LEGO Star Wars 2020 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
TeddytheSpoon replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I saw someone on Instagram suggest the contents were related to the box art. BB-8 implies something sequel related and the "important battles" line made me think of Exegol, but the presence of a desert planet makes me wonder if it'll be something Jakku related ("Why does everyone want to go back to Jakku?!"). It would be cool to have a Jakku done in the same style as the GWP dioramas with a downed Star Destroyer and that scavenger town from TFA. I am curious to see what's going to be in it. I seem to remember the last one being a bit of a damp squib. -

It's possible it's Hoth Han with his brown parka. It would match up with the Tauntaun set after all. -

It might not be far off from the UCS one. The Nebulon B is about twice as long as the Corellian Corvette, so based on the images it might be about right, or a little undersized if anything. -
I was wondering about the X-wings actually, initially I thought if they were going to make an X-wing it would be an OT one since they would (probably) sell better. That said, if it were Poe's black and orange one I think that would do pretty well; even if it got destroyed in TLJ I feel like that's the one that everyone associates with Poe and the sequels. And it would look awesome. So you could be right.

Technically the UCS Falcon is from the sequels as you can swap out the sensor dish. I agree that it would probably be Kylo Ren-related. Since his shuttle lasted more than one movie I would say that's the most likely, but his TIEs would also look great. The problem is the sequels don't really have any unique ship designs that are also iconic enough to be UCS sets. There's plenty I'd like to see - Rey's speeder, the Resistance bomber, the Sith ship they find on Pasaana (can't remember the former pilot's name...), even the Quadjumper. I can't see those being popular enough with the masses to warrant LEGO making a UCS set.

Oh boy, another region-locked SDCC exclusive. Ah well. At least it looks like it'll be easy to replicate from my collection, and it's nice to see the ship finally represented in the LEGO lineup. I love the tiny Falcon though. Is that the smallest version of that ship we've ever had from LEGO? -

So there are some supposed silhouettes of the new X-wing, TIE and Lambda doing the rounds on Instagram. Not loads of detail obviously but they look decent, salt being firmly pinched of course. The X-wing looks closer to the 2012 version with a noticeably different nose which is nice. Difficult to tell much on the Lambda but it looks a bit like a halfway house between 2015 and 2001 models. -

It'll be easier to tell with it in hand but I don't think it'll look too out of place next to the Rebels TIE Advanced. The wings seem to be the only massive difference size-wise compared to the older 2001 and 2005 models. I do hope this means more variants of TIE, it seems the designers actually acted on what they said about the TIE bomber not being viable at their current scale and price point. At this scale I guess a bomber would be around $60 rather than the $120 we were guessing (much more reasonable!), and an interceptor would be around $40-$50. Hell you could even have a defender at around $60-$70. -

I think they actually look really good considering the scale-down. The Lambda does look on the small side but I guess that can't be helped - if the interior is the same space-wise as the 2001 version it'll work just fine as a playset. Looking forward to seeing how the X-wing will look now. EDIT: according to Landino the Lambda is fake. TIE is apparently legit though, which is nice. -
Lego should do Star Wars collectible mini figures
TeddytheSpoon replied to Jimalaya's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Technically LEGO doesn't sell those, so won't make any money off them directly. I imagine that's how they get around that particular conundrum since Hasbro wanted to stop LEGO taking money out of their pocket.- 49 replies

Wow! I wouldn't expect this ship to translate too well to LEGO given its bizarre shape, but you've nailed it. It has been a while since I watched this arc of TCW but it does look on the large side (not that that's a criticism at all, merely an observation!). What scale roughly is this?

Unpopular Opinions related to Lego Star Wars
TeddytheSpoon replied to TheAbsoluteSt81's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The problem with AFOL as a catch-all term is that it assumes all AFOLs have the same requirements from their LEGO, which we can see from this thread alone is not necessarily true. AFOLs in that 20% (on which incidentally I agree with you, I think that might be a rather optimistic number for which we haven't seen the small print) will include minifigure collectors and customisers, army builders, MOCers, statue collectors, and the casual adult who isn't really an AFOL, who I think the 18+ line is aimed at. It would be interesting to do a census of the entire global AFOL population and see the exact breakdown of that 20%. I for one don't care for super-detailed minifigures as they're meant to be caricatures of their subject matter, which is why I tend to shy away from custom minifigures and don't care for arm printing and dual molding - but I have no idea if I'm in the majority, if there is one.- 127 replies

I mean, these are correct... From a certain point of view. The Tauntaun of course is based on ESB, and the Lambda could be perceived as Vader's ship. I would like it to be an imperial crew rather than the Tyderium though. -

I think we had a similar thing in the UK - a few days of (limited) sales, mostly at 20% off. The selection of sets on sale was not great though. -

