  1. Happy to announce that I ended Christmas with less lego than I began. My daughter (almost 4) asked Santa the other day for "A lego pirate ship OF MY OWN, that I can build with daddy and then keep in my room to be mine!" So Barracuda Bay has been out of stock for weeks, so I reboxed mine and very selflessly wrapped it up for her. She shrieked "AH MY VERY OWN PIRATE SHIP!" Great success!
  2. Yeah, whatever flavor you do it, hope you all have a happy holiday season!
  3. Ha! I love the boots!
  4. Wonderful and fun ship! The chain across the bow is a very nice little touch.
  5. Really funny. I had a regular green 1 x 2 tile in the water and took it out because it made a pretty weak croc.
  6. Fine brandishing indeed. Great start! Sleeves are a sign of weakness. Fun character, looking forward to having him and you on the team!
  7. Again welcome @Jeff of Clubs! There are not specific starting locations, you sigfig can move with the story you craft for them pretty freely. New troops must start in the settlement they are drawn from and ships generally should start in a settlement within their faction. Some settlements have restrictions on who can build their but most do not, it should be listed on that settlements thread. All of Oleon's settlements are open to anyone in Oleon. Your sigfig does not need to be present to license something. The most rigid rules in the game are about the EGS and controlling money, so where something doesn't really impact that, things are pretty open to building your story.
  8. Croc Fishin, Medium Artisan as micro prize for Oktoberfest. Don't forget this island has an island bonus: Île Dionysus crocodile and leather working plantation, artisan, factory 30%
  9. In Nouveau Oleandia on Crocodile Island, a Medium Artisan shop has opened for catchin and cookin-up crocs. Island Bonus: Île Dionysus crocodile and leather working plantation, artisan, factory 30% When not busy sittin on the porch, the best way to pass the time on croc island is to hop in your canoe and go check your traps. This micro-medium build is a prize for Oktoberfest.
  10. Also @Bregir, @Ayrlego, @KotZ, @Capt Wolf, @Professor Thaum submitted for court approval.
  11. To the Representatives of the Empire of Eslandola, ( @Capt Wolf) His Royal Highness has seen it in his divine wisdom to empower me to extend his hand in cooperation in a common enterprise and has authorized me to communicate towards that purpose. In his Royal grace, the King has forgiven the many injustices and aggressions of Corrington and in a spirit of cooperation has pledged the might of his Army and Navy in mutual action with Corrington against the rising threat of the Lotii. To further expand this coalition, the King extends the hand of cooperation to the Empire of Eslandola. Though, our two peoples have been at odds with one another in the past, our shared history is one much more palatable than that which has been overcome with the Queen of Corrington. Certainly, if the Lotii threat can compel Oleon and Corrington to cooperation, than the practical and shrewd leaders of Eslandola can see the same wisdom. The merchants of Eslandola ply the same Brick Seas Commons as Oleon, Corrington, and the Lotii. The use of these commons requires, from time to time the investment in their preservation as free, safe, and open lanes upon which our mutual trade can flourish. Now is such a moment and while Eslandola has a large share of that trade, the contribution of your Empire in the protection of these commons would have a proportionately large benefit to your fleets. In the spirit of reconciliation of historic tensions, mutual cooperation in the present crisis, and improved relations and shared prosperity in the future, the King invites you to join the appointed representatives of Oleon and Corrington coordinating the details of our combined efforts at the Pine Island Monastery on the Island of Terraversa. In Service of His Majesty, Robert Perrault, II, Duke of Vitoria Bishop François Colonel Beauchamp
