledge about painted castles and houses. Only certain colors were expensive others were quite common. Just around Stuttgart we have literrally hundreds of city Walls, castles and timbered buildings that are proof to what I wrote. There is even a city wall tower with an timbered upper part that more resembles a fully-grown house and though the more colorful original paintjob no longer exists it has been verified by tests.
-
Not true for the continent. There were lots of colors and limited palette was the exception, not the rule.
-
BTW. Medieval Europe was very colorful and a far cry from the grey and mud you see in many movies. The castle would fit right in with the reconstructed painted castle walls all around here. Houses were also painted in lots of colors and painting mainly white and black/brown is a rather modern thing.

Actually Lego did cancel several sets when recent events were way too connected with elements of sets, which is quite understandable. Too many still don´t get, that the majority of Lego customers are children and that parents do react not good towards playsets that they consider to close to reality. (Since someone asked and I always can deliver facts (but I will post no more about it): https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/feb/26/capitol-attack-capitol-biden-police ) -

Well, with the storming of the Capitol and plans to blow it up I can understand why Lego deems that set not fitting. -
Them being smaller makes them fit in with the 16x16 grid and allows them to be used with normal plates for bases that were not possible in the past. They also can now be included with sets that would have needed way bigger boxes in the past. If you add all the extra stuff you get with the plates then it is not very expensive. 20€ RRP noone pays by now... the price already seems to level out at around 16€ then consider the green stuff and the lamps which are the equivalent of 2 eXtra packs and we are at around 9-8 € for a very modular street that is only a bit shorter than the previous two plates for around the same price. Them being that narrow also allows to place two of them side by side and create wider streets. In the end we get a road system that is extremly modular.

Lego is great for many people with psychological disorders, too. -

I only had the ones from the 80s and never really got the newer ones, so for me it will be a fresh start with the new roads. -

Not sure about the shopping street, but except for the family house I will get all the current street sets. The city house from Creator is visually much better than the family house. -
