  1. I'm rather surprised this update didn't get any comments. The rigging is looking great Captain Genero. I do agree that the upper shrouds are to vertical but I think that's easily changed by changing the crosstrees. I imagine at this points its been altered already. Have you made any progress on this?
  2. Thanks Kolonialbeamter! The latices did indeed have to be shaved a small amount on the sides. You'll likely see one or two more pictures before the end. I'm glad you appreciate all the effort and research that has gone into the project Plaid Beard. I have to thank many of the gentlemen before me for the techniques though I think I refined them a bit. You will hear from me quite before the end of June. I always look at the timelines I put forward and laugh in the end but I'm hoping to have this presentable with a diorama around it within the next month and a half. Please feel free. You're quite right indeed. Very much time to finish the ship. I've been ushered along recently with a new build space and a full sort on my bricks. I've got 30 blocks already strung as well so I don't plan on waiting to start on her rigging.
  3. Matterhorn's hull is now very close to complete. She has gotten new side galleries, stern, fighting tops, and channels. I reworked the bow and was pleased to find this piece in my inventory. Its hugeness really tied the bricks together making the prow rock solid. I've still got to add all the riding bits and pin rails, Captain Cabin's interior, stern decoration, and a small amount of tiling to get his hull completed. I plan at current to rig her up to the fighting tops and stop there. I'm sure eventually she will get a full compliment of sail but at the moment I would like to get her presented and move on to a different project.
  4. I cute little build Captain Braunsfeld. I certainly see the inspiration in there. I think that its to abrupt of a transition at the bow and stern. I'm a big fan of all the dark brown that has come out recently like those 1x2 slopes. And the flurry of posts in the forum since the new wave of Pirates has been coming out
  5. What a magnificent fortress! It is so impressive to see a large build like this filled with so many details. You even have the bird in the cage. The dark orange cliffs contrast the bright white fortress and make it stand out. Most exciting build!
  6. An excellent built Gary! I love to get a good dose of History with a good MoC. I'm currently reading my first book on Napoleon though I've not gotten to this event. Great work sir.
  7. A splendid vessel Simon. The color scheme is original and looks quite nice. Knowing your from the guilds made me expect it to be a Kalphin build at first. I think you put a bit too much vertical curve on her for the length which is exaggerated by the gunwales being an even height across the length. It makes the hull taller in the middle. I like the rigging with the minimal strings up top reminding me of some of the earlier system pirate ships. Those pirates sure have brought along the wenches. A fun-filled voyage must be ahead!
  8. That is quite a sizable part to fit into a ship. What area of the ship were you thinking, side galleries?
  9. Hopefully Mr. Phes is working with the date of the March 1st release of the new Pirates line to get the site restored. I would love to see some blogs again.
  10. You most certainly made a huge amount of progress on this build Wellesley. I think she is looking nice all over from her stern to her new sails. I look forward to seeing the final product.
  11. I'm excited to see progress on this. She's looking good to my eye my friend. Keep it going.
  12. Welcome to the Pirates Forum Sir Valiant! I'm glad you've finally decided to join and am excited to see your posts here as well. I'm most certainly a fan of your build style and hope to see pirate era land MoCs eclipse over caste era now that your here.
  13. I'm always a fan of a good fig barf Captain Braunsfeld. It's cool to see one on pirates forum as normally they don't bwnture too far from the scifi forum. I like most the top left which you had used as a sigfig. I'm not sure but I don't think Captain Banana is truly a pirate figure.
  14. What a beautiful design Kurigan. I very much love the effect this technique offers and I'm sure I'll be trying something similar soon. One feature that stands out to me is the bow being one stud wide. I quite like how you accomplished it. I think your a bit worse then me with your multiple projects my friend. We will never get the big ones done at this rate.
  15. I'm certainly going to be keeping an amount of white on her to make sure her lines and details stay visible. This is one of the main reasons I stepped away from all white. The stern galleries however will be purely white. I think the one line from bow to stern will tie the headrails and stern together. Thanks Kurigan. On my reference material there are no ports on the front six guns and I will be keeping to this. This may be because my reference book is based on Pandora when she was on voyage to the Pacific in 1790 during which a wall had been constructed on the gun deck at the start of the quarterdeck. The ports may have been added at this time to make that area enclosed as the officers quarters were moved here. I've seen models of this ship with and without those front ports but I like them lacking for the character of the ship.