  12. The Royal Commercial Headquarters of the Le Bellan Shipping and Freight Trading Company.
  13. "Well they certainly picked a nice spot for it!" observed one of the potential investors as he scanned the decorative venetian style headquarters building. "Indeed!" validated the whiskered and bespectacled investor alongside the first. The two gentlemen were escorted past an annex building decorative enough to have been a royal mausoleum. As they came around to the front of the palace-like central building, they truly began to appreciate the scale of the headquarters, and the ambitious plans that would require such a royal setting to orchestrate. All around, a tri-color of blue, atop white, atop gold flew proudly alongside the King's own banner. Clearly, the Admiral intended for the LBSF banner to be recognizable to any who saw it. The sound of waves breaking in Eltina's South-East facing bay added to the scene of marble columns, pergolas, decorative paving stones, fountains, and manicured gardens that framed the headquarters building. Marble statues of national hero's crowned the front of the already ornate... royal even... commercial building. As they walked on they caught sight of the man Admiral Beauchamp had selected to oversee this colossal undertaking, Captain Kenneth Rogierres and his long serving quartermaster Mr. Blake approaching the main entrance ahead of them. Rogierres and Blake were met by another pair of would-be investors in the new enterprise, "Bonjour Captain Rogers!" called the first. "It is pronounced Rogierres, but Bonjour, and Kenny is just fine, please!" Captain Rogierres corrected with a disarming smile, his solid grey hair, long and unkempt in the rear, while close cropped and all business in the front, distracting the investors, while the horse and dolphins fountains flanking the walkway to the overlook bubbled on in the background. The serene setting was helped by an imposing, yet ornate, perimeter wall, blocking out the outside noise of the island's second city. Out on the overlook, under the pergola, on one of the benches he had custom ordered for just this spot, the one who had scoped such a bold and auspicious headquarters for an equally bold and auspicious business venture sat quietly with his long time companion and master shipwright, reviewing the draft charter documents he hoped to finalize for Kenny in the coming days. Things were coming together and soon the Crown's first private chartered trade company would launch their maiden trade voyage.
  14. Simple enough, what could go wrong?
  15. @Mesabi and @Bregir in all my little projects I try and blend some classic lego "toy" and playability with some realism. This has really plagued me with all my forts, as I've put a lot more study into what a realistic fort looks like and everything about them (drab, huge, closed off) doesn't lend to good fun lego builds. Ships, I've so much less of a background, and that is what I originally loved about the classic pirate sets, I feel like I am grounded much more in the playable lego feel than in lego as a medium for a realistic model. That said... I have learned an embarrassing amount about actual ship design trying to up my lego game... like having to go google "quarter gallery" and half the other terms you used above. What is funny to me, and why I do genuinely appreciate all the feedback, is that I have had lots of ship building moments where I know something isn't right but I can't tell you what. Ex. Looking at my sails, I was initially happy, but then also something was bothering me. You nailed it, the sails are way too high off the deck, which... to your point, I didn't even think of because I was using the classic mast pieces and that is as low as they go without some real creative solutions applied. (Googling shrouds and stays) I agree that custom shrouds look great where I have seen them. when unconstrained by cost, I have built them digitally. with lego string segments. I keep kicking around committing to some thick black threat and thin canvas to start doing my own rigging. I 100% agree that it kicks the build up a notch, but again, gray area between classic pirates and model ship building. brutally concur. the shapes are hard enough in isolation, the transitions from one aspect to another wrecks me. Great point, what I find hilarious about it is that if you were to have grabbed me a year ago (pre-BOBS) and told me (without pulling up a reference) to draw a ship, the whole thing would have come to a point shooting out basically parallel over the water in the bow. Literally staring at old ships to try and get this stuff closer to right in the last year has taught me that the lines are nearly vertical when you get to the bow. So while trying to unlearn what I'd falsely learned, you are spot on, the hull sections foster my false impression and lead you towards flat. To your real point, I think it is CL 6 but hadn't included it because I was still chewing on it. The two example CL 6's in about ships are bow, 4 mid sections, stern. This is bow and 5 mid-sections with significant overhang on the stern. One of those examples is an incredible ornate very tall ship, the other more close to this one. I think we've had a few examples of modified Barracuda Bays as CL 5s so I think between trying to make it ornate and being a from scratch design would nudge it into the CL 6 range if the 6 or so studs in beam length was holding it back. Thoughts?
  16. Hey thanks all, glad so many people appreciated a different approach to a mining build. I intentionally hid them, but the lights are provided by the 2x3 lego light bricks, if anybody wondered. @Spud The Viking, its the little things that make the stories fun. The entrance looking in with the tunnel lit up is my favorite shot. It came out way better than I thought it was going to.
  17. I think that is a perfectly reasonable rule, it just isn't currently the rule... (specified anywhere in the rules). @Bregir, if the court has now decided that they want that to be a rule, can you please edit the rules to include that restriction.