There seems to be some confusion over these. My understanding was that the buildable statue was of the Probe Droid, which would make more sense than having it in the helmet collection. Stonewars pointed out on Instagram that TLG's press releases for the paper packaging initiative have a Royal Guard bust in the background (which incidentally @ArrowBrickscalled in the Helmets thread ). Nothing confirmed obviously, but it does seem the right sort of size for the helmet collection. -

Don't worry, I was hoping to be able to pick up the 20th Anniversary Obi-Wan figure, but apparently that offer isn't available in Europe/the UK. Any other UK peeps seen that in stores at all? -

But reading too much into figs is exactly what we're good at! I'm aware that placeholder figs are a thing, but is there any precedent for the number of figures in a set being changed between preliminary artwork/set details and release? (More out of curiosity than anything.) -
LEGO Star Wars Helmets 2021 - Rumors and Discussion!
TeddytheSpoon replied to JintaiZ's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I'm seeing a lot of sources saying two different things... It would make sense for it to be a buildable droid. Argh the confusion! I guess it's safe to assume the third helmet would be either imperial or a bounty hunter then? A royal guard would be very cool, personally I'd like to see a shoretrooper. -

I was wondering about the potential for Gideon and Kuill but that would still mean a new protocol droid as I don't remember any from the Mandalorian. Is it possible it could be a Squadrons tie-in? -
Following on from a point I made in the helmet discussion thread - we will have had six Imperial helmets by the time the next set come out. So here's a few ways TLG could mix it up... Prequel good guys wave: 212th Airborne trooper helmet, Naboo pilot's helmet, P1 Captain Rex. Rex could be replaced with a one of the Bad Batch member's helmets (ideally Tech's as I think his is the most interesting design). Prequel bad guys wave: Mauldalorian helmet, General Grievous, pilot battle droid head. Since TLG are apparently doing a probe droid - no reason you couldn't have a droid head, right? OT good guys wave: Endor trooper helmet, Boushh helmet (from Leia's disguise), Biggs Darklighter helmet. Boushh could be replaced with the helmet Lando wears as a disguise on Jabba's skiff. Biggs' helmet could be pretty much anyone's - Wedge, Luke, Dutch Vander, Anton Merrick... There's probably enough recognisable ones for two rebel pilot waves. Sequel wave: Captain Phasma, Kylo Ren, First Order Snowtrooper. I'd have Phasma if it was possible to have it done in pearl silver, or whatever that colour is called; otherwise I'd replace it with Poe's Black Leader helmet.

LEGO Star Wars Helmets 2021 - Rumors and Discussion!
TeddytheSpoon replied to JintaiZ's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I think they all sound really interesting. I haven't picked up any of the last round of helmets yet but I fully intend to at some point. Here's my thoughts for these ones: Darth Vader - could have some interesting techniques. Will be interesting to see how different it is to the previous bust, as the helmets are larger and don't tend to include the shoulders. Probably will be lower on the buying priority list. Scout Trooper - I love anything to do with these guys. They might be my favourite trooper design in all of Star Wars, and again I'm really looking forward to seeing how they build this one. And it's (supposedly) the cheapest one! The only worry I have is how well the design will translate to LEGO. Probe Droid - when I saw this I originally thought it was the big buildable figure set rather than one of the helmet collection sets, which led me to believe it would be a Yoda-sized model which would have been awesome. I'm still intrigued by it all the same... But the same price as Vader, with fewer pieces than the cheapest set? Sounds like whoever priced this was the same person that priced the Soulless One. Might have to wait for a discount on this one. Overall, very eager to see how they end up looking. Hopefully the wave after this will have some good guys or prequel helmets... After six Imperial helmets (I know Boba isn't technically Imperial but he's an OT baddie) we dearly need them. -

Aha, I must've seen it from a secondary source then. A TIE pilot with a non-descript imperial protocol droid (I think there was a black one with one of the Star Destroyer or Death Star sets?) would seem fairly innocuous to me if the third figure were a stormie or officer, but the presence of that short figure is thought-provoking to say the least. As you say an ugnaught is really the only short minifigure to be associated with the Empire, let alone with a TIE fighter. -

Supposedly the three figures the TIE comes with are an imperial pilot, protocol droid, and "a figure with short legs" (healthy dosage of salt required as this account has been wrong before). Sounds interesting, though I have no idea who the short-legged one could be. The only thing I can think is that a TIE pops up in the Mandalorian and we get Kuill in there, but that seems like a stretch. -

From what Landino and one or two others have said, it seems that the reduction will be more in detail and not size (although the TIE will have slightly smaller wings apparently). If that means the X-wing is somewhere between the 2012 and 2006 models I'm all for it. LEGO models are meant to be representations of their subject matter turned into a toy, not detailed scale models. I agree on your conundrum triangle as well - pick two of size, detail and price to have in a set, and then complain about the last one.
