[MOC] The Sword in the Stone (Summer Joust entry)
Sarophas replied to Sarophas's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Aww man, I should have used that quote.. well better luck next time I guess Thank you very much! Thanks man, much appreciated! The blade does seem kind of dull in comparison, but I didn't want it to be a focal point either.. ah the second guessing never ends -
Thanks man! Yeah the building is definitely drawing heavily on German examples I have seen. Also some Danish one, but sadly they are much rarer.

Thanks a lot man! Yeah on second thought they are pretty similar all around europe.. and my god do you have some spectacular examples in Belgium! It's just a 32064 Technic, Brick 1 x 2 with Axle HoleLeg. The t-bar-thingy just hides the vertical slit I think the part you described is a 2546 Bird, Parrot with Small Beak? Correct me if it wasn't the right brick

I wish I could take credit for your amazing interpretation. Honestly he is just supposed to be a hungover guy waking up in a haystack. I guess I owe you an easter egg relating to the story in a future build Thank you very much, I wish I had more of the printed board tiles, they do add a lot of character to wooden stuctures Thank you very much! That was the intended micro story, but I wish I had made the reference that Arne mentioned Thank you though, glad you like it

Wow, thank you very much That's really all I could have wanted to achieve, glad you like it.. more will follow

I love mixing the two hobbies and frankly the miniature/terrain side is way more active on youtube
-
Very nice and creative! Now to take it to the next level and build Deathclaw
-
Thanks man! I was really inspired by this video from Real Terrain Hobbies, where he just nails the beautiful wacky hoardings. Thanks man! It was the main focus point/motivation for the build, glad it shows Thanks a lot! I tried to keep it as simple as possible, relying on a lot of 1000-ish 1x2 Masonry profile bricks I bought a while ago Yeah the goats don't flex themselves.. or do they

My latest creation, hope you'll like it As Radoslaw entered the city gates, it felt like stepping through a portal to a different dimension. The relative peace was broken by the loud bustling of the city streets. The cries of merchants peddling their goods and the sounds of craftsmen hammering about, reverberated off the tall walls. Smells of smoke, horses and spices penetrated his nostrils. Radoslaw could see guards positioned along the battlements, scanning the market square for any suspicious activity. Dromos was noticeably anxious, snorting and pulling the reins, Radoslaw had to work hard to calm down his horse but was sure that it had alarmed the guards. The fast-paced clanking of metal cut through the sea of noise, as a figure appeared from the crowd. A large man covered in heavy plate armour marched menacingly towards them, firmly grasping a hefty axe in his left gauntlet. Radoslaw knew that if he got arrested, someone would surely recognize him. He closed his eyes, gathered himself and reached under for his dagger..

Great ambience! The ruins feel very real, love the pillars (especially the sunken ones). The colorscheme is great and really gives it a murky, damp swamp look. Simply a great build, love it!

Latest impact of other themes on historic themes

Rumored -
I'd say it looks like The Hobbit and not Lord of the Rings. It's complicated to boil it down to a simple answer, but it just looks fake to me. Lord of the Rings just felt and looked real, whereas The Hobbit and Rings of Power rely way to much on CG for absolutely everything. Maybe I'm just getting to old or maybe I just love the trilogy to much, but it just doesn't work for me. But hey this is ultimately about the LEGO sets which we might get and not about the movies/series. Sorry if I'm being overly negative. (I missed the original Lotr lego sets, which haunts me to this very day).

Thank you! I think I had to make a choice between Warhammer and LEGO because there was no way I could finance both hobbies on the level that I wanted to as an adult. I also agree on reusability, although you can in theory reuse and repaint Warhammer, there is just no comparison to LEGO.
-
Thanks a lot! I get what you are saying and although I do believe that really rich and vibrant colours work in certain builds, this was trying to capture a very different style. Namely the bleak, "Grimdark" Warhammer feel - imposing and menacing, which in my mind is synonymous with gothic architecture. Glad you like it!
-
Thanks a lot! This is from Warhammer Fantasy Battles. The Empire of man (which this faction is a part of) is basically the Holy Roman Empire on steroids, the source material and art is so mind-blowing that I've always wanted to do something with it.

My latest creation, The Great Temple of Ulric. It's not 100% accurate to the description, but I still think it turned out alright. also included Ar-Ulric Emil Valgeir. Hope you like it Ulric's holiest site is the legendary Fauschlag, known also as the Ulricsberg. In ancient days, the greatest of the gods were Ulric and Taal; the mightiest and most widely worshipped. Yet Ulric was troubled, for it seemed that his elder brother came before him in all things. To Taal he voiced this concern, and the Lord of the Forests asked his brother what would put his mind at ease. Ulric replied that he desired a domain that he could say that belonged to him and him alone. Taal considered this request and decided to grant his younger brother's request. He gifted Ulric with a great mountain surrounded by harsh forests filled with fierce beasts. Pleased with this, Ulric thanked his elder brother and smote the mountaintop flat with his mighty fist. Here, he declared, would his chosen people, the Teutogens, abide and build a mighty fortress and temple, where his fires would burn eternally and men would journey far and wide to pay him tribute. Thus was born the Fauschlag, which in the tongue of the Teutogens, means 'Fist-Strike.' warhammerfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Cult_of_Ulric

Thank you! I couldn't agree more. I'm not going to lie, your builds have really been one of the greatest inspirations, so thank you! Thanks! That's one of the things I love about Warhammer, the fact that you can just keep adding details, and it just looks right