  18. @Bregir, @Mesabi, my point in continuing to talk at all (today we are only asking for 3 so whatever) about this here is that, "the rules" and "the updates to the rules" don't limit TCS. I did not bother to read the entirety of the COR faction page to see if there was a rule for how many TCS OL can have in there. I included the monopoly bit because it is the ONLY elaboration about TCs outside the EGS rules paragraph about TCs. My interpretation of everything in print is that there is no limit to TCs currently in the game but a member of the COR leadership has capped COR at 3.
  19. @Bregir, @Mesabi these are the rules out of the EGS thread... Trade Companies Participate in monopolies, joint stock ventures… and shape the future of the world. In the beginning, there are only two major Trade Companies, both Eslandian. Both carry their own membership requirements and rewards. Merchant companies will have greater income from some trade items - part of their monopoly. Unlike reality, a monopoly does not mean that other members of that faction cannot participate in that industry (unless your faction has more specific rules). The base rule for establishing a Trade Company requires the following MOCs: A Warehouse A Trade Headquarters A Trade Ship After these builds are complete, you can apply via your faction’s rules to your faction leaders. Here is the only clarification to this that I can find... Because I don't think it has ever been listed together in one place before, here are all the current Trade Company monopoly bonuses: Monopoly Name Trade Company Bonus Apple MAESTRO 50% Copper ETWC 75% Cotton or textile MCTC 50% Grape or wine RNTC 25% Iron MCTC 75% Oats or wheat ETWC 50% Silver RNTC 25% Opium FTA 25% Note. Going forward; to claim the bonus the property must be licensed in the name of the Trade Company (not individuals). If the TC wants to transfer funds via manual transactions to their individual members each month, they're free to do so. When licensing the property via webform, the builder must must answer the "Have you earned any other bonuses or modifiers for this property? Write the name of the bonus(es) and the amount / percentage here and why. " question. eg. "ETWC 75% bonus on copper " Any charted trade company may apply for a monopoly. Consider the following before applying. significant effort in both builds and back story is required to even be considered for a monopoly. An application is not a guarantee of success. Monopolies are very rare and the court will only grant them sparingly. So the first is the EGS rules the second is the rules updates thread. I am not sure what you are citing.
  20. The ongoing geological survey of Stefanique has led to a tunnel reaching well into the ground to access a rich iron vein. The find, of course, led to the immediate purchase of the claim by the Crown of Oleon to grant the crown access to their own strategic resources.
  21. "What on earth does 'em-in-nent-do-main' mean anyway?" asked George, the newest employee of the Government of Oleon "It means that because the Crown wants all this iron ore for military manufacturing, they can take the mine and now we work for the Crown." answered John, the second newest employee of the Government of Oleon. "So as soon as this prospecting tunnel hit iron ore, we suddenly became state employees?!" -Ringo, 3rd newest "Well, the mine suddenly became state property... With the big fort here in Lavalette, they probably want the iron for cannons and alike." -added Paul (the 4th newest member). "Quit flappin your gums like some kinda band and get back to work before the royal geologists come by for their inspection!" barked the manager. Licensed Iron Mine in Lavalette to the faction directly.
  22. With the blessings of the King of Oleon, Admiral Beauchamp has set off to establish a private trading company to manage his growing mercantile empire. "Le Bellan Shipping and Freight" or "LBSF" he base rule for establishing a Trade Company requires the following MOCs: A Warehouse A Trade Headquarters A Trade Ship @AyrlegoCan I get LBSF established as an Oleon faction Trading Company entity? I would like to have the two properties above transferred to its control and then I'll license my new ship there and transfer in some of them DBs.
  23. LBSF Demeter: CL V Trade Ship Goddess of grain, agriculture, harvest, growth, and nourishment. Launched today, the latest from the Beauchamp Shipyard, the Demeter is the first ship of the new LBSF merchant fleet. A large well armed merchant, The ship is a balance of strength and capacity, a good utility ship for any occasion. A pair of bow chasers... And some ornate decor... Means you wouldn't want to catch a broadside... But can also appreciate the craftsmanship. All in all, maybe not the best in any 1 category.... But, Captain Lamont, will not be short of work for him and Demeter's new crew.