  16. What a handsome small boat this is Kurigan. I really like the effect that this technique gives. Your rigging is as usual quite superb. What did you use to make the hoops around the rear mast. Could you lower that sail if you so wished? I have no qualms with the use of the rubberbands and little with the dowels at the pinrails, but the flagpole bugs me. I do wish for this bit you would use a LEGO piece. I do notice how rigid your sprit is and imagine you've used dowels in your masts. I think I need to do this in the future. I'm rather tired of the flex tubes in my masts allowing flex. I'm interested in the scale your use for these small boats. On your larger boats you seem to go for a scale closer to minifig but with these small ones they seem smaller them minifig illusion. Do you think this one and the previous two fit well into minifig illusion scale or should they be slightly larger. I don't know much about small boats of this era. I ask because I would love to add something like this to my fleet but I like to keep all my ships scaled the same.
  17. I've made a small amount of progress on Matterhorn over the past few months. With the holidays over I expect to have time to make some real headway on this project. The Matterhorn has gotten one more color change with a focus on black. The stern will be redone next with a change to the large windows and better angling on the side galleries. You will also notice in this picture the rope railing at the bow. This picture shows the netting at the waste. Netting continues back through to stern.
  18. Its such a beautiful and impressive ship Dunkleosteus. I've not quite figured out how your getting that curve. Is each 8 brick section hinged from the others? I would love to see the .LXF for this model. I like that you included sweeps on this ship. I wanted to add sweep ports on Matterhorn but it would have made spacing difficult. It impressive how much detail you've put in it. I've not seen gunports decorated in that fashion before and I like the stern windows very much. I'm curious how strong the build would be in the brick. Any thoughts on this?
  19. I've two LDD files from some of my ships. I build Pinnacle at first exactly like the LDD file and outside of rigging it was a rather quick build. The Matterhornfile I never build because I expanded it off prefabs in an LDD file I no longer have. Though I modified both ships heavily from the LDD to bricks, these files may be good insight into some of the best techniques from a large number of the ship builders in this forum.
  20. An adorable fortress Captain Braunsfeld! I love the classic colors and the red bricks in the white plaster wall. The rock cave seems to be a prime location for a lost monkey shrine. I can't wait to open my build table for a few land MoCs and a fortress is a must. This is an excellent inspiration.
  21. What an outstanding ship you built! I love in from stern to stem. The blue is quite striking as is the cleanness of your rigging. The fact that she lacks gunports really sets her apart from most. Brick on!
  22. She is very impressive Wellesley! I like the detail you've included in the interior and on the deck. It's cool to see you have the chains and blocks on your rigging too! I was skeptical at first of the way that your tumpblehome was made, but in the picture down her broadside it looks quite good. I am curious if the bow will get an update as I think after that you will have quite the extraordinary vessel.
  23. What a beautiful frigate you've build Captain Braunsfeld. I particularly like how wide the yellow stripe is and the blue accent on the cathead. The different brick build guns are cool to see. I think the piece you used for the barrel on the main battery of cannons is perfect. I would like to see if that barrel could be placed on the other carriage design. I'm a fan of this more realistic style of ship but I surely miss the monkey.
  24. In the last picture I can see some of the interior on the lower deck and its quite exciting. I look forward to seeing the rest of it.
  25. Thanks Frank! I took a breakdown photo of the wheel. Not only can the One Ring hide you from dragons but it reverses studs too. I always appreciate your comments Kurigan. I'm adding black netting to the bulwarks and across the waste which I think will break up the white. This also means I'm removing the white fencing across the waste. I was excited with how the netting on Pinnacle's Bowsprit and am adding that style net wherever netting was used. The galleries may have to change. I built it this way to keep the solid connection but it does lack accuracy. With the stern's structure as it is I can alter it easily and its a detail I plan to leave until last. Not being able to finish Matterhorn's stern on the first build was a main factor in her reconstruction.
